    The presented research introduces a novel approach to modern modular active device and provides various practical application examples tailored for industrial sensing readouts. Straightforward implementation of single active device-based topologies in frequency bands from kHz up to MHz is presented. These applications include: an electronically linearly tunable special band-pass filter that can be easily modified into a voltage-controlled oscillator, a two-port quadratic transformer, an amplitude modulator, and an equalization circuit (which serves as a fractional-order differentiator and integrator). These circuits benefit from high-impedance voltage input and low-impedance output (easily matched to 50 Ω), high processed signal levels (often reaching hundreds of mV), and simplified topologies without redundant passive elements. These features are especially valuable in tunable and configurable solutions for modern communication, sensing, audio, and consumer electronic systems, as well as in modeling various physical and biological systems. The experiments have been provided by simulations and measurements using device VCA824.

    Optimal neuro-fuzzy equalizers for nonlinear channels of the perpendicular magnetic recording system
    (2021-01-01)
    Wongsathan, Rati
    ;
    Nonlinear distortions caused by partial erasure and nonlinear transition shifts interacting with inter-symbol interference, are a major hindrance to data storage systems, since they degrade detector performance. This work aims to design and optimize the neuro-fuzzy equalizer (NFE) using the multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) to detect nonlinear high-density magnetic recording (MR) channels. Through the GA-assisted back-propagation algorithm and least mean square optimization, the complexity in terms of decision rules is reduced by 25% and significantly provides 65% lower signal processing computation. When applied to the perpendicular (MR) system, the proposed NFE outperforms existing equalizers such as the neural network-based equalizer, fuzzy logic equalizer, and conventional NFE for the Volterra and jitter media noise channels using 1-3 dB and 1.5-3.5 dB signalto-noise ratio gains at the bit-error-rate of 10−4, respectively. Furthermore, compared to the other models, the NFE provides a more effective output mean square error performance for retrieving the original bit data.

    Gain equalizer approximation by using q-Bessel polynomials
    (2015-04-22) ;
    Janchitrapongvej, Kanok
    A linear slope gain equalizer with MAXFLAT delay is presented based on using q-Bessel polynomials. As it is known that the q-Bessel polynomial has more parameter to adjust than does the simple Bessel polynomials. The proposed gain equalizer has the important features; maximally flat group delay, non-minimum phase network, and transmission zeros possess quadrant symmetry. The simulation is carried out to investigate the performance of the proposed equalizer. As the result, the proposed gain equalizer can correct both low-gain distortion and high-gain distortion and agrees with the theoretical ones.

    This paper described the design of generalized partial-response (GPR) target and its corresponding equalizer for perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) read channel with jitter noise. In this design the readback signal model uses transition response that its parameter is calculated based on media properties and reader head geometry specifically designed for 1 Tb/in 2 areal density. The GPR targets with various lengths are designed using minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) approach. The simulation results show that the BER performance of the system degrades as the ratio of jitter noise power to total noise power increases. According to these results GPR2 with 7-tap equalizer offers the optimal tradeoff between system performance and circuit implementation. copyright © 2008 IEICE.
