Item type:Publication, Comparative Study on Performance of SOFC-GT with/without Anode Exhaust Gas Recirculation(2023-01-01) ;Pholboorn, Suthin ;Saebea, DangPatcharavorachot, YaneepornThe comparative study on the electrical performance of solid oxide fuel cell combined with gas turbine with/without anode exhaust gas recirculation (SOFC-GTR/SOFC-GT-NR) was presented in this work. Performance analysis was performed through Aspen Plus simulator software. The SOFC system was included the pre-reforming process of methane. The simulation results revealed that the SOFC-GT-R has the maximum efficiency of 81.97% at pre-reforming percentage of 10% and fuel utilization of 0.90 while the highest performance of SOFC-GT-NR is 77.60% at pre-reforming percentage of 70% and fuel utilization of 0.90. From the comparative study, it was found that the SOFC-GT-R has higher efficiency by using lower pre-reforming percentage compared with SOFC-GT-NR. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, A proper shape of the trailing edge modification to solve a housing damage problem in a gas turbine power plant(2021-04-01) ;Jansaengsuk, Thodsaphon ;Kaewbumrung, Mongkol ;Busayaporn, WutthikraiThongsri, JatupornTo solve the housing damage problem of a fractured compressor blade (CB) caused by an impact on the inner casing of a gas turbine in the seventh stage (from 15 stages), modifications of the trailing edge (TE) of the CB have been proposed, namely 6.5 mm curved cutting and a combination of 4 mm straight cutting with 6.5 mm curved cutting. The simulation results of the modifications in both aerodynamics variables C<inf>l</inf> and C<inf>d</inf> and the pressure ratio, including structural dynamics such as a normalized power spectrum, frequency, total deformation, equivalent stress, and the safety factor, found that 6.5 mm curved cutting could deliver the aerodynamics and structural dynamics similar to the original CB. This result also overcomes the previous work that proposed 5.0 mm straight cutting. This work also indicates that the operation of a CB gives uneven pressure and temperature, which get higher in the TE area. The slightly modified CB can present the difference in the properties of both the aerodynamics and the structural dynamics. Therefore, any modifications of the TE should be investigated for both properties simultaneously. Finally, the results from this work can be very useful information for the modification of the CB in the housing damage problem of the other rotating types of machinery in a gas turbine power plant. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Optimization Based Dynamics Setpoint Control to Improve Cycle Power Efficiency of The Lm6000pf+ Aero Gas Turbine(2021-01-01) ;Kongratana, Viriya ;Tawangkan, WissanudechWongvanich, NapasoolThe efficiency of the Aero Gas Turbine in a combine cycle power plant (CCPP) is maximum under the conditions that the combustion chamber temperature is highest, the compressor is working at full capacity and all bleed valves are closed. The Inlet Air Heating System is therefore used to improve the efficiency of the machines in low power generation conditions. To ensure stability in response to air temperature and machine capacity changes, this work thus proposes an optimization-based automation system designed to stabilize the CCPP. Results show that under changing conditions, the overall efficiency of the air compressors in low load conditions increases by 3%, shortening the system start time of 15 minutes and improving the efficiency of the combined cycle power plant by an average of 100 BTU / kw.hr. The average fuel cost is reduced by approximately 600,000 baht per month. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Performance assessment of a hybrid solid oxide and molten carbonate fuel cell system with compressed air energy storage under different power demands(2020-01-01) ;Jienkulsawad, Prathak ;Saebea, Dang ;Patcharavorachot, YaneepornArpornwichanop, AmornchaiAs electricity demand can vary considerably and unpredictably, it is necessary to integrate energy storage with power generation systems. This study investigates a solid oxide and molten carbonate fuel cell system integrated with a gas turbine (GT) for power generation. The advanced adiabatic compressed air energy storage (AA-CAES) system is designed to enhance the system flexibility. Simulations of the proposed power system are performed to demonstrate the amount of power that can supply to the loads during normal and peak modes of operation under steady-state conditions. The pressure ratios of the GT and AA-CAES and the additional air feed are used to design the system and analyze the system performance. The results show that a small additional air feed to the GT is certainly required for the hybrid system. The GT pressure ratio of 2 provides a maximum benefit. The AA-CAES pressure ratio of 5 is recommended to spare some air in the storage and minimize storage volume. Moreover, implementation of the GT and AA-CAES into the integrated fuel cell system allows the system to cope with the variations in power demand. