Results showed that higher perceived social capital in terms of interpersonal trust and network relationships are negatively associated with variability in production. The observed association can be attributed to the social capital capacity for resource generation and networking, which help mitigate potential risks. The study provided evidence of the importance of developing and strengthening the social capital of farming communities in supporting farmers’ risk management. Especially among farmers with less access to information, the farmer’s network facilitated the knowledge-sharing on farming innovations and improved practices.

Influence of perceived risks in farmer’s decision towards sustainable farm practices, Evidence from Northern Thailand

Under the sustainable development goals, nations worldwide are enjoined to take immediate action through sustainable adaptations to mitigate climate variability and change. At the same time, agriculture is both a victim and a contributor to climate change. The situation prompted Thailand’s agriculture to explore sustainable practices for food security and deliver environmental services. Using a binary logit model, the potential effects of farmers’ perceived risks on adopting sustainable farming practices were investigated. The study revealed that farmers are somewhat hesitant to radically shift from their usual practices due to associated costs and the perceived potential risks. In addition, the study found that factors affecting adoption were site-specific. Hence, government actions should be flexible and tailored to a local level while still aligning with the national policy goals. For this, inter-agency coordination at the local, provincial and central levels is needed for agricultural support and enable farmers to make necessary changes to successfully adapt to emerging risks.

Clustering Mutual Funds by Net Asset Value Change Ratios
    (2020-12-29)

The traditional factors of the clustering mutual fund (such as Net Asset Value (NAV)) are not always an efficient measure in both maximizing returns and minimizing portfolio risk. This research presents a novel measure, Net Asset Value Change Ratios for some of time durations N (NAVCR-N), to assist the mutual fund clustering. We proved the usage of the NAVCR-N as mutual fund LTF similarity measures and LTF are then selected from differing clusters to create a diversified mutual fund portfolio. Approximately a hundred mutual fund data different times from the set for the fiscal year 2010-2018 are applied in the experiment to evaluate the effectiveness of the random approach and our diverse approaches.
