Item type:Publication, An architected silk fibroin-lignin multilayer with deep-level trapping states for high-output triboelectric nanogenerators(2026-03-01) ;Suktep, Natdanai ;Sae-tang, Chanachot ;Ukasi, Sirinya ;Pakawanit, PhakkhanananSupansomboon, SupitchaBiopolymer-based triboelectric nanogenerators (B-TENGs) are promising power sources for sustainable and flexible electronics, but their performance is often limited by severe charge recombination at the triboelectric interface. To overcome this critical bottleneck, we report an architected multilayer B-TENG featuring a silk fibroin (SF)/MgAl LDH composite as the charge-generating layer and, to our knowledge, for the first time, a lignin-functionalized SF film as a dedicated charge-trapping layer. The strategic incorporation of lignin, an abundant and sustainable biopolymer, introduces deep-level electronic trapping states originating from its abundant aromatic moieties. That effectively suppresses interfacial charge recombination and prolongs charge lifetime. By optimizing the contents of MgAl LDH and lignin, the device achieves a measured open circuit output voltage ( V <inf> OC </inf>) and current density ( J <inf> SC </inf>) of 96 V and 6.56 μA/cm3, with a maximum output power ( P <inf> max </inf>) of 205 μW, corresponding to a power density of 22.7 μW/cm2. We also propose a mechanistic linking of deep-level traps to prolonged charge lifetime and increased net transferable charge. The interface-engineering strategy demonstrated here paves the way for developing high-performance and sustainable biopolymer-based TENGs and motion sensors. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Tailoring silk fibroin hydrophilicity and physicochemical properties using sugar alcohols for medical device coatings(2024-12-01) ;Kaewpirom, Supranee ;Piboonnithikasem, Sarayoot ;Sroisroemsap, Pongsathorn ;Uttoom, SittichaiBoonsang, SiridechThis study explores the modification of silk fibroin films for hydrophilic coating applications using various sugar alcohols. Films, prepared via solvent casting, incorporated glycerol, sorbitol, and maltitol, revealing distinctive transparency and UV absorption characteristics based on sugar alcohol chemical structures. X-ray diffraction confirmed a silk I to silk II transition influenced by sugar alcohols. Glycerol proved most effective in enhancing the β-sheet structure. The study also elucidated a conformational shift towards a β-sheet structure induced by sugar alcohols. Silk fibroin–sugar alcohol blind docking and sugar alcohol-sugar alcohol blind docking investigations were conducted utilizing the HDOCK Server. The computer simulation unveiled the significance of size and hydrogen bonding characteristics inherent in sugar alcohols, emphasizing their pivotal role in influencing interactions within silk fibroin matrices. Hydrophilicity of ozonized silicone surfaces improved through successful coating with silk fibroin films, particularly glycerol-containing ones, resulting in reduced contact angles. Strong adhesion between silk fibroin films and ozonized silicone surfaces was evident, indicating robust hydrogen bonding interactions. This comprehensive research provides crucial insights into sugar alcohols’ potential to modify silk fibroin film crystalline structures, offering valuable guidance for optimizing their design and functionality, especially in silicone coating applications. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Silk Fibroin/Amino Acid Hybrid Organic Piezoelectric-Triboelectric Nanogenerator(2023-01-01) ;Suktep, Natdanai ;Pongampai, Satana ;Pakawanit, Phakkhananan ;Noisak, JitrawanBongkarn, TheerachaiTriboelectric nanogenerators (TENG) with great performance and biodegradability are desired for the expansion of novel medical devices and wearable electronics. The present study aims at the preparation of natural silk in the form of silk fibroin (SF) film for utilization in TENG and further improving its output efficiency by embedding organic-piezoelectric gamma-glycine (γ-gly) amino acid to be a hybrid-organic piezoelectric/triboelectric nanogenerator (HO-P/TENG). The attenuated total reflectance infrared spectroscopy (ATR-IR) results demonstrated the N-H, C = O, and C-N bonding for SF and SF/γ-gly, confirming its dominant effect with a strong electron-donating tendency from those amino groups. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) and synchrotron radiation X-ray tomographic microscopy (SR-XTM) images show good dispersibility of incorporated γ-gly on the surface and also inside the SF matrix relating to its content to improve the electrical performance homogeneously. By fabricating the device in the vertical contact-separation mode, the present SF/γ-gly HO-P/TENG at 15 wt% provides the maximum output voltage (V<inf>OC</inf>) and current (I<inf>SC</inf>) of 81 V and 121 μA with a maximum output power (P<inf>max</inf>) of 205 μW at the external load resistance of 5 MΩ. This SF-based HO-P/TENG has the advantage of being cost-effective with simple fabrication, demonstrating great promise for practical uses. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Highly-transparent multi-layered spin-coated silk fibroin film(2017-01-01) ;Wasapinyokul, Kamol ;Kaewpirom, Supranee ;Chuwongin, SanthadBoonsang, SiridechIn this study, the silk fibroin films with different numbers of layers were fabricated by the spin-coating method and their optical transmittances were observed. The process to synthesise the silk fibroin solution was explained - starting from the silk cocoon until the silk-fibroin solution, approximately 7.5% concentration wt/vol, was obtained. The solution was spin-coated onto clean glass substrates to fabricate samples. Totally 10 samples with different numbers of layers, from 1 to 5 layers, were obtained. All samples can be separated into two groups: those left dried at room temperature after spin-coating and those heated at 60°C. They were then measured for their transmittance over the visible-to-near-infrared region. All samples exhibited the high transmittance where the values were at 95% and 98%, for the samples at room temperature and those at 60°C, respectively. This was believed to be due to the heating effect that caused the silk fibroin to arrange itself after being heated, hence the higher transmittance. These high transmittances were maintained regardless of the number of layers and length of heating time. Results from this study could be used to fabricate a silk fibroin film with high optical transmittance and adjustable other properties.
