This work presents the quadrature sinusoidal oscillator using two Voltage Differencing-Differential Input Buffered Amplifiers (VD-DIBAs), two resistors, and two capacitors. The VD-DIBA is an electronically controllable active building block with high input and low output impedances that can con-nect to other circuits directly without the buffers. With these distinguished features, the VD-DIBA is employed in this design. The proposed oscillator can produce two sine waves with a phase shift of 90 degrees. Over the entire tuning frequency range, the magnitude of the quadrature output voltages is constant. The proposed oscillator is independently adjustable in terms of frequency and oscillation condition. Moreover, the frequency of oscillation can be electronically and lin-early adjusted by the bias currents. The condition of oscillation is adjustable by resistors, R<inf>1</inf> and R<inf>2</inf> . The performances of the proposed quadrature oscillator are tested through the PSpice simulation and the experiment. In the simulation, the VD-DIBA is built from the 0.18 µm Taiwan Semiconductor Manufactur-ing Company (TSMC) CMOS process with ±0.9 V supply voltages. In the experiment, the VD-DIBA is implemented using the commercial ICs, LM13700, and AD830 with ±5 V supply voltages. The simulated To-tal Harmonic Distortion (THD) values of the output voltages, V<inf>o1</inf> and V<inf>o2</inf> at f<inf>0</inf> = 1.03 MHz are 1.63 % and 1.81 %, respectively. The experimental THD values of the output voltages, V<inf>o1</inf> and V<inf>o2</inf> at f<inf>0</inf> = 536.6 kHz, are 1.43 % and 1.00 %, respectively.

In this paper, the design of sinusoidal oscillator which generates two output voltages with 90° degree phase difference is presented. The design procedure is started from the function block diagram to proposed oscillator using commercially available ICs. The proposed oscillator is constructed from three OTAs, one voltage summing circuit, one grounded resistor and two grounded capacitors. The frequency of the generated sinusoidal waveform is electronically and linearly controlled without disturbing the condition for oscillating of the system. With this feature, the proposed oscillator is used to generates the frequency modulation (FM) signal. The magnitude of the quadrature voltage waveform is equal during adjusting the generated frequency. A Pspice simulation and experiment are done to verify the performance of the proposed circuit. The macro models of available ICs, LM13700 and AD830 are employed for simulation. The simulation and experimental results confirm theory well as expected.

To date, no current-feedback operational amplifier (CFOA)-based sinusoidal oscillator has been reported which provides all the following features simultaneously: (i) current-mode quadrature sinusoidal oscillator providing two explicit-current-outputs (ECOs) from high output impedance terminals, (ii) employing no more than three CFOA ICs and six passive components, which include two grounded capacitors, (iii) offers independent tuning of the condition of oscillation (CO) via a resistor and (iv) provides tunability of the ratio of amplitudes of the generated quadrature ECOs via a separate resistor. To the best of authors' knowledge, this article reports first CFOA-based QOs in current-mode (i.e. providing two ECO signals). Experimental results using AD844 CFOA ICs from Analog Devices have been included to verify the workability of the proposed oscillator circuits. An example automatic gain control (AGC) loop to regulate the oscillation amplitude and control the THD has also been used and verified using SPICE simulations using the AD844 macro-model. © 2013 Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.

This paper presents a new electronically tunable mixed-mode quadrature sinusoidal oscillator using new allpass section as an building block. The oscillator is consisted of two allpass sections. Each allpass section employs one current-controlled current differencing transconductance amplifier and one grounded capacitor. The condition of oscillation and the frequency of oscillation can be controlled independently and electronically by adjusting the bias currents. The oscillator also offers two explicit quadrature voltage and quadrature current outputs into a single topology. The workability of the proposed structure is verified by PSPICE simulators based on 0.25 μm TSMC CMOS process. © 2013 IEEE.
