Item type:Publication, Liquid-Phase Selective Hydrogenation of Furfural to Furfuryl Alcohol over Ferromagnetic Element (Fe, Co, Ni, Nd)-Promoted Pt Catalysts Supported on Activated Carbon(2022-04-01) ;Saknaphawuth, Sureeporn ;Weerachawanasak, Patcharaporn ;Chuenchom, Laemthong ;Praserthdam, PiyasanPanpranot, JoongjaiFerromagnetic element (x = Fe, Co, Ni, and Nd)-promoted Pt/AC catalysts were prepared by co-impregnation method or physical mixing and tested in the liquid-phase hydrogenation of furfural to furfuryl alcohol (FA) under mild conditions (50◦C and 20 bar H<inf>2</inf> ) using water and methanol as the solvent. Among the various catalysts studied, the 0.15FePt/AC exhibited complete conversion of furfural with an FA selectivity of 74% after only 1 h of reaction time in water. The promotional effect of the bimetallic catalysts became less pronounced when methanol was used as the solvent and a 2-furaldehyde dimethyl acetal solvent product was formed. The superior catalyst performances were correlated with the higher Pt dispersion, the presence of low coordination Pt sites, and the strong Pt–Fe interaction as characterized by X-ray diffraction, H<inf>2</inf> temperature-programmed reduction (H<inf>2</inf>-TPR), N<inf>2</inf> physisorption, and infrared spectroscopy of the adsorbed CO (CO-IR). However, to simply use a magnet for catalyst separation, 0.5 wt% Fe was the minimum Fe loading on the Pt/AC. The 0.5FePt/AC still exhibited good magnetic properties after the third consecutive runs. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Novel magnetically interconnected micro/macroporous structure of monolithic porous carbon adsorbent derived from sodium alginate and wasted black liquor and its adsorption performance(2021-01-01) ;Onsri, Parichart ;Dechtrirat, Decha ;Nooeaid, Patcharakamon ;Eiad-Ua, ApiluckAmornpitoksuk, PongsatonThe novel and facile preparation of magnetically interconnected micro/macroporous structure of monolithic porous carbon adsorbent (MPCA) were designed and presented herein. The synthesis was achieved via conventional freeze-drying and pyrolysis processes. In this study, sodium alginate and wasted black liquor were employed as starting pre-cursors. Sodium alginate acts as a template of materials, whereas black liquor, the wasted product from the paper industry with plentiful of lignin content and alkaline solution, played an essential role in the reinforcement and activation of porosity for the resulting materials. Moreover, both the precursors were well dissolved in Fe3+ solution, providing a simple addition of a magnetic source in a one-pot synthesis. The interconnected micro/macroporous structures were generated through freeze-drying and, subsequently the pyrolysis process. The obtained cylindrical-shaped monolithic porous carbon adsorbent (MPCA-700) showed high mechanical stability, a high BET specific surface area (902 m2/g). Such aforementioned features were considered suitable to make the synthesized monolith as an adsorbent for the removal of heavy metal ions. The maximum adsorption capacity of MPCA-700 towards Pb2+ ions was 76.34 mg/g at pH 5. The adsorption studies illustrated that adsorption kinetics and isotherm perfectly fitted with the pseudo-second-order kinetics model and Langmuir isotherm, respectively. This work presents a promising pro-tocol to reduce the overall costs in the preparation of renewable adsorbents with good adsorption efficiency and regeneration. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Synthesis of nanoporous material from lignin via carbonization assisted acid activation(2020-01-01) ;Ngamthanacom, Nutchaporn ;Kaewtrakulchai, Napat ;Chaiwat, Weerawut ;Chuenchom, LaemthongFuji, MasayoshiWaste lignin (WL) from the pulp mill and paper was studied for its potential application to prepare the nanoporous carbon with high porosity via carbonization assisted acid activation. The effect of acid activation such as HNO3, HCl, H2SO4, and H3PO4 on lignin transformation to nanoporous carbon investigated. The physicochemical properties of nanoporous carbon were comprehensively characterized through N2 sorption, Scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), respectively. N2 sorption revealed that the condition using 5% vol of phosphoric acid activation at carbonization temperature of 700°C for 2 h exhibited the highly porous structure of carbon nanoparticles with a total pore volume of 0.035 cm3 /g. With the properly selecting process variables of waste lignin development could be producing high porosity nanoporous carbon. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Influence of acid-treatment on waste lignin for synthesis of carbon nanoparticles(2019-01-01) ;Ngamthanacom, Nutchaporn ;Kaewtrakulchai, Napat ;Chaiwat, Weerawut ;Chuenchom, LaemthongFuji, MasayoshiWaste lignin (WL) obtained from paper mills, was studied for its potential application in preparing carbon nanoparticles (CNPs) with high porosity. This was done by impregnation of 0, 5, 10 and 20% concentrations of phosphoric acid under various carbonization temperatures (600, 700, 800 and 900°C). The physicochemical properties of CNPs were characterized through nitrogen sorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Nitrogen sorption revealed that the condition using 10% concentration of phosphoric acid treatment at a carbonization temperature of 700°C formed carbon nanoparticles with a highly porous structure (Surface area 27.65 m2 /g and pore volume 0.07 cm3 /g). Additionally, in order to high surface area, porosity and concentrated carbon nanoparticle.
