Item type:Publication, Improving FRT capability and alleviating output power of DFIG wind turbine by SMES-FCL(2016-04-15)Ngamroo, IssarachaiThe fault ride through (FRT) capability, and output power fluctuation are important problems of the grid connected-doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) wind turbine. In this paper, the superconducting magnetic energy storage-fault current limiter (SMES-FCL) with the common part of superconducting coil (SC) is presented to solve both problems. During normal operation, the control of SC is employed to alleviate the output power fluctuation of DFIG. During system faults, the SC acts as the fault current limiter to augment the FRT capability. The control scheme of inverter and DC-chopper using PI controllers are described. Simulation study confirms that the SMES-FCL yields the superior stabilizing effect over the individual SMES or FCL. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Coordinated control of DFIG wind turbine and SVC for robust power system stabilization(2015-08-17) ;Uong, SothyNgamroo, IssarachaiIn this paper, a coordinated control of doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) wind turbine and static var compensator (SVC) is proposed for the robust stabilization of interconnected power system. By modulating the reactive power output of DFIG and SVC, the power oscillation can be damped. To implement this control, the power oscillation damper (POD) with the 2nd-order lead-lag compensator is added to the voltage controller of DFIG and SVC. The mixed H<inf>2</inf>/H<inf>∞</inf> control method is adopted to formulate the parameters optimization problem of POD. Solving the problem by an improved backtracking search algorithm (BSA), the optimal parameters of POD can be achieved. Simulation results in the two-area four-machine power system confirm the robustness and damping effect of the proposed coordinated control.
