The activated ilmenite nanocomposite of TiO<inf>2</inf> hybridized were prepared by natural ilmenite and commercial TiO<inf>2</inf> anatase assembled using sugar as cross-link agents and carbon source. The heterostructure interface of anatase-ilmenite junction, crystallinity and chemical state were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Composite morphologies and structures were investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Synergistic of low energy gap in range of visible light and interfacial charge separate from TiO2 to ilmenite junction was evaluated in photocatalytic degradation of organic dye. The result from visible light catalytic dye degradation suggests that narrow bandgap energy is associated to ilmenite phase and sensitization by carbon with low recombination rate of generated electron-hole pair transfer. This mechanism occurred by multiphase junction could enhance visible light photocatalytic activity.

Ti-doped indium tin oxide (ITO) nanoparticles (TITO) with different molar ratios of Ti:ITO were synthesized by co-precipitation method using Ti(OCH2CH2CH2CH3)4, InCl3 and SnCl4·5H2O as starting precursors. Deionized (DI) water was selected as the solvent in this process. The as-precipitated powders were calcined at different temperature in range of 700 °C for 2 h. For all samples, their crystal structures, Optical property and morphologies were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy and Scanning electron microscope (SEM), respectively. XRD results reveal that the purity of as-synthesized sample is increased by the increase of calcination temperatures. Moreover, it is noticed that the incorporation of Ti into ITO matrix significantly affects to their relevant physical properties especially optical properties. In addition, SEM micrographs show that the sample agglomeration is noticeably influenced by Ti doping content.

Ga-doped ZnO (GZO) nanoparticles were synthesized by co-precipitation process from starting precursors zinc dichloride (ZnCl2) and Gallium (III) nitrate hydrate (GaN3O9). The deionized (DI) water was selected as the solvent. The as-precipitated powders were calcined at different temperature of 700 and 1000 °C for 2 h. For all samples, their crystal structures were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and surface morphologies were observed by a field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). The XRD results revealed that, the crystallinity of powders increases when the calcination temperature increases. Moreover, it is noticed that the intermixture phases of ZnO and Ga2O3 occur when the Ga doping content is exceeded the solubility limit of about 10%. In addition, SEM micrographs show the decrease of particle size with increasing Ga doping content due to lattice distortion that can hinder the crystal growth of ZnO. © 2015

In this work, sol-gel spin-coating was employed to prepare ZnO, Al-doped ZnO (AZO) and Mg-doped ZnO (MZO) thin films onto glass substrates. Structural properties and surface morphologies of as-prepared films were characterised by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) while their optical properties were scrutinised from their transmission spectra measured by UV-VIS spectrophotometer. Their optical responses and sensitivity of the films were investigated by photocurrent spectroscopy. The XRD and SEM results show that the crystallinity and physical structure of as-prepared films are highly affected by Al and Mg doping. UV-VIS spectrophotometer results suggest that Mg and Al dopants could not only improve their optical transparency but also significantly cause the blue-shift in optical band gap of ZnO films. In addition, the enhancement in photosensitivity of ZnO films can be attained by specific Al and Mg doping content. Copyright © 2014 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Aluminum doped zinc oxide (AZO) thin films were studied as an UV photodetector devices. The AZO thin films were prepared on FTO substrates by spin coating technique. All samples exhibit prominent optical absorption edge with high optical transparency in visible range and significant blue-shift in optical band gap with increasing Al composition. The photoilluminated current increases linearly with increasing bias voltage reflecting ohmic contact behavior. The detectors have excellent ultraviolet response in wavelength region of 250-380 nm suggesting that tunable wavelength response can be obtained by increasing Al composition.

Zinc-Tin oxide compounds (Zn-Sn-O) were successfully prepared via a facile co-precipitation process using zinc dichloride dihydrate as the zinc source and tin tetrachloride pentahydrate as an additive source. The as-prepared product of Zn-Sn-O powders with various Sn additive contents (0-60 %wt) were obtained without calcinations process. The effect of Sn additive on structural and microstructure properties of the samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscope(SEM). The results indicate that the crystallinity and morphologies of ZnO nanoparticles are significantly influenced by Sn additive. The phase formations of Zn-Sn-O including ZnO, ZnSn(OH)<inf>6</inf> were observed depending on the Sn-additive composition.

Al-doped ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized by sonochemical method from zinc acetate dehydrate and aluminum acetate as starting precursors. The deionized (DI) water was selected as the solvent. Sonication of the precursor was performed by a Sonics Model VCX 750 for 30 minutes until precipitated product was finally obtained. The as-precipitated powders were calcined at different temperature range of 550-1100 °C for 2 hr. For all samples, their crystal structures were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and surface morphologies were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The XRD results revealed that, the purity of as-synthesized powders increases when the calcination temperature increases. Moreover, it is noticed that the AlZnO partial peaks will appear when the as-synthesized powders were calcined at 800 - 1000 °C. In addition, SEM micrographs show the increase of agglomeration and the particles when the calcination temperature increases. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

In this work, ZnO, Al-doped ZnO (AZO) and Mg-doped ZnO (MZO) thin films were deposited onto glass substrates by sol-gel spin-coating method. The doping composition was varied from 0-10 at.%. Structural properties and surface morphologies of as-prepared films were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Optical properties of the films were interpreted from their transmission spectra using UV-VIS spectrophotometer. The photocurrent spectroscopy was employed to study their optical response and sensitivity of the films. The XRD and SEM results disclosed that the crystallinity and grain size of as-prepared films were strongly influenced by Al and Mg doping. UV-VIS spectrophotometer results indicated that Mg and Al additives could not only efficiently improve the optical transparency but also obviously induce the blue-shift in optical band gap of ZnO films. The photocurrents of as-prepared films disclosed that the enhancement in photosensitivity of ZnO films can be achieved by specific content of either Al or Mg additives. © 2013 IEEE.

In this work, nitrogen-doped MgZnO thin films were deposited on glass substrate by spin-coating technique and thermal annealing treatment. The X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and optical transmission measurement were carried out to investigate the effect of growth temperature and nitrogen doping on the physical and optical properties of the films. XRD and SEM results revealed that the crystallinity and preferred c-axis orientation was enhanced with increasing annealing temperature and certain concentration of N-doping. In addition, the films incorporated with nitrogen doping exhibit significant blue shift in optical band gap and improvement in its transparency. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
