Item type:Item, An approach for voltage drop improvement in 22 kV PEA distribution system based on high voltage capacitor placement(2023-10-01) ;Thongsuk, Surakit ;Ngaopitakkul, Atthapol ;Kotesakha, Wikorn ;Leelajindakrairerk, MonthonPothisarn, ChaichanThe distribution system has been constantly expanded with rising load demand due to population and economic growth. The result is a distribution line facing a voltage drop issue voltage drop, which results from increasing interconnected load and the distance from the substation. To mitigate this issue, this paper proposed an approach to improve the voltage level on the distribution line using a high-voltage capacitor bank. The system under study is modeled after the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) 22-kV distribution line. The placement of the high voltage capacitor bank will be based on the 2/3 rule technique. The PSCAD/EMTDC has been used to simulate the characteristics of the case study distribution system and evaluate the performance of the proposed technique in comparison with the PEA voltage regulation standard. The result has demonstrated the ability to use the proposed high voltage capacitor bank placement technique to improve voltage levels in the distribution system. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Item, Impact of Wind Power Generation Sizing on the Characteristic of Distribution System Under Fault Condition(2022-01-01) ;Yoomak, Suntiti ;Leelajindakrairerk, Monthon ;Ngaopitakkul, Atthapol ;Ananwattanaporn, SantipontSongsukthawan, PanapongIn the recent decade, there has been a rising concern in energy consumption and environmental issues. This trend has shifted the electric authority to focus from fossil fuel to renewable energy. The distributed generation (DG) using a renewable energy source has been raising. The presence of DG can cause using renewable energy sources to cause a technical issue on system protection and operation. This paper aims to study the impact of different DG size installations on the distribution system in terms of the system characteristics. The study is done in both normal conditions and in cases of fault occurrence. The system using in this research is a 22-kV distribution system consists of Wind Power Generation as the DG connected into the distribution line that modeled after part of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) in the northern part of Thailand. The simulation was done using PSCAD software. The result from simulation reveals the impact of DG on the distribution system characteristics in terms of significant change in the measured current and voltage signal. Thus, the analysis of the impact of DG on the system must be done to ensure the reliability of the power system. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Item, Study on coordination of protective relays in distribution system with distributed generation(2020-01-01) ;Ananwattanaporn, Santipont ;Songsukthawan, Panapong ;Yoomak, Suntiti ;Pothisarn, ChaichanJettanasen, ChaiyanIn the recent decade, many countries around the globe have been increased the proportion of electrical power generation from renewable energy sources, which results in rising in the penetration level of distributed generation (DG). However, the installation of DG into the distribution system may raise many issues that can impact the distribution system in both the technical and economic aspects. When DG is connected to a distribution system, it can affect the performance of the system and the protective device already installed owing to the change of voltage level, short-circuit level and direction of power flow in the system. For this reason, a protective device may cause the malfunction because the bus impedance of the system is changed; this will result in a change of the current in each bus. This paper aims to study the coordination between the protective relay and the DG installed into the distribution system. The distribution system under investigation is a part of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA). Under this research, DG data that are connected to the PEA distribution is used. The simulations are performed using digital simulation and electrical network calculation program (DIgSILENT). - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Item, Influence of wind farm on distribution system: Current characteristics during fault occurrence(2018-01-01) ;Ananwattanaporn, Santipont ;Ngaopitakkul, Atthapol ;Jettanasen, Chaiyan ;Pothisarn, ChaichanLeelajindakrairerk, MonthonIn this past few years, installation of distributed generator (DG) has become topic of interest in many countries due to rapid increase in energy and environmental issue. Generating power from renewable source has been proposed to compensate fossil fuel that is currently depleted. Wind power is one of the renewable energy sources that gains a huge attention, and many utilities are connecting wind power to distribution system. This number is going to get higher in the near future. Research on influence of wind power on system must be done in order to ensure the reliability of power system. This paper aims to study an impact of wind power-integrated distribution system when fault occurs in the system for various conditions. Many factors capable of changing system characteristics have been taken into account such as distribution system consisting of multi-wind power generation, size of wind power generation, fault type, and location of fault. Distribution system under this study is modeled based on 22 kv distribution network of Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) in Thailand. Simulation will be done by using PSCAD/EMTP. Result obtained from case studies will be used to analyze and evaluate the effect of installation of wind power. The result indicates that the DG contributes significant fault current to the system when fault occurs.
