This study investigated the impact of Accounting Information Systems (AIS) on performance management in Thailand's banking sector. The study was necessitated by the need to understand the financial performance of banks in Thailand in application of advanced management techniques, business developments, growth of the current contemporary business environment and the intensive competitive business environment in the banking sector. The research used purposive sampling to content analyze the financial statements of six major commercial banks in Thailand from 2011-2019. These banks include the Siam Commercial Bank Public Company Limited, Krung Thai Bank Public Company Limited, Bangkok Bank Public Company Limited, Bank of Ayudhya Public Company Limited, Thanachart Bank Public Company Limited, and Kasikorn Bank Public Company Limited. The study comprised of four independent variables representing the AIS: Total Assets, Operational Assets, Total Liabilities and Earning After-Tax; and one dependent variable of Return on Equity. Correlations and multiple regressions were applied to answer the study hypotheses. The results of the study indicated that Total Assets, Operating Assets and Earnings after Tax have a positive and significant effect on Return on Equity. Additionally, Total Liabilities were found to have a negative and significant relationship with Return on Equity. Overall, the study found that AIS has a significant and positive effect on performance management, and the study recommended that AIS should be considered as a critical aspect if long-term growth in performance management is a business objective of the organization.

Structural equation model of factors affecting Thailand's commercial bank branch expansion

As a result of the 1997 Asian financial crisis, many Thai banks were forced to close. As a result, the Thai financial system and commercial banks required an infusion of capital which in many instances was of foreign nature resulting in foreign investors becoming shareholders in the banks. As a result of t he global financial crisis in 2008, the Bank of Thailand issued 7 directives concerning Basel III capital ratios of local and foreign banks operating in the Kingdom. Also in 2013, major revisions were again released by the Bank of Thailand for the licensing of new foreign commercial banks wishing to operate in the Kingdom. In this environment of dynamic global and regional change, the researchers undertook this study using both quantitative and qualitative research methods from a survey population of commercial bank executives. It was discovered that bank branch expansion was related to both corporate leadership and economic factors. Economic factors also influence leadership in determining strategic plans as well as teamwork in the ability to continue opening new branches. It was noted however that branch cost factors have minor influence on the opening of t he bank because the expectation is that with the increased customers, new customers' fees and charges offset the additional operational overhead. The research noted that marketing with niche technologies such as telephone and Internet affected building relationships with customers and was a relationship marketing tool.

A legal amount, or the word amount, is defined as the expression of a numerical value into words. It is used mostly in monetary documents. Thai legal amounts consist of a set of 17 words of 25 characters. This paper's objective is to develop a system to recognize Thai handwriting legal amounts. The strategies to improve the character recognition rates at the preprocessing and recognition process are discussed including the division of input characters into smaller subgroups: the body and high characters group, using multiple feature combinations and using the classifiers that give answers as a list of possible answers with scores. And at the post processes, we improved overall recognition rate using prior knowledge such as lexicon and syntax. We proposed the concept of partial lexicon matching mainly relying on the recognition results of the body group characters. The syntax verification algorithms are based on the sequences of word types, the joining between word types, and special rules for specific words. Irregular handwriting, i.e., touching and broken characters, are detected. Also holistic word recognition is employed to recognize these characters without explicit character segmentation.
