Ultra-wideband (UWB) technology is a crucial facilitator for high-data-rate wireless communication due to its extensive frequency spectrum and low power consumption. Simultaneously, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems have garnered considerable attention owing to their capability to enhance channel capacity and link dependability. This article discusses the development of small, high-performance MIMO UWB antennas with mutual suppression capabilities to fully use the benefits of both technologies. Additionally, the suggested antenna features a straightforward design and dual-band-notched characteristics. The antenna structure includes two radiating elements measuring 85 × 45 mm2. These elements use a rectangular patch provided by a coplanar waveguide (CPW). Double U-shaped slots are incorporated into the rectangular patch to introduce dual-band-notched properties, which help mitigate interference from WiMAX and WLAN communication systems. The antenna is fabricated on a Mylar® polyester film substrate of 0.3 mm in thickness, with a dielectric constant of 3.2. According to the measurement results, the suggested antenna functions efficiently across the frequency spectrum of 2.29 to 20 GHz, with excellent impedance matching throughout the bandwidth. Furthermore, it provides dual-band-notched coverage at 3.08–3.8 GHz for WiMAX and 4.98–5.89 GHz for WLAN. The antenna exhibits impressive performance, including favorable radiation attributes, consistent gain, and little mutual coupling (less than −20 dB). Additionally, the envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) is extremely low (ECC < 0.01) across the working bandwidth, which indicates excellent UWB MIMO performance. This paper offers an appropriate design methodology for future flexible and compact UWB MIMO systems that can serve as interference-resilient antennas for next-generation wireless applications.

Wireless body area network (BAN) technology is becoming an increasingly important part of the human body communication system and short range applications. Characteristic of ultra wideband impulse radio (UWB-IR) channel propagation is very important. The human body is more complex than other applications. Therefore, to understand the characteristics of the channel distribution on the human body is so important. This paper presents characteristic of channel propagation due to effect within human body and without human body for wireless applications based on measurement data. The template waveform is considered at the receiver side to maximize the SNR for evaluation. In this paper, the results are evaluated based on the extended Friis' transmission formula. This technique gives very accurate results and is very useful for the design and evaluation of UWB transmission for wireless medical applications, especially focusing on the effect of template waveform.

The transmission loss in modern wireless communication systems is usually evaluate by Friis' formula. However, ultra wideband communication systems cannot apply its directly because the transmission waveform for the ultra wideband is difference from the other wireless communication systems. In this paper, the performance of the ultra wideband antenna with the measurement data of the transmission waveform based on Friis' formula and correlation receiver are presented. This scheme used to evaluate formula for the transmission waveform of the ultra wideband communication system. The distortion will be consider the receiver waveform and antenna should be known. Since the ultra wideband transmission waveform are pulse-shaping by the antenna, difference parameter of the antenna is investigated, especially the effect of the antenna performance and waveform template.

Ultra wideband (UWB) impulse radio (IR) signals must be able to accomodate its common frequency band at 7.25 GHz to 8.50 GHz. Moreover, the signals should not be distorted too much when they pass through the antennas. Therefore, the transfer function of antennas must to known for the channel performance. In free space loss is usually evaluated by using the formula of Friis's. However, Friis's formula it's not directly applicable to UWB-IR transmission. This study to presentation, the characterization of UWB-IR transmission in FCC with common frequency band that takes into account the transmission waveform in UWB, its consider the distortion due to the antennas and the correlator receiver. Since the antennas are significant pulse-shaping filters in UWB, various kinds of antennas are experimentally examined, especially focusing on the effect of template waveform receiver.

The distortion of ultra wideband impulse radio (UWBIR) system that distorted by a channel due to antenna dispersion. This highly degrades of link budget performance. Therefore, to know the antenna characteristics, the effects of a waveform distortion, are necessary. The UWB transmission waveform is investigated by using extended Friis transmission formula based on UWB measurement data. This paper evaluates the performance system on transmission waveform distortion for UWB communication. The received signal and isotropic signal templates are considered with Friis formula. Mostly of radio wave propagation in link budget analytic performance is evaluated by using the Friis equation. Due to Friis equation is cannot directly apply for the UWB transmission waveform. For experimental evaluation scheme, using the broadband antenna for transmitter and receiver antennas (Tx and Rx). The full band 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz, which contributed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), is proposed as the UWB signal waveform. The transfer functions measured as experimental result by using the vector network analyzer for measuring and recording. This paper UWB transmission gains with the received signal and isotropic signal templates are shown and compared.

This paper presents a new compact thin-film ultrawideband (UWB) antenna with dual band-notched characteristics. The antenna contains a rectangular slot with a fork-like tuning stub. To achieve the dual band-notched characteristics, narrow and U-shaped slots are inserted on the radiator. This antenna is printed on a Mylar film substrate of 0.3 mm thickness with a dielectric constant of 3.2. The antenna has compact dimensions of 34.5 × 27.3 mm2. It operates in the frequency range 2.9-11.3 GHz with impedance matching covering the entire bandwidth and reasonable radiation properties. It also exhibits dual band-notched characteristics. One of the notched frequencies is in the range 3.3-3.7 GHz (WiMAX band) and the other in the range 5.1-5.8 GHz (WLAN band). The antenna is designed and simulated by using the commercial IE3D software, which is based on the method of moments. The antenna was fabricated and measured using Agilent E363B PNA network analyzers. The characteristics of the fabricated antenna show high correlation with those obtained from the simulation. The results confirm that the proposed antenna can achieve notch performance for WLAN and WiMAX communication systems and is also suitable for various portable UWB applications.

We propose a slot antenna consisting of a rectangular slot on the ground plane, fed by a microstrip line with a rectangular-ring-shaped tuning stub that can be deployed in ultra-wideband (UWB) communication systems to avoid interference with wireless local area network (WLAN) communication. Our antenna can achieve a single band-notched property from the 5 GHz frequency to the 6 GHz frequency owing to a controllable band notch that uses L- and J-shaped parasitic elements. The antenna characteristics can be modified to tune the band-notched property (4 GHz to 5 GHz or 6 GHz to 7 GHz) and the bandwidth of the band notch (1 GHz to 2 GHz). Furthermore, the shifted notch with enhanced width of the band notch from 1 GHz to 1.5 GHz is described in this paper. The UWB slot antenna and L- and J-shaped parasitic elements also provide the band-rejection function for reference in the WiMAX (3.5 GHz) and WLAN (5 GHz to 6 GHz) regions of the spectrum. Experiment results evidence the return loss performance, radiation patterns, and antenna gains at different operational frequencies. © 2012 ETRI.

Ultra wideband impulse radio (UWB-IR) technology is an ideal candidate for wireless UWB that can be utilized for short-range, high-speed, low power, and low cost indoor applications. The transmission gain of the free space propagation loss is usually estimated by using Friis' transmission formula. The Friis formula, it is not directly applicable to ultra wideband impulse radio network transmission systems, in particular the single band impulse radio, as the formula is expressed as a function of the frequency. Moreover, the waveform may be distorted due to the frequency characteristics of the antenna, and the comparison between Tx and Rx waveforms is not straightforward. This paper discusses the free space link budget evaluation of UWB antenna with template receiver based on the extended Friis' transmission formula. The template is considered at the receiver side to maximize the SNR for evaluation. An experimental evaluation of the complex transfer function needs the three-antenna method for the calibration of reference antenna. The technique gives very accurate results and is very useful for design and evaluation of UWB transmission performance, especially for the evaluation of waveform distortion effects. © 2011 IEEE.
