    Luminescence of Ce3+ in the InxSC1 - xB03 (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) solid solution

    The formation of a complete solid solution in the In<inf>itx</inf>Sc<inf>1 - x</inf>BO<inf>3</inf> (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) system with a linear variation in unit cell parameters is reported. Crystal growth of the In<inf>0.359</inf>Sc<inf>0.639</inf>Ce<inf>0.002</inf>BO<inf>3</inf> composition was performed by slow cooling of a high temperature solution using LiBO<inf>2</inf> as a solvent in an Ar atmosphere. The luminescence of Ce<sup>3+</sup> in the In<inf>x</inf>SC<inf>1 - x</inf>BO<inf>3</inf> solid solutions and in the as-grown single crystals was investigated. The influence of In content on the luminescent intensity of Ce<sup>3+</sup> is discussed in relation to heat treatment conditions. © 1994.
