This system is highly complex as it includes various types such as incandescent bulbs, fluorescent tubes, HID lamps, and LEDs. These types of loads consist of many electronic components and are significant sources of Auto-Tuned Active Filter signals. These harmonic signals directly affect protective devices and electronic equipment in the building's electrical system. Therefore, reducing the harmonic signals generated by the lighting system is crucial for buildings. Generally, harmonic reduction can be achieved by installing one of three types of filters: active, passive, and hybrid. This research presents the design of an auto-tuned active filter using the MATLAB Simulink and tests it using four lighting load cases. The designed circuit can effectively reduce harmonic signals while also improving the energy efficiency of the building. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Item, Feasibility study and impact of daylight on illumination control for Energy-saving lighting systems(2018-11-07) ;Bunjongjit, SuleeNgaopitakkul, AtthapolThe main goal of energy conservation should be reducing the consumption of energy resources. Due to energy and environmental concerns in recent years, to reduce energy consumption in a lighting system, which has been one of the prime targets of energy saving, daylighting has been investigated and has become one of the energy-efficiency techniques widely applied in buildings. This paper presents an analysis of T5 fluorescent luminaire lighting control using daylight in a building. The study is conducted in two parts; simulation of a lecture room using the daylighting function of the DIALux program is performed to estimate the effect of daylighting on a task area (workplane). Another part is an experimental setup to evaluate the performance of a lighting control unit that is installed for a T5 fluorescent luminaire with a dimmable electronic ballast. The efficiency of the lighting control in term of illumination on the task area and energy consumption are also evaluated and compared with the standard case. The simulation results show that daylighting increases illuminance on a task area, especially on the window side, so the lighting system can significantly reduce its power consumption compared with a standard case (without lighting control). The experimental result shows that upon installing the lighting control with daylighting, both the average illuminance and the energy consumption in each time period are decreased compared with in the standard case. Lighting control with daylighting tries to set the average illuminance on a task area to less than 500 lux, corresponding to the amount of daylight passing through window shutters. The obtained results are useful for the design of a T5 fluorescent luminaire with lighting control using daylighting in a building lighting system for energy efficiency and reducing energy consumption, including the average illuminance on the task area, according to a relevant standard. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Item, Harmonics and reduction of energy consumption in lighting systems by using led lamps(2018-11-01) ;Phannil, Natthanon ;Jettanasen, ChaiyanNgaopitakkul, AtthapolThis paper proposes the study and analysis of harmonics, energy consumption and power quality of light emitting diode (LED) lamps equipped in building lighting systems. LED lamps with external (LED MR16) and internal (LED light bulb) drivers are investigated using an experimental setup to compare the results. The power quality of both LED lamps is studied by using a power quality meter to measure the generated harmonic currents from various case studies. The case study is divided into four major cases: one LED lamp is turned on with one driver, two LED lamps are turned on using the two drivers, eight LED lamps are turned on with one driver, and eight LED lamps are turned on with the eight drivers. As harmonics are related to total power factor (PF), which affects the energy savings of the building, hence, a filtering circuit to reduce harmonic current has been designed and implemented to improve power quality and/or power factor of the system. The different cases of harmonic filter insertion at the input of an LED lamp's driver are discussed and then compared with a lighting standard to show the effectiveness of the passive filtering technique used in the studied system. In addition, the obtained result can be applied to both newly built and retrofitted buildings that aim to use LED technology to increase energy efficiency and decrease energy costs, and could be a helpful guide for end-users and manufacturers in addressing and developing LED issues. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Item, Energy savings analysis and harmonics reduction for the electronic ballast of T5 fluorescent lamp in a building's lighting system(2015-06-15) ;Chiradeja, P. ;Ngaopitakkul, A.Jettanasen, C.Lighting is one of the major energy end uses, which accounts for approximately 20-30% of electricity consumption in buildings. In fact, the fluorescent lamp is the most employed lamp in a lighting system for both inside and outside the building. The ballast is one of the major components of fluorescent lamps; it exists commercially as an electromagnetic ballast, a low loss ballast and an electronic ballast. To reduce energy consumption in a lighting system, the electronic ballast has already been introduced for profit in terms of its peak demand reduction and energy conservation in the building. However, when the electronic ballast functions, harmonics will be generated. Hence, this paper investigates energy savings and the generation of harmonics when using a fluorescent T5 lamp with electronic ballast in a building. The efficiency indices in terms of illumination, energy savings, and harmonics are also evaluated and compared with the fluorescent T8 lamp operating with a low watt loss electromagnetic ballast, which is also widely used. The obtained results are useful for the design and decision to install a fluorescent T5 lamp with electronic ballast in building lighting system to conserve energy and/or reduce energy consumption for the future of the country. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Although the illuminance on the task area can be increased using the daylight but various factors must be taken into account. This research aims to study an impact of illuminance with daylight in term of each time period. The illuminance is calculated with daylight function in DIALux program. In addition, the fluorescent T5 tube lamp is used in simulation. The case study room without daylight (base case) is compared, in term of illuminance, with the case study room with daylight of each time period. The obtained results show that the daylight can increase the illuminance in the building so the lighting system in many modern buildings has applied daylight in order to achieve specific result of energy savings. Item type:Item, Study of harmonics issued from electronic ballast used to reduce energy consumption in Thailand's building(2014-01-01) ;Jettanasen, C.Ngaopitakkul, A.In 2009, the T5 fluorescent tube lamp with electronic ballast was launched by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) in order to reduce energy consumption in building. The ballast is one of major components of fluorescent lamp. The installation of T5 fluorescent lamp in building has the effect of harmonics. This paper investigated the impact of harmonics from various electronic ballasts existing commercially, and compared with conventional ballast. The obtained results show that the T5 fluorescent tube lamp functioning with electronic ballast is a promising candidate to replace the T8 fluorescent tube lamp with electromagnetic and low watt loss ballast in building. © 2014 IEEE. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

To reduce energy consumption by the lighting system, this paper proposes the feasibility and system impact study of energy saving using fluorescent T5 tube lamp in building by displaying the information as energy, illuminance including comparing fluorescent T8 tube lamp that are widely used in nowadays. The obtained results from the analysis will be useful to only choose and decide in the installation of fluorescent T5 tube lamp with electronic ballast for lighting system in building. © 2014 IEEE.
