Item type:Publication, Superstrate-integrated switchable beam rectangular microstrip antenna for gain enhancement(2017-06-01) ;Kawdungta, Supakit ;Jaibanauem, Puwanai ;Pongga, RattiyaPhongcharoenpanich, ChuwongThis research has proposed a switchable beam rectangular microstrip antenna with double parasitic patches, in which two PIN diodes were deployed for manipulation of the main beam direction and a superstrate (i.e. Either a dielectric slab or metamaterial) for enhancement of the antenna gain. The dielectric slab is a second FR4 substrate while the metamaterial (MTM) is the 7 × 17 periodic structure of planar cycloid dipoles (PCD). Simulations were carried out and three different antenna prototypes (i.e. The proposed switchable beam rectangular microstrip antenna, the proposed antenna either with dielectric slab or MTM) fabricated and experimented. The simulation and experimental results are in good agreement and exhibit good impedance matching (|S<inf>11</inf>| <-10 dB) along the operating frequency. The average measured gain is 7 dBi with the unidirectional radiation pattern along the operating frequency. The proposed switchable antennas with and without the superstrate are operable in the 2.4-2.5 GHz WLAN system and switchable in three directions of 0°, 30° and 330° (xy-plane). Moreover, the findings validate the applicability of either the dielectric slab or three MTM block-layers as the superstrate to improve the antenna gain. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Design of a 24 GHz pattern reconfigurable slotted Yagi-Uda antenna on substrate integrated waveguide(2013-09-02) ;Limpiti, T.Krairiksh, M.This paper presents the design of a linearly polarized pattern reconfigurable antenna whose configuration employs a single feed and a low profile cavity backed slot antenna. The grounded coplanar waveguide feed is adopted to excite the slotted Yagi-Uda structure which is constructed on the substrate integrated waveguide (SIW). The whole antenna is thus completely constructed on a single layer of a printed circuit board (PCB) substrate. The concept of pattern reconfiguration is based on switching function between the director- and the reflector-parasitic slots of PIN diodes. This antenna is designed to operate at the frequency of 24 GHz that there are various applications, e.g., Doppler sensor in automotive and industrial applications, security applications, and communication applications. The simulation results show good matching and interesting performance in reconfiguring the radiation patterns. © 2013 IEEE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, A four-beam pattern reconfigurable Yagi-Uda antenna(2013-01-01) ;Kittiyanpunya, C.Krairiksh, M.This communication presents a pattern reconfigurable antenna which is based on the Yagi-Uda configuration that can change the radiation beam into four directions. The function of the parasitic elements can be altered between a director and a reflector with PIN diodes while the driven element can be altered between two perpendicular directions with RF switches. To be able to use this proposed antenna on an electric conductor, such as on the vehicle rooftop, the antenna is thus mounted on electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structure which serves as a magnetic conductor. The gain is approximately 5 dBi and the field trial exhibited the diversity gain of 17 dB over the fixed beam antenna. As a result, the proposed antenna possesses high potential for further development into a TV signal reception on moving vehicles. © 2013 IEEE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Signal-to-interference ratio improvement by using a phased array antenna of switched-beam elements(2005-05-01) ;Ngamjanyaporn, Phaisan ;Phongcharoenpanich, Chuwong ;Akkaraekthalin, PrayootKrairiksh, MonaiA phased array antenna of switched-beam elements is proposed to improve the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR). By using 1-bit phase shifters, the main beam of the array is switched to desired signal direction, and with the switched-beam patch antenna elements the null patterns are changeable. The results of radiation patterns show that the interference suppression can be improved. Moreover, the SIR measurement is also set up in multipath environment to ensure the array performance. It is found that the SIR is significantly affected by the multipath environment; however, the SIR improvement of more than 10 dB can be obtained by changing the null patterns. © 2005 IEEE.
