Item type:Publication, Physicochemical quality improvement of ready cook baby corns using calcium propionate immersion(2020-07-01) ;Promyou, S. ;Chimsonthorn, V. ;Kijka, C.Supapvanich, S.The effect of calcium propionate (Ca-propionate) on physicochemical quality changes of ready cook baby corn (Zea mays L.) during storage was investigated. It was found that Ca-propionate treatment retarded the loss of texture which was concomitant with the lower EDTA-soluble pectin and higher Na<inf>2</inf>CO<inf>3</inf> soluble pectin concentrations compared to untreated baby corns. Ca-propionate treatment did not obviously affect total sugars content, antioxidant activity and free radical scavenging activity compared to untreated samples. However, Ca-propionate treatment induced bioactive compounds such as total phenols, flavonoids and ascorbic acid contents of ready cook baby corns during storage. Therefore, Ca-propionate immersion is an alternative improving quality especially texture and nutritional values of ready cook baby corns during cold storage. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Effects of hot water incorporated with salicylic acid dips on postharvest quality of 'Holland' papaya fruit during storage(2020-04-22) ;Supapvanich, S. ;Boonyaritthongchai, P. ;Promyou, S.Wong-Aree, C.The aim of this work was to determine the effects of quarantine hot water incorporated with salicylic acid (SA+H) dip on postharvest quality of 'Holland' papaya fruit during cold storage at 8±1°C, followed by 1 day at room temperature (31±2°C). Skin damage, fruit decay, firmness, total soluble solids (TSS)/total acid (TA) content, tissue electrolyte leakage and skin and flesh color were monitored. The fruits dipped with 4 mM SA+H had severe skin damage since after treatment. The hot water (H) dip, 1 and 2 mM SA+H prevented fruit skin damage and decay. Both H and SA+H treatments delayed fruit softening and the increase in TSS/TA ratio when compared to the untreated fruits. The fruit treated with 2 mM SA+H had the highest firmness. The electrolyte leakage of both skin and flesh of the untreated and fruit treated with 4 mM SA+H was higher than other treatments. Two mM SA+H dip effectively delayed the skin greenness reduction and yellowness increase. Both H and SA+H dips did not affect the fruit flesh color. In conclusion, 2 mM SA+H dip is an alternative maintaining postharvest quality of 'Holland' papaya fruit during the storage. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Combinative Effect of Salicylic Acid Immersion and UV-C Illumination on Chilling Injury-Related Factors of Longan (Dimocarpus longan Lour.) Fruit(2020-04-02) ;Promyou, S.Supapvanich, S.The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of salicylic acid (SA) immersion incorporated with UV-C irradiation alleviating chilling injury (CI) of longan fruit cv. “E-Dor”. The fruit were immersed in 2 mM SA for 1 hour and then illuminated under UV-C light at the dose of 4.4 kJ·m<sup>−2</sup> (SA + UV-C), and the untreated fruit were used as control. All treatments were held at 4°C and 90 ± 2% relative humidity for 8 days. The determined parameters were browning score of skin and electrolyte leakage (EL), lipoxygenase (LOX) activities, malondialdehyde (MDA) contents, fatty acid contents, and free radical scavenging activities of both skin and flesh fruit. SA + UV treatment apparently delayed and lowered skin browning incidence by preventing the increases in EL, LOX activity, and MDA content, induced the ratio of unsaturated fatty acids per saturated fatty acid content, and maintained free radical scavenging activity. The treatment also lowered EL and LOX activity and maintained free radical scavenging activity of the fruit flesh during cold storage. These indicated that the use of SA + UV-C is an effective alternative preventing skin browning caused by CI of longan fruit during cold storage. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Effects of salicylic acid immersion on physicochemical quality of Thai papaya fruit 'Kaek Dam' during storage(2016-02-29) ;Promyou, S.Supapvanich, S.This study addressed the effects of salicylic acid (SA) immersion on physicochemical quality of a Thai papaya fruit 'Kaek Dam' during refrigerated storage. Ripening index (RI), total soluble solids (TSS), peel and flesh colour (L∗ and hue values), firmness, electrolyte leakage (EL), pectin substances (total, EDTA-soluble and Na<inf>2</inf>CO<inf>3</inf>-soluble pectins), antioxidant capacity and total phenols of the fruit immersed in 0, 1.0 and 2.0 mM SA were monitored. SA had no effect on the changes in colour and total pectin content but significantly delayed the increases in RI, TSS, softening, EL, EDTA- and Na<inf>2</inf>CO<inf>3</inf>-soluble pectins during storage (P≤0.05). The papaya fruit immersed in 2 mM SA showed the best in delaying the loss of firmness and enhancing antioxidant capacity and total phenols. Thus, this study shows that SA immersion maintains postharvest quality and enhances bioactive compounds of the papaya fruit during storage. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Physicochemical changes in ‘kaew kamin’ mango fruit illuminated with ultraviolet-C (UV-C) during storage(2016-01-01) ;Promyou, S.Supapvanich, S.The effects of UV-C illumination at the dosage of 6.6 kJ m<sup>-2</sup> on postharvest quality of mango fruit cv. ‘Kaew Kamin’ during storage at 25 or 12°C were investigated. The changes in fresh weight, texture, Ripening Index (RI), peel and pulp colours, visual appearance, Total Carotenoids (TC) and Ascorbic Acid (AsA) content were determined on days 0, 4, 8, 12 and 16 of storage. UV-C irradiation effectively maintained the fruit firmness and delayed the increase in RI and the loss of peel greenness over storage. No treatment had any effects on pulp yellowness over storage. The incorporation of UV-C illumination and refrigerated storage (12°C) prevented postharvest disease and maintained nutritional values such as TC and AsA content. In conclusion, UV-C irradiation appears an effective alternative approach to maintain postharvest quality and nutritional values and to extend shelf-life of ‘Kaew Kamin’ mango fruit.
