Item type:Publication, Insecticidal activity of Citrus aurantium and Eucalyptus globulus essential oils and their major constituents against nymphs and adults of Pediculus humanus capitis De Geer(2023-07-01); Sittichok, S.The results showed that every tested EO and its constituents exhibited a higher pediculocidal activity against nymphs and adults of P. humanus capitis than 25% (w/v) benzyl benzoate did. In particular, 5% 1,8-cineole exhibited the highest insecticidal effects against P. humanus capitis nymphs and adults with 100% mortality rate at 1 min with an LT<inf>50</inf> of 0.2 min and an LC<inf>50</inf> of 0.7%. The other EO formulations provided a mortality rate ranging from 0-96.0% and an LT<inf>50</inf> ranging 0.3-315.9 min against nymphs. Against the adults, the mortality rate ranged from 12.0-96.0% with an LT<inf>50</inf> ranging from 1.2-314.5 min. Our data showed that 1,8-cineole has a great potential to control head lice populations and should be further developed into a safe and effective pediculicide. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Efficacy of new herbal shampoos from garcinia dulcis kurz, citrus aurantium l. and eucalyptus globulus labill as pediculicides for head lice (Pediculus humans capitis) control(2018-07-01) ;Sittichok, S.Currently, synthetic chemical pediculicides have lost their efficacy due to worldwide increased resistance of head lice to them. Therefore, safe, natural product alternatives are in dire need. This study investigated the efficacy of an herbal shampoo made from Garcinia dulcis (Roxb.) added with either Citrus aurantium EO or Eucalyptus globulus EO against head lice in both in vitro and in vivo tests. In vitro experiment used a filter paper contact method to evaluate the pediculicidal activity of the shampoo at 0.002, 0.003 and 0.006 ml/cm <sup>2</sup> doses (per unit area of petri dish plate) on nymphs and adults of head lice. In vivo trial, the infested children were treated with the shampoo. The results showed either cured or not cured of pediculosis. The main results showed LC50 values against nymphs for G. dulcis + C. aurantium EO shampoo and G. dulcis + E. globulus EO shampoo were 0.00001 and 0.00004 ml/cm <sup>2</sup> , respectively. Those actively against the adults which were 0.7 and 0.9 ml/cm <sup>2</sup> , respectively. In vivo test revealed that G. dulcis + C. aurantium EO shampoo and G. dulcis + E. globulus EO shampoo were the most effective pediculicide, showing 100% cure rate after the 2nd application, much more effective than the tested chemical pediculicide. It concluded that these shampoos can be highly affected pediculicide alternatives and safe for treating humans. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Efficacy of Thai herbal shampoos from averrhoa carambola L., Hibiscus sabdariffa L. and Passiflora edulis Sims. for controlling head lice, pediculus humanus capitis (De Geer)(2018-09-01) ;Sittichok, S. ;Chantawee, A.Pediculosis is an infestation of the scalp caused by head lice, Pediculus humanus capitis (De Geer), which affects important public health in schoolchildren. Nowadays, head lice resistant to chemical pediculicide are increasing, thus alternative products from herbal shampoos or herbal cream are needed for head lice control. This study aimed to determine the efficacies of Thai herbal shampoos made from fruits of Averrhoa carambola L. (A. carambola), Hibiscus sabdariffa L. (H. sabdariffa) and Passiflora edulis Sims. (P. edulis) on mortality of head lice, at 1, 5 and 10 ml/plate by filter paper contact bioassay in vitro test and in vivo test, several infested children were treated with each shampoo and make a comparison between them and a chemical shampoo, carbaryl, by in vitro and in vivo tests. Every treatment was repeated three times. The in vitro results showed that the 5 and 10 ml/plate doses of P. edulis and H. sabdariffa shampoos exhibited the highest efficacy as pediculicide against nymphs with an LC <inf>50</inf> of 0.85 ml/plate and LT <inf>50</inf> between <0.1 to 0.20, and <0.1 to 0.47 min, respectively. LC <inf>50</inf> of P. edulis and H. sabdariffa shampoos against adults were 0.85 and 1.09 ml/plate, respectively, and LT <inf>50</inf> was between <0.1 to 0.83 min. From the in vivo test, P. edulis shampoo was found to be the most effective in controlling head lice with 100% cure rate after the 2nd treatment. It was more effective than carbaryl.In conclusion, P. edulis shampoo is an effective alternative as pediculicide for head lice treatment because it is safe: no side effects on the scalp of the subjects were observed. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Adulticidal effect of combinations between Cymbopogon citratus and Eucalyptus globulus essential oils against Pediculus humanus capitis De Geer(2023-07-01); Sittichok, S.The results showed that all head lice adults that were immersed in a combination of 15% C. citratus EO + 15% E. globulus EO, 20% C. citratus EO + 20% E. globulus EO, and 30% C. citratus EO + 30% E. globulus EO for 3 min were destroyed with the highest mortality rate of 100% at 30 min and an LT50 ranging from 1.2 to 1.5 min. However, 0.5% (w/w) permethrin shampoo provided a slightly higher adulticidal activity than all EO formulations in terms of LT50 (0.9 min). According to the LD50 values reported in the literature, C. citratus EO + E. globulus EO can be developed into a safer shampoo for head lice treatment.
