    In industrial systems, solar power systems are used to reduce environmental impact and use less energy from the grid. Solar energy systems have non-linear electrical characteristics that cause harmonic problems. Such problems result in damage to electrical equipment despite the small amount of harmonic current. This paper presents a suitable and simple analytical method to solve this problem by installing a passive filter.

    Comparison of Harmonic Solutions to Power Quality improvement for Grid-Connected Solar Rooftop Applications in Industrial Plants

    The solar rooftop installation is currently grown in Thailand, when many solar inverters are connected to the grid. It impacts existing electrical systems such as the harmonic resonance occur and malfunction of sensitive equipment. In addition, electrical circuit breakers, contactors, fuses, and power capacitors are damaged, which can affect electrical quality in the system. The impact of solar rooftop installation on the reliability and security of existing power grids must be urgently analyzed. This paper examines and selects methods to reduce the harmonic effects caused by the increase in solar inverter installation in existing power systems. The main objective of the study is to reduce distortion and harmonic resonance problems in the system, as well as to select suitable methods for solving problems. Practically, it is ensured that the passive power filter system (PPFs), active power filter system (APFs) and hybrid power filter system (HPFs) are the best solution applied for grid-connected system. A method for selecting a suitable solution for solving problems in each plant was proposed. A comparison of the solutions to all three methods has been analyzed for maximum benefit. Guidelines, procedures, and operational requirements can be applied in industrial plants.

    Dynamic responses of functionally graded sandwich beams resting on elastic foundation under harmonic moving loads

    This paper investigates the free vibration and dynamic response of functionally graded sandwich beams resting on an elastic foundation under the action of a moving harmonic load. The governing equation of motion of the beam, which includes the effects of shear deformation and rotary inertia based on the Timoshenko beam theory, is derived from Lagrange's equations. The Ritz and Newmark methods are employed to solve the equation of motion for the free and forced vibration responses of the beam with different boundary conditions. The results are presented in both tabular and graphical forms to show the effects of layer thickness ratios, boundary conditions, length to height ratios, spring constants, etc. on natural frequencies and dynamic deflections of the beam. It was found that increasing the spring constant of the elastic foundation leads to considerable increase in natural frequencies of the beam; while the same is not true for the dynamic deflection. Additionally, very large dynamic deflection occurs for the beam in resonance under the harmonic moving load.

    Investigation of the natural resonant frequencies of palmyrah palm juice for quality control

    This paper proposes an identification methodology to distinguish between pure and adulterated palmyrah palm juice. The resonance behavior of the palmyrah palm juice has been investigated through numerical electromagnetic simulation. From the scattered response, the natural frequencies of the palmyrah palm juice are extracted. The identification can be performed by cataloging and comparing these pre computed library of the natural resonant frequencies associated with the standard palmyrah palm juice to check for the quality of the samples to be tested.

    Identification of maturity of fruit in the frequency domain using its natural frequencies

    This paper presents an identification methodology to determine the stage of maturity of a fruit by using its natural resonant frequencies, which can be extracted from its scattering response. Since the dielectric properties of a fruit are determined by its chemical properties, the identification can be performed by comparing the libraries of poles to determine the stage of maturity for that fruit. © 2012 IEEE.
