Item type:Publication, High voltage and high frequency switching power supply for high frequency solid insulation testing(2000-01-01) ;Trerutpicharn, S. ;Potivejkul, S.This paper presents the design and construction of a high voltage and high frequency switching source for defective insulation testing. The attempt of developing a prototype has been made in order to replace a conventional tesla transformer method based on L-C resonance which has some limitations such as large size, heavy weight, damping signal, unstable voltage and control difficulties. With the inherent characteristics of high frequency source, defective insulator surface can be easily detected. A design technique and testing method will be fully giveN A prototype has been tested and used in a student laboratory for studying insulating material characteristics. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Evaluation of PWM strategies based on practical findings and experimental facts for VSI-fed induction motors(1998-12-01); ; Potivejkul, S.This paper is concerned with the evaluation of PWM strategies based on practical findings and experimental facts for VSI fed induction motors. The measured harmonic loss factor curve for given conditions is used for the loss prediction. The comparison of harmonic losses for various PWM schemes has been made. As a result, the better understanding of PWM characteristics influencing harmonic machine losses is achieved. This will be useful for choosing the PWM schemes and parameters suitable for applications. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Design of a low voltage cable fault detector(2000-01-01) ;Potivejkul, S. ;Kerdonfag, P. ;Jamnian, S.This paper presents a design and construction of a low voltage cable fault location detector. The principle of design is based on the reflection of waves. A pulse is sent into the defective cable and it is reflected back. The interval of travelling waves is identified in order to determine fault location and fault types. The prototype consists of pulse generator, wave detection circuit, counter circuit, control and processing part, and display unit based on a microcontroller. All are assembled in a small compact size. Also, the portable detector is suitable for outdoors. In addition, it is more safe when compared to a conventional high voltage impulse method. It has been tested and found that the error of fault location is within ±5%. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, New technique for high voltage measurement using high voltage electric field motor(1998-12-01) ;Potivejkul, S.; Kerdonfag, P.In this paper, a new technique for high voltage measurement for DC and AC systems using High Voltage Electric Field Motor (HVEFM) is proposed. The rotor speed of HVEFM is linearly proportional to the applied voltage. Therefore, the input voltage can be measured by detecting the rotor speed. The range of the measured voltage level is dependent of the pressure and types of gases in HVEFM. The structure is a significant factor affecting the accuracy of measurement, and a range of measured voltage level. The Finite element (FEM) program is used for computing the voltage level and electric field distribution at any points of HVEFM. The calculated results offer a design of the appropriate structure, so that the relationship between the motor speed and measured voltage level is linear and measurement can be applicable to higher voltage level. The advantages of this technique are light, compact, easy to install, and low cost when comparing to a conventional divider technique. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, A development design of ozone generator with a new helix coil electrode for micro bacterial disinfection in hospitals(2015-01-26) ;Potivejkul, S. ;Leejongpermpoon, S. ;Markchun, C.This article presents development of a new helix coil electrode of an ozone generator for disinfection in hospital. In development of the proposed electrode, the optimal spacing between each turn of the helix coil has been investigated. The considered spaces are 1 cm, 2 cm, and 3 cm. To confirm the performance of the proposed electrode, the capability in ozone generation has been considered in an HV laboratory by comparison of ozone concentration generated by the proposed and conventional cylindrical electrodes. The helix coil electrode as an inner electrode was made from copper wire and the cylindrical electrode with radius of 1.5 cm as outer electrode was made of stainless steel. Those two electrodes are separated by air gap with gap spacing of 1 mm and glass material with thickness of 1.4 mm. The inner electrode is connected to a high voltage source and the outer one is connected to ground. In the experiment, air flow rate was set to be 20 l/hr to 150 l/hr. The applied peak high voltage with frequency of 20 kHz used in the experimental is set to be 0 to 6 kV. The experimental result show that the condition of the spacing of 2 cm, air flow rate of 50 l/hr and peak voltage of 6 kV provides the highest ozone concentration of 840 ppm. From the experimental results, it is high possibility that the developed electrode is able to use in ozone generators for micro bacterial disinfection in hospitals. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Relative permittivity detector for cable insulators(2000-01-01) ;Kerdonfag, P. ;Potivejkul, S. ;Jamnian, S.This paper presents a new measurement technique of relative permittivity (ε<inf>r</inf>) for cable insulators. The travelling wave and reflection wave theory are applied to generate low voltage pulse signal feeding cable lines that need to know ε<inf>r</inf> of insulators. By measuring interval of travelling wave, ε<inf>r</inf> can be estimated for any types of cable lines. A prototype consists of pulse generator circuit, wave detection circuit, counter circuit and microcontroller unit for processing and display via LCD. This model is portable, compact, comfortable and capable of displaying ε<inf>r</inf> value immediately. From the test results, this model has accuracy within acceptable values. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Modified harmonic loss model in PWM fed induction machines(1998-12-01); ;Potivejkul, S.Sawetsakulanond, B.In this paper, a modified harmonic loss model in PWM fed induction machines is proposed for improving the loss prediction. This model is based on the measured harmonic loss characteristics. The method for determining model parameters is given. The core and stray load losses are taken into considerations for a proposed model. The discussion of harmonic loss mechanisms particularly due to the effect of harmonic leakage flux is given. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, The development of a prototype of polluted gas reducing instrument used for gasoline vehicle(2015-01-26) ;Potivejkul, S. ;Kitwattana, K. ;Udomdat, P.This paper presents the development of a prototype of polluted gas reducing instrument which used for a gasoline vehicle. Effect of the electric field between electrodes in the instrument to capability in polluted gas reduction has been studied. In experiments, the electric field of 0-25 kV/cm 20kHz was varied. The revolution speed of engine was set to be 700 rpm. Electrode is wire-plan with 2 layer insulated acrylic plastic and air are 3 mm both of them. It is not necessary to use another power supply from outside the vehicle, since the battery used in the vehicle is used as a power supply of the instrument. The prototype can operate very well. The results showed that using only vehicle battery can provide energy to the electrodes to generate an electric field for reducing emission gases. Actually, it can reduce carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and hydrocarbons by 36.3%, 21.6% and 9.1% respectively. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Design of ozone generator using solar energy(1998-12-01) ;Potivejkul, S.; Rattanavichien, P.This paper presents design of an ozone generator by using solar cells as energy source. 12 V dc from solar panels is transferred and converted to dc voltage -8kV with ripple frequency of 15 kHz. It was tested and compared with normally negative dc in terms of the capability of ozone production. Air is passed through electrode sets to split and recombine to form ozone by corona discharge. For electrode design, concept is based on gas ionization in highly non-uniform field [3]. Point-to-plane electrodes are selected, are tested to find out the appropriate one. The prototype system can generate ozone gas from air approximately 20 mgO<inf>3</inf>/hr.1
