This trend has shifted the electric authority to focus from fossil fuel to renewable energy. The distributed generation (DG) using a renewable energy source has been raising. The presence of DG can cause using renewable energy sources to cause a technical issue on system protection and operation. This paper aims to study the impact of different DG size installations on the distribution system in terms of the system characteristics. The study is done in both normal conditions and in cases of fault occurrence. The system using in this research is a 22-kV distribution system consists of Wind Power Generation as the DG connected into the distribution line that modeled after part of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) in the northern part of Thailand. The simulation was done using PSCAD software. The result from simulation reveals the impact of DG on the distribution system characteristics in terms of significant change in the measured current and voltage signal. Thus, the analysis of the impact of DG on the system must be done to ensure the reliability of the power system. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

This trend in renewable energy has shifting power generation system from Centralized Generation (CG) to Distributed Generation (DG). With the new power generation on conventional distribution system, Analysis on disturbance must be done to ensure safety and reliability of the system. This paper aim to analyze behavior of transient signal when disturbance occur in distribution system with distributed generation. System under study is 22kV distribution system consist of wind power generation unit. Simulation was done by using PSCAD/EMTP program. The Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) is applied for decomposition of fault signal. To evaluate wavelet characteristic when fault occur in the system, Comparison in case of distribution system with and without wind power generation were done. Result indicated that with distributed generation, fault level is increasing and cause a changing in wavelet signal characteristic. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Impact of multi-distributed generation on key parameter in distribution system(2015-01-01) ;Ananwattanaporn, S.Ngaopitakkul, A.In recent year Distributed generation (DG) has become a point of interest in many countries due to several advantages such as improvement in power reliability, reduction of loss in transmission system, improved efficiency in network and lower environment impact. With this much benefit many networks working on integrate renewable energy source DG to the grid connection. Although it has many advantages, installation of DG in distribution network create several effect on the system. One of major effect is the fault current during a grid disturbance because DG changes the grid contribution to the fault current depending on the penetration level, locations and type of DGs, the operation of the protective system can be affected. In network that already has DG connected installing a new DG in network result in significant chance in fault current. Many research has been done such as effect of connecting DG in distribution network. This paper proposes an impact of multi-DG on distribution system characteristic when fault occur. System under studied is 22-kv distribution network with photovoltaic (PV) array and Wind Power Generation using PSCAD/EMTP program. Key parameter such as System current, voltage were obtained in simulation. Result from simulation reveal that DG has an effect on distribution system characteristic. Obtaining data from research can be used to design protection system for distribution system in the future.
