Item type:Publication, Characterization and properties of singly and dually modified hydrogen peroxide oxidized and glutaraldehyde crosslinked biodegradable starch films(2022-01-01); Kansanthia, PornthipPoor properties of native cassava starch film such as low mechanical properties and high water uptake are the limitations of biodegradable starch films. Dual modification is an alternative way to improve the properties. Characteristics and properties of oxidized, crosslinked and dually modified starch films by hydrogen peroxide oxidation and glutaraldehyde crosslinking were examined. Sequence of the dual modification was also studied. All starch films were prepared by casting technique using glycerol plasticizer. The oxidation and crosslinking of modified starch were confirmed by carbonyl and carboxyl contents as well as degree of crosslinking. The lowest and highest molecular weights of the modified starch were observed for the oxidized starch and crosslinked starch, respectively. Moreover, swelling power and moisture absorption of dually modified starch films was clearly lower than those of singly modified films. Additionally, both good stiffness and extensibility was also obtained from the dually modified films especially for the crosslinked-oxidized film. Moreover, thermal property and biodegradability were also determined.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Development of sterilized durian cake roll(2020-12-01) ;Chaturattanachaiporn, K.The development of durian cake roll was investigated by using a sterilization process for extending its shelf life. The first study was reported the durian cream filling with the sterilized conditions of 121°C for 15 minutes. Two types of commercial modified starch (SMS and SPF) were studied with concentrations of 6, 8 and 10% to improve the quality of the sterilized durian cream filling. The increased concentrations of both modified starches caused to increase firmness in cream. Sensory evaluation showed higher liking score on odor, taste and overall acceptance in cream with SMS modified starch than the control. The durian cake roll was improved by three hydrocolloids with different concentrations (Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose 0.8, 1.0%, Carboxymethyl cellulose 0.5, 1.0%, Xanthan gum 0.5 and 1.0%) and improved the sterilized durian cake roll. CMC of 1.0 % affected higher liking score on taste, texture and overall acceptance than trhe control which significantly lowest hardness on texture measurement. The change of durian cake roll was stored at 35 and 55°C for four weeks. Result showed that the tendency of increase in hardness and decrease in springiness of sterilized durian cake roll when kept in storage with temperature and time. Microbiology analysis using total plate count and yeast and mold count of both storage at 35 and 55°C for four weeks were lower than 1 x 101CFU which requires for Thai regulated standard.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Effect of different crosslinking agents on properties of dual modified starch biodegradable films prepared by crosslinked-oxidized method(2020-01-01) ;Tanetrungroj, YossathornDual modified starch films were prepared by using crosslinked-oxidized starch via hydrogen peroxide and different crosslinking agents, including borax and a mixture of sodium trimetaphosphate/ sodium tripolyphosphate. The effect of different crosslinking agents on the properties of dual modified films was examined and compared to single modified starch films. The crosslinked and oxidation reactions were confirmed by diminished intensity peaks of hydrogen bonding and new IR peaks of carbonyl and carboxyl groups. Tensile strength and hydrophobicity of native starch film, and elongation of crosslinked starch films were improved by crosslinked-oxidized method, especially for crosslinked starch film with borax. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Characterization and properties of biodegradable thermoplastic grafted starch films by different contents of methacrylic acid(2019-02-15) ;Weerapoprasit, ChayapaDue to poor mechanical and thermal properties of native starch (NS) film; in the present work; NS was modified by graft copolymerization. Thermoplastic starch (TPS) grafted by methacrylic acid (MAA) with different percentage of grafting, i.e., 0%, 18.3%, 36.3%, 52.1% and 89.7% were prepared and tested. The result demonstrated that the intensity of IR peak of acrylic group increased with the increasing percentage of grafting. The higher graft copolymerization with MAA also significantly reduced degree of crystallinity. The strain at maximum load of TPS film grafted by MAA increased with the increasing percentage of grafting. However, water uptake of TPS film grafted by MAA reduced with high percentage of grafting (52.1% and 89.7%). In addition, different TPS films grafted by MAA were also examined for morphology, water vapor permeability, thermal property and biodegradable property by soil buried test. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Characterization and Properties of High Amylose Mung Bean Starch Biodegradable Films Cross-linked with Malic Acid or Succinic Acid(2019-02-15) ;Thessrimuang, NaruenartBecause of weak mechanical and highly hydrophilic properties of starch, various applications for starch have been limited. In this study, mung bean starch (MBS), one type of high amylose starch, was chosen for its potential film forming biopolymers. MBS films were prepared and modified by different types and contents of natural di-carboxylic acids, i.e. malic acid (MA) and succinic acid (SA) with different acidity and chemical structures. It was found from FTIR spectra that the extra peak position of 1700 cm −1 were observed, the evidence of ester group formation for MA- or SA- modified MBS films. The incorporation of MA or SA into MBS film also caused the decrease in degree of crystallinity, as confirmed by XRD technique. Additionally, the maximum strain at maximum load was highly improved with the addition of 30% MA or SA. Moreover, swelling power and water vapor permeability (WVP) of MBS film modified by SA were lower than those by MA. Morphology, biodegradability and thermal property of different acid-modified MBS films were also investigated.
