Item type:Publication, AOMDV with sufficient bandwidth aware(2010-11-19) ;Wannawilai, PattanaSathitwiriyawong, ChanboonMulti-path routing protocols for MANET are deemed superior over conventional single-path routing protocols as the former reduce end-to-end delay, increase reliability and provide robustness. However, the shortest path routes resulting from shortest multi-path routing, such as AOMDV, cause the area congested and thus its effectiveness is decreased. This paper proposes a novel Ad hoc On-demand Multipath Distance Vector with Sufficient Bandwidth Aware (AOMDV+SBA) routing protocol which significantly improves the performance of the original AOMDV routing protocol by discovering better routes to avoid congestion. The ns-2 simulation results illustrate the improvement of network performance and stability by reducing data packet delay and power consumption and increasing packet delivery ratio, under medium to high traffic load. Moreover, in case of low-to-medium traffic load, its performance is close to the original AOMDV routing protocol and the quality of its properties is maintained. © 2010 IEEE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, AODV with sufficient bandwidth aware routing protocol(2010-08-06) ;Wannawilai, PattanaSathitwiriyawong, ChanboonCongestion is a major problem in mobile ad hoc network (MANET) which causes long delay and significant loss of data packets, and increases the routing overhead and battery power consumption. The shortest path route seldom offers the optimal route, especially when it traverses the congested area of the mobile network. This paper proposes a novel AODV with Sufficient Bandwidth Aware (AODV+SBA) routing protocol which significantly improves the performance of on-demand routing protocols by discovering better routes to avoid congestion and reducing excessive routing overhead. The ns-2 simulation results illustrate the improvement of network performance and stability by reducing data packet delay and routing overhead and increasing packet delivery ratio, under high traffic load. Moreover, in case of low-to-medium traffic load, its performance is close to the popular AODV routing protocol and the quality of its properties is maintained. Item type:Publication, A comparative study of random waypoint and Gauss-Markov mobility models in the performance evaluation of MANET(2006-12-01) ;Ariyakhajorn, Jinthana ;Wannawilai, PattanaSathitwiriyawong, ChanboonA mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a network consisting of a set of wireless mobile nodes that communicate with each other without centralized control or established infrastructure. The mobility model represents the moving behavior of each mobile node (MN) in the MANET that should be realistic. It is a crucial part in the performance evaluation of MANET. Random Waypoint mobility model is the only mobility model that has been widely used in the simulation study of MANET despite some unrealistic movement behaviors such as sudden stop and sharp turn. Whilst Gauss-Markov mobility model has been proved that it can solve both of these problems. This paper presents a comparative simulation study of Random Waypoint and Gauss-Markov mobility models on the performance study of MANET that uses Ad-hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) as the routing protocol. The results show that both mobility models are not different in case each MN is moving at human running speed. Therefore, it is suggested to use Random Waypoint mobility model because of its less computational overhead comparing to Gauss-Markov mobility model. When the speed of MNs is as high as fast automobiles, the performance result using Random Waypoint mobility model is significant different from Gauss-Markov mobility model. Therefore, Gauss-Markov mobility model should be used instead. Moreover, different levels of randomness setting have no effect on the accuracy of throughput and end-toend delay. © 2006 IEEE.
