Item type:Publication, Experimental investigation of the influence of ethanol and biodiesel on common rail direct injection diesel Engine's combustion and emission characteristics(2022-11-01) ;Wai, Phyo ;Kanokkhanarat, Phobkrit ;Oh, Ban Seok ;Wongpattharaworakul, VeerayutDepaiwa, NattawootThis study aims to characterize the effect of oxygenated biofuels in diesel engine combustion, thermal efficiency, and emission by blending different percentages of ethanol and biodiesel with fossil fuel derived diesel. In this research, 5% and 10% by weight of bioethanol were added to commercial B10 (10% biodiesel and 90% diesel), B20 (20% biodiesel and 80% diesel) and B100 (100% biodiesel) and experimented on using a 3 L four-cylinder common rail diesel engine. The experiment was performed under three engine speeds of 1000 rpm, 1500 rpm, and 2000 rpm with three constant engine torques of 56 Nm, 84 Nm, and 140 Nm. The results show that ethanol-biodiesel-diesel ternary blended fuels are higher in premixed combustion pressure and net heat release rate (NHRR) peaks. The cumulative heat release of ethanol blended fuels is also higher for ethanol blended fuels. The fuel consumption increased with the ethanol and biodiesel percentage in the blended fuels due to the lower heating value while the brake thermal efficiency did not decrease. It was clearly observed that the particle emission could be reduced by more than 50% when ethanol and biodiesel percentage increased. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Preparation of carbon supported catalyst from cattail leaves for biodiesel fuel upgrading application(2019-01-01) ;Jaruwat, Dolrudee ;Udomsap, Parncheewa ;Chollacoop, NuwongEiad-Ua, ApiluckCarbon supported catalyst have been successfully synthesised from cattail leaves via hydrothermal carbonization for biodiesel fuel upgrading. This research study the effect of hydrothermal temperature (160-200 °C), reaction time (4-12 h) and influence of co-solvent such as CH<inf>3</inf>OH, C<inf>2</inf>H<inf>5</inf>OH, H<inf>2</inf>SO<inf>4</inf>, and HCl treatment to porosity and surface area of carbon material. The sample have been characterized by scanning electron microscopy, nitrogen sorption, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy were employed to characterize morphology, specific area (S<inf>BET</inf>), and surface function, respectively. The results revealed that hydrothermal-carbonization process and co-solvent treatment have effect on the properties of supported carbon. The hydrothermal temperatures and time were increased resulted in the surface area and pore volume of supported carbon gradually increased leading to increasing metal distribution on the surface of supported carbon. It can be implied that the catalyst is good catalytic activity - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Influence of Mg modifier on cis-trans selectivity in partial hydrogenation of biodiesel using different metal types(2016-06-25) ;Thunyaratchatanon, Chachchaya ;Jitjamnong, Jakkapong ;Luengnaruemitchai, Apanee ;Numwong, NatthidaChollacoop, NuwongThe catalytic performance of Pd, Pt, and Ni supported on catalysts was investigated for partial hydrogenation of soybean methyl esters, in terms of FAME composition and biodiesel properties, especially oxidative stability and cold flow properties. The effect of Mg modifier over SiO-supported catalysts on cis-trans selectivity of polyunsaturated FAMEs was also examined. The catalytic testing was performed under reaction conditions of 4 bar hydrogen pressure and 80-120 °C. Hydrogenation activity was presented by turnover frequency (TOF) of diunsaturated fatty acid (C18:2) within 4 h of the reaction time. The highest TOF was obtained over Pd catalysts, while the lowest TOF was obtained from Ni catalysts. At high reaction temperature conditions showed a large amount of cis-monounsaturated fatty acid (cis-C18:1); however, it exhibited a large amount of trans-monounsaturated fatty acid (trans-C18:1) which has a negative impact on biodiesel properties. The XPS revealed that the introduction of Mg leads to a strong metal-support interaction caused by electron transfer from the support to the metal, which decreased trans-C18:1 formation and presented the higher oxidative stability than the catalysts without Mg modifier. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Characterization of Biodiesel Particle Emission in Trapping and Regeneration Processes on Cordierite Diesel Particulate Filter(2015-11-17) ;Siricholathum, Komkla ;Karin, Preechar ;Charoenphonphanich, Chinda ;Hanamura, KatsunoriChollacoop, NuwongAs well-known, the diesel engine has the highest thermal efficiency at the same load as compared with internal combustion engine but its disadvantage is particulate matter (PM) emitted to the atmosphere. The studies of this paper were divided into two parts. The first part studied the quantity of PM from the both diesel and biodiesel fuels at 80% load (2400 rpm) by the trapping process on diesel particulate filter (DPF) used in a partial flow dilution tunnel. The second part studied the regeneration process of PM under the flow rate of oxygen and nitrogen gas of 13.5 L/min with 10%, 15%, and 21% of oxygen gas. The result showed that amount of PM from biodiesel fuel was lower around two times than PM from diesel fuel. The duration in regeneration process of biodiesel's PM was shorter than diesel while increasing of oxygen percentage can reduce regeneration time. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Spray visualization of biodiesel and diesel in a high pressure chamber(2014-01-01) ;Srichai, Prathan ;Chareonphonphanich, Chinda ;Karin, PreecharChollacoop, NuwongThe present research attempted to characterize fuel spray pattern, such as spray angle, spray penetration and their mixture formation by recourse to images analysis. Diesel and biodiesel were used to investigate via a single hole injector (solinoild type) in a constant volume high-pressure chamber. In this experimental study, the spray characteristics of diesel and biodiesel fuel were comparatively evaluated. Initial conditions were ambient temperature, ambient density of 21 kg/m3, injection durations varied from 0.5 and 1 ms and rail pressure of 400 and 800 bar. The series of images were captured by high speed video camera with resolution of 7,500 frames per second and shutter speed of 1/10,000 sec under Schlieren photography technique. The result showed the biodiesel spray penetration was longer than that of the diesel, and spray angle of biodiesel in start injection was larger than biodiesel. From the results, it can be concluded that the higher the density and viscosity of biodiesel, the stronger the effect on the spray mixture formation. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
