Item type:Publication, Evaluation of bio-formulation from Chaetomium elatum ChE01 to control banana anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum musae(2019-01-01) ;Soytong, K. ;Suthammarit, S.Kanokmedhakul, S.Anthracnose of banana is proved to cause by Colletotrichum musae. Chaetomium elatum ChE01 inhibited the growth of C. musae within 30 days in bi-culture plates over 60 % and inhibited the spore production of C. musae of 57 %. The metabolites from C. elatum ChE01 actively fungal activity against C. musae for spore inhibition which crude methanol, crude ethyl acetate and crude hexane extracts at the ED<inf>50</inf> value was 5.43, 7.43 and 19.62 ppm., respectively. The new bio-formulation of C. elatum ChE01 reduced disease incidence of banana anthracnose of 13.34 % compared to benomyl that reduced the disease incidence of 13.05 %. Moreover, the crude extract mixture of C. elatum ChE01 and spore suspension of C. elatum ChE01 reduced the anthracnose incidence of 2.13 and 2.04 %, respectively. The research finding is reported for the first time that bioformulations of C. elatum ChE01 could control banana anthracnose caused by C. musae. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Antifungal metabolites from antagonistic fungi used to control tomato wilt fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici(2011-12-28) ;Sibounnavong, P. ;Charoenporn, C. ;Kanokmedhakul, S.Soytong, K.Chaetomium elatum strain ChE01, Chaetomium lucknowense strain CLT01 and Emericella rugulosa strain ER01, which were isolated from soil in Thailand, effectively controlled the most virulent isolate of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici NKSC02 causing wilt of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum var Sida). Two antifungal substances were purified: Chaetoglobosin-C from Ch. elatum and Ch. lucknowense and tajixanthone from E. rugulosa. Chaetoglobosin-C showed greater antifungal activity against F. oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici, with an effective dose (ED <inf>50</inf>) of 5.98 μg/ml, compared with tajixanthone (ED <inf>50</inf> of 167 μg/ml). These results suggest that the disease control mechanism of these antagonistic fungi involves antibiosis. The inoculating tomato seedlings var. Sida with conidia of F. oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici, mixed with either a solution of chaetoglobosin-C or tajixanthone showed no wilt symptom. The conidia of F. oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici treated with these two compounds appeared abnormal and lost pathogenicity. © 2011 Academic Journals. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Evaluation of bio-agent formulations to control Fusarium wilt of tomato(2010-09-06) ;Charoenporn, C. ;Kanokmedhakul, S. ;Lin, F. C. ;Poeaim, S.Soytong, K.The ED<inf>50</inf> value of antagonistic substance from Chaetomium globosum N0802 extracted with hexane was 157 μg/ml. This gave the highest inhibition of conidial production of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici causing tomato wilt var Sida. Crude hexane from Chaetomium lucknowense CLT and crude methanol from Trichoderma harzianum PC01 gave ED<inf>50</inf> values of 188 and 192 μg/ml. It clearly demonstrated that antagonistic substances from all tested fungi could be deformed and this could break the conidial cells. The bio-agent formulations namely N0802, CLT and PC01 gave significantly highest disease reduction of tomato wilt which were 44.68, 36.28 and 41.01%, respectively, followed by prochoraz (21.95%). All tested bio-agent formulations could significantly increase the yield of tomato when compared to prochoraz and inoculated control. It is concluded that C. globosum, C. lucknowense and T. harzianum developed as bio-agent formulations namely N0802, CLT and PC01 and showed their abilities to control tomato wilt. © 2010 Academic Journals. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Application of Chaetomium species (Ketomium®) as a new broad spectrum biological fungicide for plant disease control: A review article(2001-12-01) ;Soytong, K. ;Kanokmedhakul, S. ;Kukongviriyapa, V.Isobe, M.Research and development of biological control agents for use against plant diseases have been undertaken for several years in both government and private sectors, as natural agents are needed to take the place of chemical fungicides. The problem associated with the use of hazardous chemicals for disease control has received increasing attention worldwide, due to the fact that pathogens become resistant to chemical fungicides and the resulting environmental pollution and ecological imbalances. The implementation of practical integrated biological control technology to control plant diseases has been successfully introduced to growers in China, Philippines, Russia, Thailand and Vietnam by using new broad spectrum biological fungicides from Chaetomium (Thailand Patent No. 6266, International Code: AO1N 25/12 and registered as Ketomium® mycofungicide). Since 1989, the biological product has been developed and improved from 22-strains of Chaetomium cupreum CC01-CC10 and Chaetomium globosum CG01-CG12 in the form of pellet and powder formulation. The formulation has successfully been applied to infested field-soils with integrated with cultural control measures and organic amendments for the long-term protection of Durian (Durio zibethinus L.) and Black Pepper (Piper nigram L.) caused by Phytophthora palmivora, Tangerine (Citrus reticulata Blanco) caused by Phytophthora parasitica and Strawberry (Fragaria spp.) caused by Phytophthora cactorum, Wilt of Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici and Basal rot of Corn (Zea mays L.) caused by Sclerotium rolfsii against Phytophthora rot. Bio-control technology of plant diseases has successfully been demonstrated, either completely or partially, when integrated with other control measures for appropriate disease management. Biological products are useful, not only for the protection against plant diseases, but can also be used for curative effects of plant diseases, and also promote plant growth.
