Passive power filter(PPFs) is widely used in large industries due to their ease of use, durability, and stability. Typically, a passive power filter's lifespan can be up to 14 years, but data has shown that it has a shorter service life because of damage to capacitors for a variety of reasons, such as capacitor's degeneration, overheating in reactor, reactor's vibration, and noise due to the flowing of harmonic current through the power filter excessively. This implies that the passive power filter system is in trouble. Furthermore, it has been found that maintaining the capacitor at a low temperature can keep the %THD level within the IEEE 519-2014 range and extend the life of the capacitor. Eventually, the collected data will be used to create a neural network for capacitor prediction and maintenance for further industrial applications.

The proliferation of servo drives (SD) in the industry has led to serious concerns about harmonic resonance and power quality in electrical distribution systems. This paper reported the resonance conditions of electrical systems with motor control using a small servo drive for use in CNC machines. When a large number of servo drives are combined, it results in harmonic resonance occur in the system. Resulting in the destruction of electrical equipment such as power supply, computer, CNC, or servo drive close to each other, etc. The cost of purchasing the above electrical equipment to replace the damaged ones in each month is very high. A simple passive power filter system (PPFs) design is recommended to reduced harmonic resonance. PPFs are applied to the system and the actual installation which is satisfactory and can greatly reduce the damage of electrical equipment. Finally, the factories can save money each month.

Field Experience Guidelines for Maintaining Passive Power Filters to Improve for Power Factor and Power Quality Using Deep Learning Algorithm
    (2020-06-01)
    Boonseng, C.
With more than 20 years of field experiences in Passive Power Filters (PPFs) designs, operations, and maintenances in many large scale industries in Southeast Asia, this paper reveals a simplify yet robust technique to examine and evaluate the health of PPFs that may defect during their long term functioning to maintain power factor and power quality in the electrical system. Based on the long term experience of installing a large number of PPFs, it is found that to maintenance capacitor banks in a low temperature condition will be more benefit. Under this operation condition, not only the banks can control the %THD level within the range specified by IEEE 519-1992 and 2014 standard but also make the bank last longer. Finally, the method of inspection and maintenance are proposed using neutral network algorithms for deep learning with Python. The results are complete and can be applied in industrial plants very well.

This paper proposes a reduced 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 7th harmonic current of all power supply units and ac drives which effects of heating neutral cables and transformer. The commercial or automation building require the operation of many parallel-connected switch mode power supply and ac drive on the same bus and transformer. Such a system significantly increases the high neutral current and power quality problems on the distribution network. The existing system mainly consists of switch mode power supply and a three phase ac drive for compressor loads (common to HVAC applications). A passive power filter (PPF) and a low rating APF (Active Power Filter) at point of common coupling (PCC) are used to power quality enhancement in the distribution system. A PPF is designed to reduce the harmonics and to compensate the reactive power in the distribution system and the APF located at an upstream position near main distribution broads (MDB), it performs the compensation for harmonic current which is produced from all of drive and for remaining harmonics after the PPFs can been operation. The Hybrid Power Filter System (HPFs) is the combination of PPF and APF which mostly use for reducing harmonic currents and improving power quality of the system. Finally, using the HPFs to solve this problem, the results can reduce distortion and neutral current.
