Item type:Publication, An application of rate-adaptive RS-codes in wireless Body Area Network(2015-08-17) ;Khattiya, WannaritChoomchuay, SomsakThis paper proposes the preliminary investigation of rate adaptive error correction coding applied to MAC layer of Body Area Network (WBAN). Health monitoring is a crucial part of proactive patient treatment. As a nature to WBAN communication, there appears severe noise level surrounding the human body. The transmission quality is deterred according to the present of noise. The issue can be improved by appending Error Correction Code (ECC) to the communication message. However, such an effort can cause the packet overhead, latency, and more energy consumption. To mitigate these disadvantages, the rate adaptive of ECC is proposed. The Reed-Solomon (RS) code designed in GF256 has been employed in this study. It fits well the maximum MAC length which is 255 bytes. In our investigation, several MIT-BIH Arrhythmia databases are chosen as input data to represent the patient monitoring condition. The Rician fading channel model is involved as its quite nature to WBAN characteristic. The codes performances are measured in Bit Error Rate (BER) and energy consumption unit. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Performance evaluation of LDPC codes on patterned WBAN data(2015-01-26) ;Sansoda, Buncha ;Choomchuay, Somak ;Timakul, SeksonKhattiya, WannaritIn this decade, WBAN plays vital role in health care monitoring environment. It has been used more intensively in wider applications. This paper proposes error control coding applied to WBAN. LDPC codes with the block size of 255 bytes are particularly of interest. Patterned information such as MIT-BIH's arrhythmia datasets extracted from Electrocardiography (ECG) of the patients who encountered heart disease. To measure the system performance, random data are also examined. The system was simulated on Rician channel where severe noise are quite nature to WBAN compared to AWGN channel. Rician channel with some K-factors was investigated. The obtained result shows that both patterned data and random data can be recovered well when Eb/N0 equals 3 dB and above. While the code rates were made varied from 0.50 to 0.75, we can obtain the gain of 3 dB, 5 dB, and 6 dB respectively. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, An error control coding in MAC layer for UWB WBAN(2013-12-01) ;Khattiya, Wannarit ;Timakul, SeksonChoomchuay, SomsakNowadays, Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) has become an interesting area of researchers since it can facilitate medical experts to provide a real-time health monitoring. The increasing of elder population is the main driven factor in implementing the medical intelligent services. Application of intelligent medical care system in the disaster environment is also not even less important. In such a vital application system as well as other large bandwidth requirement system, such as a cardiogram and heartbeat monitoring, the communication needs not only the reliability but also the realtime action. Considering the physical layer of IEEE 802.15.6 standard, Ultra Wideband offers an advantage in term of bandwidth availability. In this paper we propose the preliminary investigation of the application of error control code to MAC layer data. Of its both random and burst error correction capability, Reed-Solomon codes have been considered. In our investigation, several MIT-BIH Arrhythmia databases are chosen as input data. The coding scheme is applied to the 250 byte payload data. RS(250, k) which is the shorten version of RS(255, k) defined in GF(256) with variable code rate are investigated. AWGN channel and fading channels are employed to examine code's performance. © 2013 IEEE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Performance comparison of convolutional codes for UWB-WBAN applications(2013-12-01) ;Sansoda, Buncha ;Khattiya, WannaritChoomchuay, SomsakA wireless body area network is a radio-frequency-based wireless networking technology that interconnects tiny nodes with sensor or actuator capabilities in, on, or around a human body. WBANs provide promising applications in medical monitoring systems to measure specified physiological data and also provide location-based information, if required. This paper we propose the preliminary investigation of the application of error control code to MAC layer data. Convolutional codes and punctured codes have been considered. The punctured codes are used to step up the code rate from its mother code rate. In our investigation, ECG data from MIT-BIH Arrhythmia databases are chosen as input data. The coding performance comparison is selected to various parameters such as constrain length and code rate. The result will be a compromise between errors correcting capability and needed to reduce the number of data bits in the channel. © 2013 IEEE.
