    The designing of 3D-printed modular artificial reefs through design thinking framework: a case study in Koh Khai, Chumphon Province, Thailand

    Coral reefs degradation in Thailand demands scalable, community-accessible restoration solutions. This study addresses the limitations of conventional artificial reefs by developing 3D-printed modular artificial reefs (3DMARs) optimized for ecological performance, usability, and low-resource deployment. Formulated through the lens of design expertise and applying a design thinking framework, the research integrates qualitative content analysis, interdisciplinary collaboration, and user-centered design to establish key criteria, including modularity, flexibility, and environmental sustainability. Prototypes were co-developed with SCG Co., Ltd. Field deployment at Koh Khai, Chumphon Province, demonstrated ease of transport, manual installation, and ecological compatibility. Initial observations suggest that the system enhances coral habitat complexity while promoting local engagement. The study presents a replicable and adaptable model for decentralized reef restoration, supporting sustainable marine efforts in regions with limited technical capacity, such as Thailand and similar Southeast Asian coastal areas.

    Design-thinking integration in cultural project planning: bridging theory and practice

    This qualitative study aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills by developing a design thinking-based innovative pedagogy for creative planning of cultural projects at Shanxi University of Finance and Economics (SUFE). The discover, define, design, develop, and deploy (5Ds) model, an innovative pedagogy grounded in design thinking, was designed with five phases. After evaluation by five cultural project planning experts, the model was refined to align closely with pedagogical objectives. Three primary research instruments were employed: a theoretically derived framework, a meticulously designed lesson plan, and an achievement test. Contextually tailored to Chinese culture, each phase was symbolized by a Chinese lantern, signifying prosperity and the intended positive outcomes of the pedagogy. The phases comprised: i) discover, where consumer needs were analyzed; ii) define, identifying problems and setting objectives; iii) design, focusing on idea generation; iv) develop, involving prototyping, implementation, and revisions; and v) deploy, for final product testing and market introduction. This culturally resonant pedagogical framework supports a comprehensive approach to teaching cultural project planning, fostering innovation, and practical application. Through symbolic integration, the 5Ds model aligns with educational goals while encouraging Chinese students to embrace innovation. Outcomes indicate enhanced teaching quality and instructional effectiveness, addressing existing educational challenges.

    Examining vocational college student learning needs toward entrepreneurship courses in Southwestern China

    The present research aimed to study the student learning needs assessments of entrepreneurship courses in vocational colleges of southwestern China to identify students' learning needs based on the perspectives of creativity, openness to experience, project-based blended learning, design thinking, and entrepreneurship courses. The researcher employed a multi-stage sampling method to select a sample size of 400 current vocational students from four regions in southwestern China to participate in this research. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to determine the means of 15 items. The results showed that the mean values of the items ranged from 3.66 to 4.28, and all items reached at least the need level. Furthermore, respondents strongly agreed on the importance of enhancing openness to experiences and creativity in entrepreneurship courses. Meanwhile, the respondents also indicated the need for project-based blended learning and design thinking as the learning methods to be used in the teaching practices of entrepreneurship. The results of this study are expected to benefit educators in the process of developing new teaching methods and curricula in the field of entrepreneurship education.
