Item type:Publication, Performance improvement of a slip energy recovery drive system by a voltage-controlled technique(2010-10-01) ;Tunyasrirut, Satean ;Kinnares, VijitNgamwiwit, JongkolThis paper introduces the performance improvement of a slip energy recovery drive system for the speed control of a wound rotor induction motor by a voltage-controlled technique. The slip energy occurred in the rotor circuit is transferred back to ac mains supply through a reactor instead of a step up transformer. The objective of the voltage-controlled technique is to increase power factor of the system and to reduce low order harmonics of the input line current. The drive system is designed and implemented using a voltage source inverter in conjunction with a boost chopper for DC link voltage, instead of a conventional drive using a 6 pulse converter or a Scherbius system. The slip power is recovered by the help of a voltage source inverter (VSI) based on a space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) technique. In order to keep the speed of the wound rotor induction motor constant over a certain range of operating conditions, the servo state feedback controller designed by a linear quadratic regulator (LQR) is also introduced in this paper. The overall control system is implemented on DSP, DS1104'TMS320F240 controller board. The performance improvement of the proposed system is tested in comparison with the conventional Scherbius system and the modified conventional Scherbius system by a 12 pulse converter in conjunction with a chopper at steady state and at dynamic conditions. A 220 W wound motor is employed for testing. It is found that the motor speed can be controlled to be constant in the operating range of 450-1200 rpm at no load and full load. It is also found that the efficiency of the proposed system is remarkably increased since the harmonics of the input ac line current is reduced while the ac line input power factor is increased. © 2010 Elsevier Ltd. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Optimal H2 controller design with derivative state constraints for torsional vibration system(2009-01-01) ;Komine, Noriyuki ;Boksuwan, Sungwan ;Benjanarasuth, TawornNgamwiwit, JongkolThe powerful derivative state constrained H<inf>2</inf> optimal is presented in order to reduce vibration in oscillatory system with a constant disturbance will be considered. It is shown that the derivative state constrained optimal H<inf>2</inf> integral problems can be reduced to the standard optimal H<inf>2</inf> control. In this paper, the derivative state constrained optimal H<inf>2</inf> integral controller is presented based on the optimal H<inf>2</inf> control problem to control underdamped responses of the linear systems. And the simulation results show that the proposed method is also effectiveness to reduce the damping for the torsional vibration based on two-inertia system. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Simplified design of I-P controller for speed control of two-inertia system(2008-12-01) ;Suathed, Sataporn ;Nundrakwang, Songmoung ;Benjanarasuth, Taworn ;Ngamwiwit, JongkolKomme, NoriyukiIn this paper, a simplified design of I-P controller for a higher-order plant by using the concept of plant model reduction and the CRA method with less number of characteristic ratios α, is presented. The Padé type approximation method is used to obtain a lower-order plant model of the higher-order plant first. Then an I-P controller is designed for the model by using CRA method with the appropriate values of characteristic ratios in order to obtain the closed-loop step response without overshoot. Finally, the designed I-P controller is employed to control the original higher-order plant. The sufficient performance of the speed control of a two-inertia system employing the I-P controller designed from its lower-order plant model is shown by the simulation results. The simulation results of the speed control in term of varying the value of a factor β greater than one in the design, tracking the motor speed, and rejecting the disturbance effect are also investigated. © 2008 SICE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Multivariable control of overhead crane system by CRA method(2008-12-01) ;Nundrakwang, Songmoung ;Benjanarasuth, Taworn ;Ngamwiwit, JongkolKomine, NoriyukiIn this paper, three controllers, namely I-PD, PD and I-P controllers designed by CRA method for simultaneously controlling the trolley position, load-swing angle and hoisting rope length of the overhead crane system is proposed. The non-linear model of the crane system is first approximated to be three transfer functions in accordance with the trolley position, load-swing angle and hoisting rope length respectively. Then, the corresponding parameters of the I-PD, PD and I-P controllers are designed independently based on the appropriate values of generalized time constant and characteristic ratios. The implementation results show the good performances of the overhead crane system controlled by these controllers. The speed adjustment effects and fast rejection of the disturbance effect occurred at the input force of the trolley are also shown by the experimental results. © 2008 SICE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, A DSP-based modified slip energy recovery drive using a 12-pulse converter and shunt chopper for a speed control system of a wound rotor induction motor(2008-05-01) ;Tunyasrirut, Satean ;Ngamwiwit, Jongkol ;Kinnares, Vijit ;Furuya, TadayoshiYamamoto, YoshiichiThis paper introduces a modified slip energy recovery drive system for speed control of a wound rotor induction motor offering improvement of drive performance, particularly line power factor and overall system efficiency. A 12-pulse line commutated thyristor converter operating in an inverter mode in conjunction with an additional IGBT shunt chopper is employed to transfer slip energy back to ac mains supply via three phase transformers. This approach offers motor speed control by varying the duty cycle of the chopper instead of changing the inverter firing angle. As a consequence, supply power factor can be improved. The servo state feedback designed by linear quadratic regulator (LQR) with observer is also included in order to keep motor speed to be constant over a certain range of operating conditions by using the estimated dc link current derived from motor speed. The advantage of this technique is absence of current transducers for current feedback control loop. The overall control system is implemented on DSP, DS1104'TMS320F240 controller board. Experimental results are illustrated in order to validate performance of the proposed system. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, I-PD and PD controllers designed by CRA for overhead crane system(2007-12-01) ;Sridokbuap, Wanlop ;Nundrakwang, Songmoung ;Benjanarasuth, Taworn ;Ngamwiwit, JongkolKomine, NoriyukiAn overhead crane system controlled by an I-PD controller incorporating with PD controller is presented in this paper. The characteristic ratio assignment method is employed to design the I-PD controller and the PD controller for controlling the position of trolley and for controlling the load swing angle of the overhead crane system, respectively. Using the concept of characteristic ratio assignment method, the speed of the step response can also be increased by using a design factor k. The simulation results show that the step response can reach to the desired position without overshoot and with small load swing angle. The slightly change of the step responses when changing the parameters of the overhead crane system are also shown. The simulation results also show that when the speed of the step response is increased, the load swing angle is large related to the speed increased while the disturbance effect rejection is fast. © ICROS. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Improvement of slip energy recovery drives with voltage source inverter for a speed control of wound rotor induction motors(2007-12-01) ;Tunyasrirut, Satean ;Ngamwiwit, Jongkol ;Kinnares, Vijit ;Furuya, TadayoshiYamamoto, YoshiichiThis paper introduces the improvement of slip energy recovery drives with voltage source inverter for a speed control of wound rotor induction motors in order to reduce harmonics of input line current waveforms and improve its power factor. A boost chopper is used to connect the diode rectifier to DC link voltage, which is composed of a capacitor and voltage source inverter type space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM). This scheme leads to be able to adjust the speed of the motor by the duty cycle of the chopper. The PI cascade controller is also introduced to control a speed to be constant when the load varies. An overview of the experimental test bench that the results are presented is three-fold. The first is the harmonics of input line current waveforms are reduced, the second power factor of the drive with VSI are improved and the third presented for a design PI controller for control a speed, where step change loading and unloading transients.
