Our natural environment and ecological system has recently become an alarming global concern due to the increase in worldwide pollution levels. Identifying individual wildlife is essential for understanding population and conservation planning. This paper takes this problem into account which focuses on the sea turtle. Traditionally, sea turtle individuals are identified through the application of external flipper tags or internal passive integrated transponders. However, such devices might be lost. This paper proposes a method to perform sea turtle identification using image recognition technique. This idea could be possible because each sea turtle has a unique postorbital facial pattern. To avoid light condition and color problem, we create a mesh of facial pattern, and use it as an image for matching process. The proposed method uses a modification of SIFT feature extraction technique to extract feature vector from the input facial image. The modification of SIFT is proposed to increase robustness against affine transform. The Euclidean distance with Optimize Random Sample Algorithm is used to calculate the matching score. According to the experimental result, the overall accuracy is 99.92%, which shows the good performance of our method.

A novel direct manipulation technique for motion-editing using a timeline-based interface
    (2018-01-01)

Recently, motion data is becoming increasingly available for creating computer animation. Motion capture is one of the systems that can generate such motion data. However, it is not suitable to capture a lot of motion due to the cost of motion capture technique, and the difficulty of its postprocessing. This paper presents a timeline-based motion-editing system that enables users to perform motion-editing tasks easily and quickly. A motion sequence is summarized and displayed in the 3D environment as a set of editable icons. Users can edit the motion data by performing a sequence of operations on a single key frame or over an interval. The recorded sequence is then propagated automatically to a set of target key frames or intervals, which can be either user defined or system defined. In addition, we provide a simple interaction method for manipulating the duration of specific intervals in the motion data. Methods for combining and synchronizing two different motions are also provided in this system. In contrast with the previous work that allows only temporal editing, the proposed system provides editing functions for both geometry and temporal editing. We describe a user study that demonstrated the efficiency of the proposed system.

A tangible interface for 3D character animation using augmented reality technology
    (2017-02-23)

Nowadays, several systems have been proposed to reduce the difficulty of computer animation authoring. The 3D motion capture system could be used to record the motion data from real actors. The recorded motion could be used to drive an animation. Although this technique reduces the difficulty of computer animation, a user still needs to interact with 3D environment through mouse and keyboard which are 2D interface devices. This paper presents a novel interaction technique for 3D character animation control. A user does not need to interact with typical mouse and keyboard to control an animation, but interacts with a tangible object attached with several visible markers. Our system exploits a benefit of the Augmented Reality technology. The user could see the character movement on the screen of his/her tablet that records the tangible objects by its camera. The user could also move that tangible object to move the 3D character. We also use the Augmented Reality to assist the use for animation scene decoration. Our use study confirms that the proposed interaction technique could reduces the difficulty of 3D character animation, and our system could be by everyone.

Recently, there are huge number of researches focusing on development of teaching tools to enhance learning result. However, for some courses, they require a novel system to enhance learning environment. This research focuses on geography course in the use of color and contour lines in height differentiation according to altitude terrain. We implement an augmented reality sandbox to be an interaction terrain simulation learning aid by using sandbox, which show the elevation tint and contour line precisely and correctly based on the geography principle. When a user manipulate the height of sand in the box, the system will calculate the color and contour line that respect to the sand automatically. This system allows teacher to have interaction with student to decrease quantitative, but increase qualitative teaching. We conducted a pilot study with several high school students which gave us a good feedback and experimental results. Such results are also shown in this paper to demonstrate our achievement.

The rapid growth of technology allows people to connect easier also through electronic commerce (e-Commerce). E-Commerce provides a great potential to support the user for trading in products or services with computer networks. Electronic payment (e-Payment) was developed to facilitate e-Commerce transactions. In recent years, the government has been trying to push a national e-Payment system in Thailand to aid economic development. This research will investigate the user's willingness to use a national e-Payment system in Thailand. The proposed model was developed by integrating the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) with the task technology fit model (TTF) and Initial trust model (ITM). The contribution of this model will be used to examine the acceptance potential of the national e-payment user in Thailand.

Behaviours of dairy cows reflect their health and emotions. Behavioural analysis by video surveillance is an accepted technique for helping cow-keepers to spot their cows' health problems. To perform a behavioural analysis, the presence and location of the cows need to be detected first. In this study, we used feature point matching method and foreground detection method to detect them. Two experiments were conducted in a dairy farm to detect cows in video frames recorded by a video camera installed over the top of a free-stall barn. A total of 800 frames of recorded cows' activities were captured. True and false positive and negative results were statistically confirmed by t test. We found that the accuracies of the feature point matching and foreground detection methods were 38.55 and 75.95 %, respectively; hence, for our setup, the foreground detection was a better method.

In this paper, we propose a rapid motion retrieval technique using dynamic time warping. The frames of the motions are represented by feature vectors whose elements are integer values. The dimensionality of the feature vectors is reduced by using principal component analysis and the values of vector elements are quantized to two bits. A similarity matrix giving distances between the frames is generated for use by dynamic time warping. Preliminary experiments were conducted to find optimum parameter values by evaluating motion retrieval performance. One important feature of the proposed method is that, if the bit length for the frame representation is fixed, the distance between any two frames in any two motions can be found as an element of the similarity matrix without changing its size, which can achieve rapid motion retrieval via dynamic time warping. Experimental comparison with existing methods demonstrated that our proposed technique can complete retrieval tasks over six times faster than a traditional dynamic time warping method, while achieving almost the same levels of accuracy and computation cost as those for the k-d tree method described in [1]. By using simple and discrete representations of frames, the possibilities of achieving rapid retrieval retaining high retrieval accuracy are explored.

In recent year, healthy is a topic that people concern. It is obviously that eating the food with high amount of calories cause several problems to our health. Recording the amount of calories of the food intake in each meal is one of the stretchy to solve such problem. Although the people can record their meal and discuss with doctors or experts, it is not so convenient and they cannot know the amount of calories before the meal. This paper presents a technique of image processing to recognize images of food taken by users. From the input food images, the users can understand the amount of calories they will take in each meal by using the proposed algorithm. Our method creates feature vector using several features about texture and color, then classify the food images using SVM. In this study, we focused on Thai food. To train the SVM, we group the example food images by food type and the amount of calories. We conduct the experiment to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm for both groups of example food.

An intuitive user interface for motion retrieval on a mobile multi-touch device

This paper proposes a technique that allows novice users to retrieve motions using a mobile multi-touch device. A user first inputs a motion that he wants to obtain by manipulating a part of a character skeleton with multiple fingers. The proposed system automatically retrieves a couple of candidate motions from a motion database and visualizes them to the user. He selects one of them and manipulates a different part of the skeleton. Then the system generates a new motion by synthesizing multiple motion data retrieved through different parts of skeleton manipulations. By manipulating skeletons and retrieving motions iteratively, the user can obtain his desired motion in an efficient and easy manner. A pilot study has been conducted using the proposed system to clarify problems to be solved and functions to be improved.
