The quantum key reconciliation is an essential step of QKD protocol. Its main objective is to correct the transmission error after the distribution of quantum objects over a quantum channel, where two legitimate parties use a classical interactive communication for agreeing on their common key. This paper presents an alternative quantum key reconciliation method based on the Slepian-Wolf coding scheme with the chosen optimal set of BCH code rates as close to the Slepian-Wolf bound. In the proposed scheme, the BCH decoder is modified by adding one-bit feedback based on syndrome decoding to detect uncorrectable errors whenever the decoding process fails. The performance evaluation of this proposed scheme can achieve the reconciliation efficiency and reduce the cost of interactive communication via an error-free public channel comparable to the well-known reconciliation protocols. It is then suitable to apply for higher-speed discrete-variable QKD applications. © 2012 IEEE.

The quantum key reconciliation is an essential step of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) systems for correcting error in the raw keys which happens after the transmission over a quantum channel, where two legitimate parties make their correlated bits identical by exchanging messages over the public channel. This paper presents an alternative method for error correction of quantum key reconciliation by using 1/2-rate convolutional code, a class of forward error correcting (FEC) on Winnow for discrete-variable QKD protocol. The convolutional code can be applied to source coding with a side information problem which uses to describe quantum key reconciliation process. In the proposed scheme, it focuses on the performance evaluation of 1/2-rate convolutional code in quantum key reconciliation. In order to reduce an amount of interactive communication via error-free public channel for high-speed QKD applications, this proposed method is that the suitable solution. ©2010 IEEE.

This paper proposes a hybrid ring coupler quasi-optical antenna-mixer for mitigating local oscillator retransmission. By demonstrating at K-band, the antenna element consists of back-to-back aperture coupled inverted square patch antenna to couple the RF signal at 18.8 GHz to the sigma port of a hybrid ring mixer while the LO signal at 17.5 GHz is coupled to the delta port. The HSCH-9101 Schottky diodes are used to transform the RF signal to the intermediate frequency signal at 1.3 GHz. The results show that the RF/LO isolation is better than 29 dB at 18.19 GHz, and the isotropic conversion loss of the down converted signal is better than 16 dB at 19.25 GHz. The application of the interest is an inverse measurement technique for dielectric property determination. © 2007 Elsevier GmbH. All rights reserved.

This paper presents the simplified method of random test suite based on the frequency (block) test. The test is used to check the first property of random numbers which is to have the same probabilities of being "1" and "0". Random numbers are used for the secret key generation which is an essential part for cryptographic system. Before encryption, secret keys need to pass the random test in order to make it harder for outsiders to predict the pattern of the secret keys. Basically, the decision making of whether the secret keys are truly random, is based on the test statistics computation. Due to the motivation that the classical method based on the NIST Statistical Test Suite (NIST STS) is complex and redundant, the reduction of this random testing procedure is then proposed. The introduced technique does not need to compute the Incomplete Gamma Function (Igamc) nor the P-value for the decision making of test results unlike that of the classical method. Thus, it results to the reduction in the testing decision time. In this technique, the decision making and conclusion can be determined from the critical value of chi-square (x 2) directly. Its results without having to compute Igamc is compared to that of the classical method. In the test, the significance level (α) is set to be 0.01 or 0.05 in order to obtain the critical values and the critical regions. Resulting to the confidence of 99% or 95% respectively. Next, overall performance is evaluated by computing the percentage difference in order to demonstrate that the proposed value gives the same result as that of the classical method. Therefore, this proposed technique can be applied as that of the conventional based on the frequency (block) test. © 2008 IEEE.

A multibeam antenna could be designed without using a complicated feeding system by using quasi-optical antenna-mixers. Accurate beam directions could be obtained when practical antenna patterns was taken into account in the design. The effectiveness of a three-beam antenna is demonstrated at K-band showing accurate beam directions which is very useful in modern wireless communications. © 2007 Elsevier GmbH. All rights reserved.

Due to Imperfection In quantum key distribution (QKD) an uncorrected secret key transmitted via quantum channel exists at the receiver side. This paper presents an alternative method to recover those quantum key by using BCH codes - a class of error control coding (ECC). Application of BCH codes to source coding with side information is described for quantum key reconciliation. Unlikely to many previous protocols, the proposed scheme aims to reduce public communication with acceptable quantum bit error rate and a number of disclosed bits; therefore, it is suitable to applications of high speed QKD. © 2007 IEEE.
