This communication introduces a grounded immittance function simulator. The circuit employs a single differential voltage to current converter (DVTC) in association with three passive elements. The grounded series type RL and RC simulator can be realized by selecting the proper position of all passive elements. The equivalent resistance, inductance, and capacitance accomplished from the proposed circuit can be adjusted with a passive resistor. DVTC non-idealities on the proposed simulator are also discussed in detail. The voltage mode PID controller has been suggested as an application using the proposed simulator. The performance of the proposed simulator and controller applications have been carried out through PSPICE simulation. The results are certified by the theoretical prediction.

This paper designs a model based control system for the heat exchanger system with accumulative heat reservoir. The heat exchanger system was firstly modelled through the set of five differential equations, that also take into account the heat accumulation inside the reservoirs. Temperature data was obtained through the use of a temperature sensor (LM 35) which is connected to LabView through a DAQ. The collected data was then processed using an integral based method to determine the parameters of the heat exchanger system. The appropriate PID gains are selected by pole placement methodology. Results show that the set of PID gains that were determined through the use of calculations outperformed the arbitrary chosen set of gains.

The paper proposes an explicit model predictive control framework for a two-dimensional handheld micromanipulator to track periodical reference paths within microscopic working range and for all holding angles of users' hand. The control objective is to achieve a minimum tracking error and a wide bandwidth. The micromanipulator's design is oriented to such bio cell treatments. Its structure consists of two flexible decoupling links, each of which is driven by the combination of electric coils and permanent magnets as an actuator. In the experiments, the proposed framework is compared with two types of PID controllers, parameters of which are designed by Skogestand's IMC and IMC method based on the underdamped transfer function, respectively. The experimental results exhibit the effectiveness of the two-dimensional handheld micromanipulator controlled by the model predictive control framework over the PID controller ones.

This paper presents a new programmable analog electronic proportional-integral-derivative controller circuit using current conveyor transconductance amplifiers as active elements. Unlike previous works, proportional controller, proportional-integral controller, proportional-derivative controller and proportional-integral-derivative controller of proposed structure can be programmed by the bias currents. Also proportional gain, integral time constant and derivative time constant can be electronically controlled. The use of grounded capacitor makes the proposed structure suitable for integrated circuit implementation. The simulation results are used to confirm the workability of the proposed circuit.

This paper proposes a two-dimensional handheld mi-cromanipulator oriented toward bio cell handling. The micromanipulator consists of two flexible links, each of which is constructed with a parallel beam structure. Electric coils and permanent magnets are used to produce an actuator to form double drivers. An explicit model predictive control combined with a PID controller called a robust hybrid control is proposed not only to achieve robust tracking performance, but also to dampen the vibration of the mechanism. The experimental results are compared to results from a standard PID controller to investigate the effectiveness of the micromanipulator.

This paper presents a voltage-mode proportionalintegral-derivative controller using fully differential current conveyors as active elements. The proportional gain, integral time constant and derivative time constant can be orthogonally controlled. The proportional, proportional-integral, proportionalderivative and proportional-integral-derivative controllers can be obtained by appropriately connecting the input and output terminals. The circuit possesses high-input impedance which is advantageous for cascade connection. The proposed structure is highly suitable for integrated circuit implementation by using only grounded passive comments. The PSPICE simulation results are included to confirm the workability of the proposed circuit. © 2014 IEEE.

This paper introduces a new resistorless mixedmode proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller. It employs six simple transconductors and only two grounded capacitors. The proposed PID controller offers several advantageous features of resistorless configuration, use of grounded capacitors, independent electronic-tuning characteristic of its parameters, and mixed-mode operation such as current, transimpedance, transadmittance, and voltage modes. The parasitic element effects of the transconductors on the proposed controller are investigated and the improved low-frequency performance of the proposed controller is then discussed. As applications, the proposed controller is demonstrated on two closed-loop systems. The PSPICE simulations with TSMC 0.18μm CMOS process and ±0.9 V supply voltage verify the theoretical analysis.

Optimal fuzzy gain scheduling of PID controller of superconducting magnetic energy storage for power system stabilization
    (2013-05-21)

It is well known that the proportional-integral-derivative (PID) can be applied to solve practical control problems effectively. However, in the face of the high system nonlinearity, the PID controller with fixed parameters may fail to provide satisfactory control performance. To enhance the PID control effect, a new design of the fuzzy gain scheduling of PID controller (FGS-PID) is presented in this paper. The proposed technique is applied to design FGS-PID controllers of superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) for power system stabilization. Without trial and error, the scale factors, membership functions and control rules of the FGS-PID controller are automatically tuned by a bee colony optimization. With the optimal FGS-PID controller, the PID parameters can be adjusted automatically according to various system operating conditions. As a result, the high robustness of the FGS-PID controller can be expected. Simulation study confirms that the stabilizing effect and robustness of the proposed SMES with an optimal FGS-PID controller are much superior to those of the SMES with an optimal PID controller. © 2013 ICIC International.

Generally, the PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) controller with fixed parameters may fail to provide satisfactory performance when the system nonlinearity is high. To augment the PID control effect, the optimal fuzzy gain scheduling for a self-tuning PID controller (FGS-PID) is presented in this paper. The proposed technique is applied to design an FGS-PID controller of superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) for stabilization of inter-area power system oscillation.

Voltage-mode PID controller using DDCCs and all-grounded passive components
    (2013-01-01)
    Kumngern, Montree
This paper presents a new voltage-mode proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller using the differential difference current conveyors as active elements. The proposed PID controller uses all-grounded passive components which is highly suitable for integrated circuit implementation. The proportional gain, the integral time constant and the derivative time constant parameters can be independently controlled. For controlling the PID controller parameters, the circuit dose not need passive component-matching condition. The PSPICE simulation results are used to confirm the characteristics of the proposed PID controller. © 2013 IEEE.