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Investigation of the trailing edge modification effect on compressor blade aerodynamics using SST k-ω turbulence model(2019-04-01) ;Kaewbumrung, Mongkol ;Tangsopa, WorapolThongsri, JatupornA gas turbine power plant in Thailand had the problem of compressor blade fracture in Stages 6-8, which was caused by housing damage. This gas turbine has a total of 15 stages. The housing damage reduced the lifetime of blades to an unacceptable level. This article shall report the solution and outcomes. Three-dimensional (3D) compressor blade models in the problematic stages were prepared by a 3D scanning machine to find a solution based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and then were completed for simulation by adding Stages 5 and 9 to become a multi-stage axial model. The latter models were modified by trimming the trailing edge by 1-, 5-, and 10-mm. Using ANSYS CFX R19.2 software, the CFD results of the trailing edge modification effect on flow using the shear stress transport (SST) k-ω turbulence model revealed aerodynamics inside the problematic stages both before and after blade modifications. Modifying the blade by 5 mm was suitable, because it had lesser effects on aerodynamic parameters: pressure ratio, drag, and lift coefficients, when compared to the modification of 10 mm. The larger the modification, the greater the effect on aerodynamics. The effects on aerodynamics were intensified when they were modified by 10 mm. The validation of base line blades was conducted for the overall compressor parameters that were compared with the measurable data. These results were accepted and gave positive feedbacks from engineers who practically applied our reports in a real maintenance period of gas turbine. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Effect of anode-cathode exhaust gas recirculation on energy recuperation in a solid oxide fuel cell-gas turbine hybrid power system(2016-01-01) ;Saebea, Dang ;Authayanun, Suthida ;Patcharavorachot, YaneepornArpornwichanop, AmornchaiA solid oxide fuel cell-gas turbine (SOFC-GT) hybrid system supplying liquid fuel as ethanol exhibits promise as an auxiliary power unit. In this study, the recirculation of anode and cathode exhaust gas in the SOFC-GT system is proposed to improve the efficiency of heat management in the SOFC-GT hybrid system. The key operating parameters, such as fuel utilization factor and the cell and GT temperatures, are analyzed in terms of the performance of the SOFC-GT hybrid systems. The simulation results show that the recirculation of anode and cathode exhaust gas has a direct impact on the turbine performance. To maintain the inlet temperature of the small turbine in the range of 873-1223 K, the amount of fuel and air added to the combustor to control the turbine inlet temperature on the system performance is also investigated. A SOFC-GT hybrid system with both anode and cathode exhaust gas recirculation achieves the highest system and thermal efficiency. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Analysis of a pressurized solid oxide fuel cell-gas turbine hybrid power system with cathode gas recirculation(2013-04-15) ;Saebea, Dang ;Patcharavorachot, Yaneeporn ;Assabumrungrat, SuttichaiArpornwichanop, AmornchaiA pressurized solid oxide fuel cell-gas turbine hybrid system (SOFC-GT system) has been received much attention for a distributed power generation due to its high efficiency. When considering an energy management of the system, it is found that a heat input is highly required to preheat air before being fed to the SOFC stack. The recirculation of a high-temperature cathode exhaust gas is probably an interesting option to reduce the requirement of an external heat for the SOFC-GT system. This study aims to analyze the pressurized SOFC-GT hybrid system fed by ethanol with the recycle of a cathode exhaust gas via a simulation study. Effect of important operating parameters on the electrical efficiency and heat management of the system is investigated. The results indicate that an increase in the operating pressure dramatically improves the system electrical efficiency. The suitable pressure is in a range of 4-6 bar, achieving the highest system electrical efficiency and the lowest recuperation energy from the waste heat of the GT exhaust gas. In addition, it is found that the waste heat obtained from the GT is higher than the heat required for the system, leading to a possibility of the SOFC-GT system to be operated at a self-sustainable condition. Under a high pressure operation, the SOFC-GT system requires a high recirculation of the cathode exhaust gas to maintain the system without supplying the external heat; however, the increased recirculation ratio of the cathode exhaust gas reduces the system electrical efficiency. © 2013, Hydrogen Energy Publications, LLC. Item type:Publication, Solving problem of gas turbine and hrsg trip from hydraulic damper closing in combined cycle power plant(2007-12-01) ;Laohasongkram, PhiphatLeeragreephol, SurachartThis paper addresses a technique to solve the problem of accumulated heat transfer in solenoid coil of the solenoid valve controlling hydraulic damper by using the switching technique with low frequency. This new method can result in saving the energy loss in solenoid coil. In addition, this technique aims to solve the fundamental problem by reducing direct heat transfer in solenoid coil of the solenoid valve and protecting complete gas turbine trip from the hydraulic damper closing failure and heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) trips from burnt solenoid coil of hydraulic damper. For this experiment and research, the data was collected from South Bangkok Combined Cycle Power Plant Block II.
