Item type:Publication, Power loss analysis in distribution system comprising photovoltaic energy source(2017-01-30) ;Chiradeja, P.Pothisarn, C.The impact of power loss when renewable energy source is installed in distribution system is investigated. The distribution system is transferred from 115 kV, and 100 MVA into level of laboratory voltage 400 V, 150 VA distribution system converted by per-unit to 400 V, 150 VA using per-unit technique while the renewable source is simulated by using the simulator DC power (or photovoltaic simulator) with micro inverter. To study the characteristics and variation of power loss in distribution model, the size of load, and the location of renewable source are performed. The obtained result from experimental setup has been analyzed in terms of power loss. It can be seen that the distribution system can reduce the power loss when the renewable source is suitably interconnected in the distribution system. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Energy savings analysis and harmonics reduction for the electronic ballast of T5 fluorescent lamp in a building's lighting system(2015-06-15) ;Chiradeja, P. ;Ngaopitakkul, A.Jettanasen, C.Lighting is one of the major energy end uses, which accounts for approximately 20-30% of electricity consumption in buildings. In fact, the fluorescent lamp is the most employed lamp in a lighting system for both inside and outside the building. The ballast is one of the major components of fluorescent lamps; it exists commercially as an electromagnetic ballast, a low loss ballast and an electronic ballast. To reduce energy consumption in a lighting system, the electronic ballast has already been introduced for profit in terms of its peak demand reduction and energy conservation in the building. However, when the electronic ballast functions, harmonics will be generated. Hence, this paper investigates energy savings and the generation of harmonics when using a fluorescent T5 lamp with electronic ballast in a building. The efficiency indices in terms of illumination, energy savings, and harmonics are also evaluated and compared with the fluorescent T8 lamp operating with a low watt loss electromagnetic ballast, which is also widely used. The obtained results are useful for the design and decision to install a fluorescent T5 lamp with electronic ballast in building lighting system to conserve energy and/or reduce energy consumption for the future of the country. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The impacts of electrical power losses due to distributed generation integration to distribution system(2013-12-01) ;Chiradeja, P.Ngaopitakkul, A.The impacts of distributed generation (DG) in 22 kV distribution system of Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) that is a part of Thailand's distribution system are considered in terms of active power line losses. The digital simulation and electrical network calculation program (DIgSILENT) is carried out to analyze power line losses of the distribution system. In order to evaluate the impact of DG for power line losses, the power line losses in case of without DG and with DG including the capacity and location of DG are compared. The results show that when DG is installed close to the substation, the active power line losses are reduced. However, if DG capacity becomes larger and the distance between DG and load is longer, the power line losses tend to be increased. © 2013 IEEE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Prediction of fault location in overhead transmission line and underground distribution cable using probabilistic neural network(2013-01-01) ;Chiradeja, P.Ngaopitakkul, A.This paper proposes an algorithm based on a combination of discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and probabilistic neural network (PNN) for locating fault on transmission and distribution system. Simulations and the training process for the PNN are performed using Electromagnetic Transients Program (EMTP) and MATLAB. The mother wavelet daubechies4 (db4) is employed to decompose high frequency component from fault signals. The first peak time in first scale of each bus, that can detect fault, is used as input pattern for the training pattern. Various cases studies based on Thailand electricity transmission and distribution systems have been investigated so that the algorithm can be implemented. The results show that the proposed algorithm is capable of performing the fault location with satisfactory accuracy. © 2013 Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l. - All rights reserved. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Discrete wavelet transform and back-propagation neural networks algorithm for fault classification in underground cable(2011-07-26) ;Kaitwanidvilai, S. ;Pothisarn, C. ;Jettanasen, C. ;Chiradeja, P.Ngaopitakkul, A.This paper proposes a new technique using discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and back-propagation neural network (BPNN) for fault classifications on underground cable. Simulations and the training process for the back-propagation neural network are performed using ATP/EMTP and MATLAB. The mother wavelet daubechies4 (db4) is employed to decompose high frequency component from these signals. Positive sequence current signals are used in fault detection decision algorithm. The variations of first scale high frequency component that detect fault are used as an input for the training pattern. Various cases studies based on Thailand electricity distribution underground systems have been investigated so that the algorithm can be implemented. The results are shown that an average accuracy values obtained from BPNN can indicate the fault classification with satisfactory accuracy, and will be very useful in the development of a power system protection scheme. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Identification of the fault location for three-terminal transmission lines using discrete wavelet transforms(2009-12-16) ;Chiradeja, P.Pothisarn, C.This paper proposes a technique to detect fault locations in a three-bus transmission system using discrete wavelet transform (DWT). The comparison among the first peak time in first scale of each terminal (buses) that can detect fault is performed and the two fastest first peak time obtained from comparison are used as an input data for traveling wave equation later. A comparison of results obtained from three different types of mother wavelet is discussed in order to identify the fault locations with an application of traveling wave theory. It is shown that the db4 mother wavelet produces better results than those from 'sym4' and 'coif4', with a mean error of less than 400 m.
