Item type:Publication, Development of Shuttle-Tram Tracking System using IoT and Comparing of Map localization using Google APIs and Custom Map(2025-01-01) ;Thothong, Thirasit ;Anuwongpinit, Thanavit ;Sarikprueck, Piampoom ;Ta, KusonWilasuwan, ThanapatThis paper presents the development of an Internet of Things (IoT)-based Transit Tracking System. At the Faculty of Engineering, King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, a public transportation system has been developed to facilitate transit around the campus using shuttle cars. Shuttle stations are placed along the routes, and cars run every 10-15 minutes. However, the problem of users not knowing the precise location and arrival time of each shuttle arose. To solve this, a transit tracking system was developed using IoT technology. IoT devices were installed on each vehicle to monitor their real-time locations. The data is collected via GPS and transmitted over the 4G network to a server, then stored in a database and displayed on a website in real-time using React. To reduce costs, a custom map was developed using the Leaflet library as an alternative to the Google Maps API. Testing within the Faculty of Engineering showed that the designed IoT system could transmit data successfully, with a performance of a custom map close to that of the Google Maps API, while also significantly reducing costs. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Guest Editorial Advances in Energy Conversion, Control, Operation and Planning Towards Self-Sustained Highway Transportation Energy System(2024-01-01) ;Ding, Zhaohao ;Dehghanian, Payman ;He, Jiangbiao ;Fang, SidunIllindala, MaheshAs a major components of modern transportation systems, the highway transportation system is one of the most significant carbon emission contributors in the entire transportation sector. Although there are numerous distributed renewable resources along the highway system, their diversified inherent characteristics and heterogeneous operational conditions present challenges to fully utilize those clean energy resources for the highway transportation system. Towards the carbon neutrality targets, it is important to investigate the integrated multi-energy conversion, control, operation and planning for the self-sustained highway transportation system from an energy-transportation nexus perspective. Therefore, the coordinated interaction of the various components of the highway transportation energy system becomes essential. This entails not only advancements in energy conversion technologies but also the development of intelligent control systems, sustainable operational models, and forward-thinking planning to enable self-sustained energy ecosystems along the highway. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Environmental Impact Assessment of Lead-Acid and Lithium-ion Battery Waste Management in Thailand(2024-01-01) ;Morawan, Nattaya ;Mungkhala, Issariya ;Attaphong, Chodchanok ;Katers, JohnSarikprueck, PiampoomThis study used material flow analysis and life cycle impact assessment to evaluate the management of lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries in Thailand in 2022. Four scenarios were designed, employing two methods: landfilling and material recovery. Landfilling lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries showed significant negative environmental impacts. Lead recovery for lead-acid batteries waste also had negative impacts due to slag generation. However, metal recovery of lithium-ion battery waste, which recovered lithium carbonate and cobalt carbonate, demonstrated positive environmental outcomes. When comparing the two methods, landfilling was preferable for lead-acid batteries, whereas metal recovery was better for lithium-ion batteries. These findings provide essential information for battery management guidelines in Thailand and indicate that future research should explore additional methods and their economic aspect. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Phase stability, fuel properties, and diesel engine performance of palm-oil-based microemulsion biofuels(2023-05-01) ;Attaphong, Chodchanok ;Morawan, Nattaya ;Sarikprueck, Piampoom ;Charoensaeng, AmpiraKhaodhiar, SuthaMicroemulsification and blending are two viscosity-modifying techniques of vegetable oils for direct use with diesel engine. In this study, alcohol blends are mixtures of ethanol, diesel, and palm-oil biodiesel while microemulsion biofuels are thermodynamically stable, clear, and single-phase mixtures of diesel, palm oil, and ethanol stabilized by surfactants and cosurfactants. Although there are many studies on biofuels lately, there is limited research on using biodiesel as a surfactant in microemulsion formulations and applied on engine performance at different engine loads. Therefore, the objectives are to investigate phase stability and fuel properties of formulated biofuels (various blends and microemulsions), to determine the engine performance at different engine loads (no load, and from 0.5 to 2.0 kW), and to estimate laboratory-scale cost of the selected biofuels compared to diesel and biodiesel. The results showed that phase stability and fuel properties of selected microemulsion biofuels are comparable to diesel and biodiesel. These microemulsion biofuels can be applied to the diesel engine at different loads while diesel-ethanol blends and palm-oil-biodiesel-ethanol blends cannot be. It was found that the energy efficiencies of the system using microemulsion biofuels were slightly lower than the average energy efficiency of diesel engine. From this study, it can be summarized that microemulsion biofuels can be formulated using palm-oil biodiesel (palm-oil methyl ester) as a bio-based surfactant and they can be considered as environmentally-friendly alternatives to diesel and biodiesel. However, cost considerations showed that the raw materials should be locally available to reduce additional costs of microemulsion biofuels. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, A Novel Technique to Identify Proper Locations for Distributed Renewable Generation Integration to Minimize Contingency Impact(2020-07-01) ;Wannoi, Narumon ;Jirsuwankul, Nirudh ;Sarikprueck, Piampoom ;Chompooinwai, ChaiWannoi, Chaisitthis paper presents a novel technique to define proper locations for distributed renewable generation (DRG) integration to minimize contingency impact. The contingency (n1) analysis and the repeated power flow technique are used to investigate the Critical Voltage Buses (CVB). Then priority rankings are defined in two considerations, the number of impacts and voltage level at the CVB. The POWERWORLD simulator is used in this study to analyze the modified Thailand power system during peak load period. The results show that the proposed technique can identify the priority CVBs, which are the proper locations for DRG installation. With more DRG installations at the CVBs, the numbers of CVB, generator capacity and power system loss can be decreased and the load demand can be increased. This proposed novel technique can be applied effectively for the power system security enhancement. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, A Study on Induction Motor Efficiency Improvement for Implementing in Electric Vehicle(2018-11-27) ;Lumyong, PichitSarikprueck, PiampoomAmong various types of electric motor, selecting an induction motor for electric vehicle (EV) is still being discussed. Efficiency and weight of induction motor are two significant disadvantages compared to other motors. To solve these two concerns, this paper proposes a study to effectively improve induction motor efficiency and its power density. The stator winding of proposed three phase induction motor is rewound by decreasing number of turn and by increasing stator coil size. This proposed motor is suitable for EV driven by inverter in high speed operation which the rated power of this motor is approximately two times more than that of its original. As the results, the motor efficiency is improved since its total loss is slightly increased. In addition, as an increasing twice of rated motor power approximately with the same motor weight, the power density of the proposed motor is also enhanced. Three sizes of three-phase inductor motor including 0.75, 2.25, and 3.7 kW are tested to illustrate the proposed approach in this study. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Magnetization of NdFeB Permanent Magnet Considering Demagnetization Effect(2018-11-27) ;Sarikprueck, Piampoom ;Lumyong, Pichit ;Niroiana, Chamakorn NaAttaphong, ChodchanokElectrical machine efficiency improvement has been paid more attention over the past years. Using Permanent Magnets (PMs) in various modern electrical machines is one of the most favorable approaches to increase machine efficiency. However, PMs still have a significant disadvantage that is the demagnetization issue. Therefore, these demagnetized PMs need to magnetize for regaining their initial capability considering the demagnetization level. Therefore, first of all, this paper proposes the demagnetization behavior of NdFeB PMs due to thermal effect. Then, these PMs are magnetized using a proposed simple magnetizing technique considering various demagnetization conditions. Finally, the results indicate that the most complete demagnetized PMs are able to significantly recover to their initial capability.
