Item type:Publication, Trends of Hydrogen Applications in Thailand(2025-01-01); ;Hongbin, Nichit ;Tipves, KanrayaphusLothongkum, Anchaleeporn WaritswatThailand is on-going of establishing guidelines and mechanisms to tackle climate change and set a goal for carbon neutrality by 2050 to achieve net-zero GHG emissions by 2065. Thus, energy transition acceleration is of high concern. At present, hydrogen production and utilization in Thailand is limited to industrial sector only (e.g., chemical and petrochemical industries, semiconductor industry). To drive forward the use of hydrogen, the government agencies leading by the Energy Policy and Planning (EPPO), Ministry of Energy together with research institutions and business stakeholders have therefore been developing a national hydrogen strategic plan. This paper also presents a pilot project in northeast Thailand by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), Ministry of Energy to explore green hydrogen production and utilization for use towards the energy sector as green hydrogen is a versatile and clean energy carrier that offers a solution to the climate crisis. The project has been successfully operated. It is accomplished by storing wind electricity in the form of hydrogen, and then applying a wind-hydrogen hybrid system to a 300-kW fuel cell to produce electricity for EGAT’s energy learning center at the project site. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The Status and Practices of WEEE Management: A Case Study in Thailand(2024-01-01); ;Hongbin, Nichit ;Tipves, KanrayaphusLothongkum, Anchaleeporn WaritswatAdvance technology and rising in a demand of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) lead to the global crisis from an enormous amount of end-of-life EEE, so-called waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). Regarding this issue, the drafts of the WEEE Management Act and the Integrated WEEE Management Action Plan were released publicly in Thailand. The chapters of the drafted WEEE Management Act in handling WEEE, not only from industry sector but also residential sector, are shown herein. Up to date, WEEE from the industry has been managed systematically by formal sectors, i.e., waste processor factories or the facilities licensed, while WEEE from the municipality has been managed mainly by informal sectors that can lead to negative impacts on environment and human health. Due to no WEEE Management Act issued, the majority of WEEE from the municipality goes to improper handling. In this paper, WEEE of a company case study is obtained from the industry and its management comprises sorting, dismantling, crushing and analysis of finished products, and finally transportation of finished products to the overseas partner smelters. Good practices of WEEE management of this case study fully cover pre-steps of WEEE processing; WEEE processing; and safety, environment, and social responsibility. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Status and Opportunities of Biogas Power Plants in Thailand and a Case Study(2022-01-01); Lothongkum, Anchaleeporn WaritswatEnergy crisis and environmental pollution problems have drawn attention to increase renewable energy resource utilization and replace fossil fuels worldwide. For several decades, Thailand relies on fossil fuels in electricity generation and so on. The Ministry of Energy, Thailand complied the Development of Energy Plans to Thailand Integrated Energy Blueprint (TIEB) in 2020 for sustainable energy development in addition to overcome environmental problems. This case study shows energy recovery from wastes for self-sustain biogas power plants from chicken meat production. The onsite biogas power plant targets at a capacity of 1.5 MW at 24 h for every workday. The chicken manure can yield a biogas output of 128–134 m3/ton with the rate of electricity per biogas at 2.10 kWh/m3. Based on the project period for 15 years, the payback period, net present value (NPV), and internal rate of return (IRR) are 8.2 years, about 1,705,000 USD, and 8.86%, respectively. In general, the crucial success factor of biogas power plant installation mainly goes to concrete collaboration among the government and private sectors. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Solar Rooftop PV Power Generation for a Commercial Building in Thailand(2023-01-01); ;Nookwan, JirapornLothongkum, Anchaleeporn WaritswatSolar energy is significant potential for power and heat production. The Alternative Energy Development Plan 2018–2037 (AEDP2018) developing by Thailand’s Ministry of Energy demonstrates that solar energy is a key role in renewable energy utilization, especially for power generation. In general, solar photovoltaic (PV) technology is the most common type of solar power generation technology. This paper presented a potential of using grid-connected solar PV power generation system for the rooftop of a commercial building. The design and simulation of the solar rooftop PV power generation system and the economic analysis were accomplished. The installation of 1.85 MWp grid-connected solar PV power generation system on the rooftop area required 3,440 pieces of 540 Wp solar panels. By using PVsyst version 7.2, the solar panel configuration was connected in 20 pieces/string in series and 172 strings in parallel, with 80 kWac string inverters of 18 units. The simulated results of produced energy, specific production, and performance ratio were 2,678 MWh/year, 1,442 kWh/kWp/year, and 80% respectively. As a result, the energy cost saving was 269,317 USD with payback period (PB), net present value (NPV), and internal rate of return (IRR) of 6.37 years, 1,062,430 USD, and 15%, respectively. In conclusion, the installation of 1.85 MWp solar rooftop PV power generation system is technically feasible for the investment.
