A dual feed switched-beam patch antenna is proposed and analyzed. A square patch of one wavelength in dielectric substrate is designed to accommodate TM<inf>020</inf> and TM<inf>200</inf> mode distributions. Using this concept, dielectric constant between 2.32 to 10.2 can be utilized to obtain bidirectional patterns without minor lobes. The feed position must be appropriately designed to provide good matching and isolation between the feeds. For instance, the substrate of ε<inf>r</inf> = 4.4 is fed at 0.114λ<inf>0</inf> offset from the center of the antenna. This antenna is suitable for using as elements of a phased array of switchedbeam elements. Copyright 2006 IEICE.

A phased-array antenna with switched-beam elements used to combat interference in an indoor wireless communication system is described. The array uses 1-bit phase shifters applied to its elements in order to point its main beam in a desired direction and internal switching of elements in order to form nulls towards interference. The array's capability of suppressing interference is verified by studying its radiation patterns and by performing interference-rejection experiments in an indoor multipath environment. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

A phased array antenna of switched-beam elements is proposed to improve the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR). By using 1-bit phase shifters, the main beam of the array is switched to desired signal direction, and with the switched-beam patch antenna elements the null patterns are changeable. The results of radiation patterns show that the interference suppression can be improved. Moreover, the SIR measurement is also set up in multipath environment to ensure the array performance. It is found that the SIR is significantly affected by the multipath environment; however, the SIR improvement of more than 10 dB can be obtained by changing the null patterns. © 2005 IEEE.
