    Library Seat Hogging Detection Using Hybrid Real and AI-Generated Data

    Efficient management of library seating resources is a critical challenge in educational institutions, often hindered by 'seat hogging' behaviors where users occupy spaces with personal belongings without actual occupancy. Traditional manual inspections are labor-intensive and inefficient. This paper proposes an automated seat occupancy detection system utilizing existing CCTV infrastructure and Computer Vision techniques. We employ YOLOv8, a state-of-the-art object detection model, to identify two key classes: persons and belongings. To address the challenge of limited real-world datasets for specific library environments, we introduce a data augmentation strategy using AI-generated synthetic data produced by a generative model (Gemini 2.5 Pro). A rule-based algorithm is integrated to analyze the spatiotemporal relationship between detected persons and belongings, enabling the system to distinguish between 'occupied,' 'vacant,' and 'hogged' states effectively. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed hybrid dataset approach enhances detection performance, providing a scalable and cost-effective solution for smart library management. Furthermore, a pilot system evaluation yielded an overall accuracy of 91.62%, validating the system's effectiveness for real-world deployment.

    The objective of detecting and counting people using the CCTV camera on the footpath is to facilitate and reduce the time required to count the number of people traveling in pedestrian areas without having to actually visit the area. This paper uses the head detection technique to solve the problem of overlapping objects, YOLOv8n for detection and BoT-SORT for object tracking. A program was developed to assist the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration in counting the number of people within the region of interest and visualizing the statistics. Users can view statistics in the form of visual charts to compare the maximum number of people in each period by importing the video into the program. Users can also view historical statistics from previously imported videos. This program enables users to monitor pedestrian traffic in each area, providing valuable insights for urban planning decisions.

    Analytical treatment of parametric effects in a ring resonator

    We propose two systems of a nano-waveguide to study the effects of ring resonator radii and coupling coefficient. The first proposed system is introduced as a single ring resonator. The change of the center wavelength from the output signal is monitored and analyzed. It shifts towards higher wavelength of the spectrum. The multistage ring resonator system consists of two micro and a nano ring resonators that can be integrated into a single system. The soliton pulse propagating within a Kerr type nonlinear medium is used to generate the large bandwidth signals. By using the suitable parameters, for instance, the input power of soliton, coupling coefficients, and ring radii, the short-wave and millimetre-wave output signals can simultaneously be generated in a multi-stage ring resonator (MMRR). We found that by using the MMRR, a desired response can be achieved over a broader portion of the spectrum compared to the single-stage ring resonator (SMRR) in which it is more preferable in applications.

    World heritage city surveillance system by a smart CCTV system

    World heritage city surveillance system using smart closed circuit television (CCTV) is a system that detects the movement around the monitoring area and then counts the number of tourists who enter and exit the word heritage city. The system has been developed to assist the surveillance system in the world heritage city (WHC) or restricted area through the CCTV camera in detecting the trespassers, when the WHC is closed. This data can be used not only for the surveillance purpose but also for the commercial strategic planning and the security community as well. For example, the number of participants, audience, or visitors who attend the event can be used to plan the upcoming event. In developing the world heritage city surveillance system using smart CCTV, the developers adapted the knowledge about image processing to detect and count the number of people-in and people-out from video data and to security for the system. The system was tested on three set of video data and the results reveal 80-90% accuracy rate. Most of the errors occur when the background area is dark or when people walk in a group but the ability to control critical analysis of communication data to the agency administrator can control the order to increase security for tourists and maintain the condition of the remains a world heritage site.

    Smart car with security camera for road accidence monitoring

    This research proposes the concept of security and prevention of road accidence using close circuit television (CCTV) monitoring system in conjunction with the vehicular ad hoc networks (VANET), which is integrated by a 3G or 4G cellular wireless networks. By using the CCTV cameras installed in taxi (car), the image is converted to wireless signal and transmitted via the radio system, in which the communication between cars and taxi call centre can be provided. Moreover, the security of image can be protected by using the signal encryption technique, in which the secret key is available only by authorized person, where finally the required image can be viewed when the crime is occurred. This is the security concept with the privacy violation and protection.

    Novel CCTV security camera system using DWDM wavelength enhancement

    We propose a new design of a security camera system that uses the dense wavelength division multiplexing wavelength enhancement, whereas increasing in channel capacity and security can be provided. The increasing in number of channel can be obtained by the increasing in wavelength density, while the security is introduced by the specific wavelength filter, which is operated by the central operator. The optical communication wavelength enhancement is reviewed. The advantage is that the proposed system can be implemented and used incorporating with the existed communication link in either wire/wireless system, where the human privacy can be provided, which is discussed in details.
