The well-known circuit for the generation of lightning impulse voltage (LIV) on low-inductance loads was introduced by Glaninger in 1975, and the circuit component selection was proposed by Feser. However, the circuit and the approach for the component selection have some dif-ficulties for which further adjustment is required for obtaining the waveform parameters according to the standard requirement. In this paper, an extended Glaninger’s circuit with an additional series resistor is proposed. Furthermore, a systematic design and circuit analysis of LIV generation for low-inductance loads are developed. With the help of a circuit simulator, the circuit analysis for the component selection is described. The validity of the proposed circuit was confirmed by some experimental results in comparison with the simulated ones. The proposed circuit and component selection provide not only the generation waveform according to the standard requirement but also other promising performances in terms of the wide inductance load range from 400 µH to 4 mH, a voltage efficiency of over 80%, an overshoot voltage of below 5%, an undershoot voltage of below 40%, and a maximum charging capacitance of 10 µF. From the simulated and experimental results, the proposed circuit and component selection approach is very useful for the LIV tests on low-inductance loads instead of using the conventional approach based on trial and error.

This paper presents design and construction of the ozone generator based on a resonant converter. Ozone is caused by the combination of 3 oxygen atoms. Ozone gas is widely used in the industry for killing bacteria, viruses, and protozoa. The ozone gas doesn't cause residual pollution. The ozone gas can be produced from corona discharge on the area with high electrical field stress. In this paper, the resonant converter was developed for high voltage generation on coaxial cylindrical electrodes which are utilized to produces ozone gas. The resonant converter divided into 2 parts. The first part is the control circuit and the second part is the power circuit. The power circuit was used to convert AC voltage to AC voltage with other frequencies. Additionally, the converter can generate a square voltage with adjustable frequency for finding the resonant frequency. From the experiment, the resonant converter can produce ozone gas effectively.

This paper presents the usage of multilevel frequency converters for partial discharge tests and an approach for noise reduction. The comparison of the background noise generated by square wave (2-level) and 5-level frequency converters with the frequency of 200 Hz is presented. The testing frequency of 200 Hz is necessary for partial discharge test of transformers because of avoiding saturation effect of the iron core. Therefore, the frequency converter must be generated the voltage with the frequency of more than two time of the power frequency. The comparison of background noise and output voltage waveform generated by the developed converters is presented. Both frequency converters with the noise reduction technique (applied a low pass filter) have very low background noise, and the generated voltages are closed to pure sinusoidal waveform when the frequency converters supply to PD test circuit.

This paper presents the analysis of an AC-AC converter used in partial discharge test. In this paper, the analysis of the frequency converter is separated into two parts. Firstly, the converter models are simulated by a circuit simulation program for comparing noise signals generated by the 2-level SFC and 5-level SFC. The frequency of the converter was set to be 200 Hz. With the help of the simulator, the approach for noise mitigation with filter application is designed and applied to the PD test system. In the second part, the developed static frequency converters are used in the partial discharge tests for confirming the simulation results. From all simulated and experimental results, it can be concluded that the 5-level SFC has high efficiency, low generated noise signal, and also very attractive for using in partial discharge test.
