Item type:Publication, Influence of methane gas on growth of multi-walled carbon nanotubes by Arc discharge process(2014-03-01) ;Chaudhary, K. T. ;Rizvi, Z. H. ;Ali, J.Yupapin, P. P.The influence of methane (CH4) gas as feedstock and ambient pressures on growth of multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) and carbon nano structures is studied by arc discharge process. The discharge is produced between graphite rods at different 100, 300 and 500 torr ambient pressures. Plasma kinematics such as density and temperature is determined by optical emission spectroscopy to investigate the contribution of ambient environment and pressure towards the growth of MWCNT and nano structures. The samples of synthesized MWCNT are analyzed transmission electron microscope, scanning electron microscope, Raman spectroscope and X-ray diffraction analysis. An increase in the growth of the carbon nanotubes with increase in the ambient pressure of the CH4 gas is observed. The CH4 molecules serve as feed stock and enhance the growth of carbon nanotubes. An increase in the growth of other carbon nanostructures such as graphene are also observed with increase in pressure. Item type:Publication, Growth of small diameter multi-walled carbon nanotubes by arc discharge process(2014-01-01) ;Chaudhary, K. T. ;Ali, J.Yupapin, P. P.Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are grown by arc discharge method in a controlled methane environment. The arc discharge is produced between two graphite electrodes at the ambient pressures of 100 torr, 300 torr, and 500 torr. Arc plasma parameters such as temperature and density are estimated to investigate the influences of the ambient pressure and the contributions of the ambient pressure to the growth and the structure of the nanotubes. The plasma temperature and density are observed to increase with the increase in the methane ambient pressure. The samples of MWCNT synthesized at different ambient pressures are analyzed using transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. An increase in the growth of MWCNT and a decrease in the inner tube diameter are observed with the increase in the methane ambient pressure. © 2014 Chinese Physical Society and IOP Publishing Ltd. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Formation of Multi-Walled carbon nanotubes and graphene in methane arc discharge plasma(2014-01-01) ;Chaudhary, K. T. ;Bahtti, K. A. ;Rafique, M. S. ;Jamil, H.Ali, J.The growth of multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) and carbon nano structures is investigated in methane (CH4) environment at low pressure using arc discharge process for arc currents 50, 70 and 90A. Plasma density and temperature areestimated by optical emission spectroscopy to determine the contribution of arc current and ambient environmenttowards the growth of MWCNT and nano structures. The grown samples at different arc currents are analyzed by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy, thermogravitic analysis and x-ray diffraction. An improvement in structure quality in term of defects and increase growth of MWCNT is observed in CH4 ambient environmentwith increasein arc current. For arc current 90A, the well aligned and straight MWCNT along with graphene are detected. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Multiwalled carbon nanotube synthesis using arc discharge with hydrocarbon as feedstock(2013-01-01) ;Chaudhary, K. T. ;Rizvi, Z. H. ;Bhatti, K. A. ;Ali, J.Yupapin, P. P.Synthesis of multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) by arc discharge process is investigated with methane (CH<inf>4</inf>) as background and feedstock gas. The arc discharge is carried out between two graphite electrodes for ambient pressures 100, 300, and 500 torr and arc currents 50, 70, and 90 A. Plasma kinetics such as the density and temperature for arc discharge carbon plasma is determined to find out the contribution of physical parameters as arc current and ambient pressure on the plasma dynamics and growth of MWCNT. With increase in applied arc current and ambient pressure, an increase in plasma temperature and density is observed. The synthesized samples of MWCNT at different experimental conditions are characterized by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. A decrease in the diameter and improvement in structure quality and growth of MWCNT are observed with increase in CH <inf>4</inf> ambient pressure and arc current. For CH<inf>4</inf> ambient pressure 500 torr and arc current 90 A, the well-aligned and straight MWCNT along with graphene stakes are detected. © 2013 K. T. Item type:Publication, Graphite thin film deposition using laser induced plasma(2011-05-02) ;Chaudhary, K. T. ;Qindeel, R. ;Saktioto ;Hussain, M. S.Ali, J.The Excimer KrF laser (of wave length 248 nm, pulse energy of 13-50 mJ and pulse width of 20 ns) has been used to ablate graphite solid target. Thin films of graphite material have been grown on silicon (Si) substrate at different temperatures (25°C & 300°C). The techniques x-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy has been used to study the structure and surface morphology of the deposited thin films. The whole experiment has been performed in the stainless steel chamber under pressure 10-4 torr and each thin film has been deposited for 10,000 laser shots. The graphite thin film deposited at higher substrate temperature has smooth structure and the film is uniform.
