The use of non-linear power loads causes power system distortion or harmonic problems. When that problem occurs, it must be resolved in time. Therefore, this document presents an online power quality measurement system that can quickly notify events and information. Fast data acquisition results in the quick analysis as well. Finally, the electrical system will be solved by installing a hybrid filter that is suitable for that problem.

The Study and Analysis of Passive Power Filter to Improve Power Quality by Using Deep Learning
    (2022-01-01)

Passive power filter(PPFs) is widely used in large industries due to their ease of use, durability, and stability. Typically, a passive power filter's lifespan can be up to 14 years, but data has shown that it has a shorter service life because of damage to capacitors for a variety of reasons, such as capacitor's degeneration, overheating in reactor, reactor's vibration, and noise due to the flowing of harmonic current through the power filter excessively. This implies that the passive power filter system is in trouble. Furthermore, it has been found that maintaining the capacitor at a low temperature can keep the %THD level within the IEEE 519-2014 range and extend the life of the capacitor. Eventually, the collected data will be used to create a neural network for capacitor prediction and maintenance for further industrial applications.

This research suggests suppressing and preventing the effects of small harmonic currents generated by ac drives compared to the size of the transformer. However, it can produce resonance and high destructive power. The harmonics being measured today cannot predict phenomena or interpret what is happening in the system. As a result, the design of the circuit to improve the power factor and compensate for reactive power does not meet the requirements. The incorrectly designed output is installed on an existing system. This results in a capacitor explosion that directly affects the electrical system. The study of the incorrect design results was carried out in collaboration with ten industrial factories. Every plant had a small harmonic current generated by the ac drive compared to a transformer. Moreover, there were reports of capacitor explosions causing severe damage. Methods of system-wide verification and design of power factor correction systems using harmonic filter circuits and the new design results have been reported. Finally, this paper demonstrates how to suppress the resonance harmonics problem in a simplified way by choosing a tuned filter.

The proliferation of servo drives (SD) in the industry has led to serious concerns about harmonic resonance and power quality in electrical distribution systems. This paper reported the resonance conditions of electrical systems with motor control using a small servo drive for use in CNC machines. When a large number of servo drives are combined, it results in harmonic resonance occur in the system. Resulting in the destruction of electrical equipment such as power supply, computer, CNC, or servo drive close to each other, etc. The cost of purchasing the above electrical equipment to replace the damaged ones in each month is very high. A simple passive power filter system (PPFs) design is recommended to reduced harmonic resonance. PPFs are applied to the system and the actual installation which is satisfactory and can greatly reduce the damage of electrical equipment. Finally, the factories can save money each month.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has become an essential diagnostic tool as it is a noninvasive method for diagnosing individuals of almost all ages. Using magnetic fields, MRI can produce images of the spine, brain, and other parts of the human body. This can eliminate the surgical difficulty to diagnose. In most MRI operations, it is used in conjunction with UPS to enable continuous operation and prevent power outages and system failures. In most MRI operations, it is used in conjunction with UPS to enable continuous operation and prevent power outages and system failures. MRI work at full output will generate a lot of harmonics and cause resonance at the output of the UPS to overheat and cause the UPS to reach trip. Solving this problem by using passive power filter system (PPFs) which is effective can solve this problem.

This paper is a preliminary basis in the design, planning, and implementation of hybrid power filter systems (HPFs) for application in grid-connected solar rooftop at industrial plants beginning the planning and designing of a 260 kWp solar rooftop according to the factory roof size. Calculate total returns by using the PV system design software program to find the total kWh received per year. As the power system in this factory has a load that is sensitive to power quality and harmonics, it is necessary to design a harmonic protection system by choosing the HPFs to reduced and control the harmonics. Noise filters should be used to prevent high-frequency signals from entering the electrical system. In addition, lightning protection devices are also designed by using the bus bar to connect the system to the ground. All actions have been carried out in accordance with the designed plan and able to perform as intended.

Failures in distribution transformers are associated with high property damage, high business interruption losses and large insurance deductibles. Professional independent inspection and protection design, taken on an ongoing basis, can go a long way towards reducing failures and eliminating unnecessary repair costs. This paper presents the study of the effects of lightning on electrical insulation, damage, and components in and components in 10MVA, 24/6.6kV oil-type transformers. Beginning to investigate and diagnose the cause of the transformer explosion by measuring electrical parameters to confirm which parts have been damaged. The result of the measurement shows that there is a fault in the HV coil. The investigation method focuses on the damage and solutions to prevent the problem from occurring again. Finally, a lightning protection design is necessary.

In this communication, a case study of practical field tests, analysis and problem solving of a faulty, paralleled current source inverter (CSI)-fed on induction motor drive is proposed. Since the induction motor and the drive system, which were installed and lasting over 10 years of operation in a cement kiln plant, was exposure to the problematic of abnormal temperature rising and having damaged cabling terminals. To tackle the problem, field testing data, evidence and diagnostic suggestion of the system was collected and analyzed. Key finding reveals that the paralleled CSI causes mismatching, phase-shifted, current flows into all three-phase stator windings, and thus consecutively resulting in excessive heat losses. As a result of data analysis, the corresponding method of problem solving has been taking into accounted. By tuning up the VFD's serial reactor, together with replacing and re-installing the new feeder cables and the induction motor after overhauled, respectively. The system is finally recoverable and ready to service with healthy conditions.

The solar rooftop installation is currently grown in Thailand, when many solar inverters are connected to the grid. It impacts existing electrical systems such as the harmonic resonance occur and malfunction of sensitive equipment. In addition, electrical circuit breakers, contactors, fuses, and power capacitors are damaged, which can affect electrical quality in the system. The impact of solar rooftop installation on the reliability and security of existing power grids must be urgently analyzed. This paper examines and selects methods to reduce the harmonic effects caused by the increase in solar inverter installation in existing power systems. The main objective of the study is to reduce distortion and harmonic resonance problems in the system, as well as to select suitable methods for solving problems. Practically, it is ensured that the passive power filter system (PPFs), active power filter system (APFs) and hybrid power filter system (HPFs) are the best solution applied for grid-connected system. A method for selecting a suitable solution for solving problems in each plant was proposed. A comparison of the solutions to all three methods has been analyzed for maximum benefit. Guidelines, procedures, and operational requirements can be applied in industrial plants.

This paper presents the control of power sources by lookup table controller to maintain the voltage of critical load and to prevent the collapse of a mixed-source DC microgrid which consists of grid, diesel generators, batteries and solar cells that connect to DC bus. MATLAB is used to a simulation of the microgrid system. The experiment presents the time comparison of four types of switches including magnetic contactor, relay, solid-state relay and power MOSFET which can maintain DC bus voltage in a specified range which least effects to critical load operation. Finally, applied in the data center system of a small factory which has satisfactory results.
