This study proposed individual spectral wavelengths significant to estimate soluble solids content (SSC) in sugarcane billets moving on the conveyor. At the same time, an all-in-one quality and yield monitor using those wavelengths for a sugarcane harvester was also proposed. Seven wavelengths, 475, 560, 668, 717, 755, 840, and 890 nm, were arranged into three groups for modeling. Group 1, consisting of 475, 560, 668, 717, and 840 nm, was based on the spectral responses of a commercial multispectral camera, while group 2 (717 and 840 nm) was based on the invisible (RedEdge and near-infrared or NIR) responses of the camera. For group 3, two sugar-related wavelengths at 755 and 890 nm were selected as the candidates for modeling. Partial least squares regression (PLSR) was employed to model those three groups with corresponding soluble solids content (SSC). The results showed that the developed models based on two sugar-related wavelengths at 755 and 890 nm provided the best performance, explaining 80.2 % of the variance in the SSC and displaying a root mean square error of calibration (RMSEC) of 0.32 ºBrix. The predictive performance had the root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) of 0.33 ºBrix. This finding confirmed the effectiveness of the sugar wavelengths and conveyed the possibility to develop the sugarcane quality and yield monitor.

This paper describes the operation and control methodology for a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) designed to mitigate the negative impacts of lithium-ion energy storage. The Battery Monitoring System (BMS) provides real time status data of the battery's parameters such as current voltage and temperature in order to prevent energy storage deterioration. The data will be sent through CAN-bus that allows microcontrollers and other devices to communicate with each other in applications without a host computer. A human vital monitoring system using Ad Hoc wireless network is implemented to enhance the healthcare service. Issues related to hardware and software implementation including the data packet format are addressed. The system uses a low cost electrocardiogram (ECG) sensor to monitor patient's vital sign. A sensor node, which is held by the patient, transmits the sensor data via an Ad Hoc wireless network to a gateway. The received data is processed and displayed in a form of graph on a monitoring screen. The system allows medical personal to check the status of patient remotely. Too the system is designed such that, if it detects anomaly signs from the patient, the sensor node can report an alarm to the monitoring screeen so that medical personal can assist the patient immediately. The system is developed using a real-time operating system and deployed an Ad Hoc routing protocol to reroute the packet to the gateway automatically. © 2011 IEEE.

Currently, the HDDs (Hard Disk Drives) from a production line have to pass an operation test in a burn-in chamber. To ensure quality, after an operation period, the burn-in chamber has to be calibrated. The calibration process requires an engineer to manually monitor a temperature at the hybrid temperature recorder connected to the burn-in chamber throughout the entire process. It is a time consuming operation and inefficient process due to a large number of burn-in chambers used in the production line, when comparing with a limited number of engineers. This paper expresses a development of hybrid temperature recorder monitoring system used to improve such the calibration process. There are two main systems involved, i.e., a temperature recording system and a monitoring system. However, the monitoring system is mainly focused in this paper. Also, an object-oriented analysis and design methodology (OOADM) is applied in the development process. The monitoring system interconnects the hybrid temperature recorder through a wireless network to receive the temperatures captured from sensors inside the burn-in chamber. Then, the temperature data is processed and displayed at the central server of system in the engineering office. This could allow the engineer to centrally monitor all hybrid temperature recorders used in the calibration process of burn-in chamber in real-time. The monitoring system can display the alarm signal when the errors occur during the calibration process and sent it to the engineer for alerting as well. Furthermore, the temperature data can be stored in a database at the central server for future reference. ©ICROS.

Currently, the calibration of burn-in chambers used in a HDDs (Hard Disk Drives) production line requires an engineer to manually monitor temperatures at the hybrid temperature recorders throughout the entire period of calibration process. It is a time consuming and inefficient operation, due to a large number of burn-in chambers used in the production line comparing with a limited number of engineers to handle. Therefore, this paper describes the prototype development of hybrid temperature recorder monitoring system implemented to improve the current manual calibration process of burn-in chamber. The work in this paper applies an objectoriented analysis and design methodology (OOADM) in the development process. The proposed system comprises two subsystems, i.e., a temperature recording subsystem and a monitoring subsystem, interconnected through a wireless network. The temperature recording subsystem performs capturing temperatures from sensors inside the burn-in chamber and sending the temperature data to a central server at the monitoring subsystem in the engineering office for monitoring in real-time. When the errors occur during the calibration process, the alarm signal is displayed and sent to the engineer for alerting. Furthermore, the temperature data is stored in a database for future verification and reference. © 2010 IEEE.
