Item type:Publication, Characteristic requirements of a small scale squirrel cage induction generator for effective electricity generation from wind energy(2013-01-01) ;Kinnares, V.Sawetsakulanond, B.This paper proposes characteristic requirements of a small scale squirrel cage induction generator for effective electricity generation from wind energy. These characteristics are obtained from modeling and testing results. Investigation into comparative performances between Standard and high efficiency induction generators is given in order to find out the characteristic requirements of a suitable induction generator. Performances of various features of the machine structure are given. The suitable design of the induction generator based on empirical rules is also included. The investigation of power loss of the induction machine both in theory using FEM (Finite Element Method) and tests has been made. In addition, static var (Volt-Ampere reactive power) compensator using power electronic control to keep terminal voltage of a self-excited induction generator constant is explained. These results can be guidelines for machine development and control method for effective electricity generation. © 2013 The Authors. Item type:Publication, Analysis and investigation of skew effect on behavior and performance of a small scale three-phase self-excited induction generator(2011-09-12) ;Sawetsakulanond, BudhaponKinnares, VijitThis paper presents analysis and investigation of the skew effect on behavior and performance of a three-phase, 220/380V, 8.7/5.0A, ?/Y connected, 4 poles, 2.2kW self-excited induction generator (SEIG) with different angles rotor skewing. A 2D finite element analysis (2D-FEA) is used to consider core loss, flux density and circuit parameters. Analysis of excitation capacitor values for the SEIG based on a steady-state equivalent circuit model including rotor skew effect is given. Skewed rotor slots with angle of 0° (non-skew), 5° and 10° for the SEIGs are employed. Testing and performance comparisons under steady-state operation with a pure resistive load have been conducted. Obtained results can be guidelines and recommendations for development of effective wind induction generators. © 2011 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Design, analysis, and construction of a small scale self-excited induction generator for a wind energy application(2010-01-01) ;Sawetsakulanond, B.Kinnares, V.This paper proposes the design, analysis, and construction of a three phase, 0.75 kW, 220/380 V, 3.4/2.0 A, Δ/. Y connected, 4 poles, SEIG (self-excited induction generator) based on empirical rules. The designed SEIG offers improved high efficiency and power quality. The design takes into consideration a skew effect and power quality. A 2D-FEA (2 dimension finite element analysis) is used to consider core loss, flux density and circuit parameters of the designed SEIG. The designed SEIG has been tested and compared with a standard SEIG under various operating conditions in terms of efficiency and power quality. Consideration of capacitance for the SEIG based on steady-state equivalent circuit model and a power flow diagram is also given. Research results can be guidelines and recommendations for development of small wind induction generators for effective electricity generation. © 2010 Elsevier Ltd. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Optimal capacitances compensation for short-shunt self-excited induction generator under inductive load(2009-12-01) ;Phumiphak, P.Chat-uthai, C.This paper presents a technique for evaluating the optimal values of capacitances necessary to maintain the power quality of voltage regulation of the short-shunt self-excited induction generator (SEIG) feeding to the desired pu load under various lagging power factor conditions. The optimal values of shunt and series capacitances, and the optimal relation of ratio of air gap voltage to frequency with magnetizing reactance for the minimum voltage regulation of SEIG are evaluated by using the technique of genetic algorithm (GA) based on the equivalent circuit parameters of machine. Experimental results of 0.75 kW, short-shunt SEIG are performed to confirm the effectiveness of this proposed technique. The results are experimentally verified, which illustrate that the voltage regulations of SEIG under different inductive loads are within the limit of ± 0.06 pu. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
