Item type:Publication, ZnSO4 spraying affects the growth and phytochemicals of Chinese kale microgreens(2023-01-01) ;Tantharapornrerk, Naruchon ;Photchanachai, Songsin ;Boonyaritthongchai, PanidaTechavuthiporn, ChairatChinese kale microgreens are gaining interest for its phytochemical compounds and anti-cancer properties mainly from glucosinolates. Zinc is an essential for plant growth and is involved with phytochemicals accumulation. This study investigated the different concentration of ZnSO<inf>4</inf> on the enhancement of the phytochemicals and quality of Chinese kale microgreens. Three-day-old seedlings were sprayed with 2 and 4 mM of ZnSO<inf>4</inf> until harvesting on days 4, 5, 6 and 7. ZnSO<inf>4</inf> significantly decreased the fresh weight of 6 and 7-day-old microgreens and dry weight on the 7th day. The total glucosinolates, total phenolic compounds and total ascorbic acid, gradually rose as the age of microgreens increased. When the 3-day-old microgreens were sprayed at 6, 12 and 18 mM, the fresh and dry weight and hypocotyl length of 7-day-old microgreens significantly decreased as the concentration increases. ZnSO<inf>4</inf> at 18 mM was the most effective in enhancing phytochemicals, resulting in increased DPPH radical scavenging activity and ferric reducing antioxidant power. This concentration also induced phenylalanine ammonia lyase activity resulting to an increase in total phenolic compounds. Moreover, ZnSO<inf>4</inf> at 18 mM induced H<inf>2</inf>O<inf>2</inf> content but are sufficiently countered with the increase in antioxidant enzymes namely superoxide dismutase, catalase, and ascorbate peroxidase. In conclusion, the 3-day-old microgreen was the most effective age for the start of the daily spraying of ZnSO<inf>4</inf> before harvesting at 7-day-old. Higher concentrations of ZnSO<inf>4</inf> (6-18 mM) enhanced the phytochemical compounds and enzymatic antioxidant activities but reduced growth. In contrast, lower concentration (< 4 mM) only improved microgreens growth. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Nanocarbon induced modifications in morpho-physiopgical characteristics in rice plants [oryza sativa l. cv. black jasmine rice (Hom-nin)](2020-01-01) ;Samart, SutichaiChutipaijit, SuteeThe aim of this research was to evaluate the potential application of nanocarbon in plant growth and physiological responses in rice plants. This research was designed to evaluate the effects of different concentration of nanocarbon (0-1,000 mg L-1) on growth characterizations and physiological parameters after 1-4 weeks of nanocarbon-treatment. Induction in the growth performances and contents of photosynthetic pigments (chlorophyll A, chlorophyll B and carotenoids), antioxidant enzyme activities (catalase and peroxidase) and flavonoids was observed in the rice plants after treated with nanocarbon. The results showed that nanocarbon promoted the plant growth in rice plants cv. Black jasmine rice or Hom-nin by increasing the shoot lengths and dry weights. The significant increase of shoot length and dry weight were found in 200 and 600 mg L-1 nanocarbontreatments. Additionally, the high contents of photosynthetic pigment concentrations in treated-plants showed significant difference at 600 mg L-1 nanocarbon compared to the control (0 mg L-1 nanocarbon). The antioxidant activities of catalase and peroxidase enzymes in nanocarbon treated-plants were significantly increased compared to the control. Furthermore, the induction of flavonoid contents in treated-plants was increased by 200 and 600 mg L-1 nanocarbon. The results suggested that nanocarbon able to promote the biomass and has benefit to increase the photosynthetic pigments and antioxidant enzymes for plant growth performances. This research provided plant growth and physiological responses evidence on the beneficial effect of nanocarbon in rice plants, especially Black jasmine rice or Hom-nin cultivar. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Assessment of antioxidant enzymes in response to exogenous titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles in Chainat 1 rice cultivar(2018-01-01) ;Samart, Sutichai ;Phakamas, NittayaChutipaijit, SuteeAntioxidant enzymes are important to prevent the destruction of photosynthetic pigments in plant cells. There have been reported that ZnO nanoparticles can promote activities of antioxidant enzymes in rice, but should not use in high activities because it can cause toxicity. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate the effect of titanium dioxide (TiO<inf>2</inf>) nanoparticles on the activities of antioxidant enzymes in Chainat 1 rice cultivar. Rice plants were treated with TiO<inf>2</inf> nanoparticles using different concentrations i.e., 0, 100, 200, 400, 600 and 800 mg.L-1 for every 7 days-interval. Photosynthetic pigment contents (chlorophyll A, chlorophyll B and carotenoid) and activities of antioxidant enzymes (catalase and peroxidase) were recorded at 37, 44 and 51 days after planting. The results showed that the treatment of TiO<inf>2</inf> nanoparticles was not effect on the quantities of chlorophyll A, chlorophyll B and carotenoids, but found that the activities of peroxidase and catalase enzymes were significant affected at all growth stages. Especially, at a concentration of 200 mg.L-1 TiO<inf>2</inf> found that rice plants contained the highest activities of peroxidase enzyme and significant difference from control treatment. However, the treatments of higher dose than 200 mg.L-1 TiO<inf>2</inf> would have a chance to meet toxicity in rice plants as the activities of antioxidant enzymes were decreased. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Postharvest quality maintenance of longan fruit by ultra violet-C incorporated with salicylic acid application(2017-01-01) ;Suiubon, Sonthaya ;Supapvanich, SuriyanPromyou, SurassawadeeThe purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of salicylic acid (SA) dips incorporated with ultra violet-C (UVC) irradiation on postharvest quality of longan fruit cv. 'Dor' during refrigerated storage at 10°C. The longan fruit were dipped in SA solution at the concentration of 0, 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 mM before irradiated with 6.6 kJ m-2 UVC. Physicochemical quality attributes including peel colour, taste attributes, fruit decay, sensorial qualities and bioactive compounds were monitored. SA dips incorporated with the UVC irradiation maintained the outer peel lightness (L*), total ascorbic acid (TAA) content and crispness score of flesh as well as lowered colour difference (ΔE*) value of outer peel and the reduction total antioxidant capacity (TAC) of the flesh during storage. All treatments did not affect the fruit taste attributes including total soluble solids (TSS), total acidity (TA) and TSS/TA ratio. The fruit dipped with 2.0 and 3.0 mM SA incorporated with the UVC irradiation effectively delayed the fruit decay as well as inhibited off-flavour. The fruit dipped with 2.0 mM SA incorporated with UVC irradiation showed the highest acceptability score and also enhanced the activity of antioxidant enzymes such as ascorbic acid peroxidase (APX), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT).
