This paper discusses the active-only electronically tunable floating lossless inductance simulator, which uses a single fully balanced-voltage differencing buffered amplifier (FB-VDBA) and one operational amplifier (OA). For this implementation, only integrated circuit packages with no external passive components are utilized. The synthetic equivalent inductance value is electronically adjustable via the transconductance gain of the FB-VDBA. Non-idealities of the active element have produced their effects. Using PSPICE with TSMC 0.25-mum CMOS parameter and the LM741 type OA, the performance of the proposed circuit and its application as a second-order voltage-mode lowpass filter is demonstrated. The numerical simulations closely matched the theoretical results.

This work presents the design of a new grounded lossy inductance simulator. The proposed circuit emulates an inductor in parallel with a negative resistor, making it applicable to the design of a sinusoidal oscillator. The proposed simulator comprises a voltage differencing differential difference amplifier (VDDDA), a resistor, and a grounded capacitor. The proposed active inductor necessitates no essential matching criteria for passive elements. The equivalent inductance and negative resistance can be controlled electronically. Moreover, the parallel RLC and negative resistance configuration-based sinusoidal oscillator is designed as an example of its application. The oscillation frequency and condition are adjusted orthogonally. The performance of the proposed simulator circuit and the sinusoidal oscillator is evaluated using Pspice simulation and experimentation with VDDDA built from ICs AD830 and LM13700. The simulation and experimental results validate the behavior of the theory.

An active lossy parallel type inductance simulator is proposed in this study. Only a single voltage differencing gain amplifier (VDGA) and a grounded capacitor are used in the proposed design. The realized equivalent resistance (Req) and equivalent inductance (Leq) can be adjusted electronically via the transconductance gain of the VDGA device. The influence of the non-idealities of the VDGA on the realized simulator is examined in detail. The suggested active inductance simulator is used to realize the second order voltage mode highpass filter, which is simulated using the PSPICE simulation program to ensure that it performs as expected.

Abstract: Alternative circuit designs concerning the simulation of floating lossy inductors using voltage differencing buffered amplifiers (VDBAs) are described. The topologies proposed here require only three VDBAs and one capacitor to simulate a floating inductance with series and parallel resistance. The simulated equivalent elements, namely equivalent resistance (R<inf>eq</inf>) and equivalent inductance (L<inf>eq</inf>) are electronically controllable through the external bias currents of the VDBAs. The VDBA non-idealities including transconductance inaccuracy and voltage transfer error on the performance of the circuits has been discussed in detail. To support the theoretical analysis and demonstrate the practical workability of the proposed synthetic inductors, PSPICE simulation and experimental test results are also reported.

This paper reports four topologies, all simulating floating/grounded lossy inductors, using voltage differencing buffered amplifiers (VDBAs) as active elements. The simulated equivalent resistance and inductance values of the simulators can be adjusted electronically through the VDBA transconductance parameter. Non-ideal gain outcomes of the VDBA on the realized inductor circuits are finalized. The critical active and passive sensitivities are obtained to be low.

An actively simulated grounded lossless inductor based on employing voltage differencing inverting buffered amplifiers (VDIBAs) as new active components has been presented. The synthetic canonical inductor uses only two VDIBAs and one grounded capacitor. The simulator provides the advantage feature of electronic control of its equivalent inductance via the transconductance parameter of the VDIBA, and also does not need critical element matching conditions. An illustrative application of the proposed tunable grounded lossless inductor on the realization of an active RLC second-order bandpass filter has been designed. The usability of the proposed circuit has been evaluated using PSPICE simulations based on VDIBA implemented in TSMC 0.25-μ m CMOS technology, and the simulated results demonstrate a sufficient agreement with the theoretical conclusions.

An actively lossy parallel RL-type inductance simulation employing voltage differencing buffered amplifier (VDBA) as an active component is presented. The proposed grounded inductance simulator is realized with a single VDBA, one grounded capacitor and one floating resistor. The equivalent inductance value of the simulator can be adjusted electronically through the transconductance parameter of the VDBA. The effect of the VDBA non-idealities on the realized simulator is analyzed in detail. As an application, active second-order current-mode highpass/bandpass filter is designed using the proposed variable lossy inductance simulator. The PSPICE simulation results using TSMC 0.25-μm CMOS technology demonstrate a close agreement with the theory, and also verify the usefulness of the proposed simulator and its filter design application.

This paper presents the simple realization of the resistorless floating inductance simulation circuit based on using current-controlled conveyor transconductance amplifier (CCCTA). The proposed inductance simulator is realized by using only two CCCTAs and one capacitor without needing an external passive resistor. This configuration results in simple and canonical structure. The resulting equivalent inductance value of the proposed simulator is electronically adjustable through external bias currents. PSPICE simulation results demonstrating the circuit behaviors and confirming the theoretical analysis are performed.

A circuit technique to implement a floating inductance simulator using operational transconductance amplifiers (OTAs) is introduced in this paper. The realization method based on the commercially available OTA, one resistor and one capacitor provides the advantage of an electronic adjusting capability. The resulting inductance can be electronically varied by tuning the external bias current of OTA. The obtained simulator is also applied in system response compensation. Experimental results verifying the circuit performances are included. © 2011 ICROS.
