Item type:Publication, Effect of growth regulator on shoot induction from protocorm of Dendrobium Anna(2020-12-01) ;Anuchai, J.Sasiangdee, A.Result showed that after 8 weeks of culture, treatment which supplemented with BA 2 mg/l was revealed to be suitable as a medium in tissue culture of Dendrobium. It showed the highest number of shoot (19.6 shoots), shoot length (1.30 cm), fresh weight (1.82 g), dry weight (0.28 g), chlorophyll A and chlorophyll B (0.19 and 0.11 mg/g FW, respectively) in treatment which supplemented with BA 2 mg/l. Total non-structural carbohydrate (TNC) showed the highest value in treatment which supplemented with NAA 0.5 and BA 0 mg/l (5.54 mg/FW). Therefore, the supplemented with BA 2 mg/l enhanced shoot induction of Dendrobium from protocorm culture and recommended for commercial production. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Changes of cut orchid quality after fumigation with clove and cinnamon essential oils(2015-03-25) ;Pumnuan, J.; Insung, A.Clove and cinnamon essential oils have been recently considered as effective alternative fumigants against thrips and mealybug, which are the major pests infecting exported orchid cut flowers in many countries. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate effects of clove and cinnamon essential oils in non-targeted fumigation on Dendrobium orchid cut flower. Changes in L∗, a∗ and b∗ values, weight loss, polyphenoloxidase (PPO) activity, total phenolics and anthocyanin content were determined. All fumigations in this study were conducted using the essential oils at the concentrations of 0.0, 3.0 and 6.0 ml/m3 for 1 h with 15-min air circulation in 1-m3 glass chambers. The effects of eugenol under the same conditions were examined. The samples were evaluated prior to the treatments, immediately after the treatments, and 3 d after the treatments at 25±1°C. The results showed a decrease of L∗ and a∗ values, and anthocyanin content in all groups, while b∗ value, percentage of weight loss and total phenolic content increased. PPO activity did not change throughout the sampling period. Remarkably, the orchids fumigated with clove and cinnamon essential oils, and eugenol at 3.0 ml/m3 did not differ from the control. However, fumigations at 6.0 ml/m3 reduced flower quality, leading to increased weight loss and petal discoloration.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Ethylene-sensitive and ethylene-insensitive abscission in Dendrobium: Correlation with polygalacturonase activity(2011-04-01); ;Ketsa, Saicholvan Doorn, Wouter G.We previously showed that the abscission of floral buds of the orchid Dendrobium cv. Miss Teen was absent in controls but highly promoted by ethylene, whilst open flowers also did not abscise without ethylene but were not responsive to ethylene. Here, we determined the activities of three enzymes in the abscission zone (AZ): polygalacturonase (PG), β-1,4-glucanase (cellulase), and pectin methylesterase (PME). In the AZ of floral buds an increase in PG activity coincided with the ethylene-induced abscission. A small increase was found in the AZ β-1,4-glucanase (cellulase) activity, shortly after the end of ethylene treatment of the flower buds and a few days before the onset of abscission. The activity of pectin methylesterase (PME) in the AZ of floral buds was not affected by ethylene. In the AZ of flowers that had just opened no increase in enzyme activity was observed after ethylene treatment. The data indicate a role of PG, and possibly of β-1,4-glucanase, in abscission. The data also suggest that the reason for the decrease in ethylene sensitivity of the abscission zone, during flower opening, lies upstream from the induction of enzyme activity in the AZ. © 2010 Elsevier B.V.3
