Item type:Publication, Seasonal Variation of Tropical Savanna Altered Agronomic Adaptation of Stock-6-Derived Inducer Lines(2022-11-01) ;Sintanaparadee, Paepan ;Dermail, Abil ;Lübberstedt, Thomas ;Lertrat, KamolChankaew, SompongTropicalization is one of the major objectives in breeding haploid inducers to address the poor adaptation of temperate haploid inducers in doubled haploid production in tropical maize. Gaining a better understanding of weather profiles in targeted agroecology is important. This study aimed to investigate the seasonal variation of tropical savanna climate and its impact on agronomic traits and haploid induction rate (HIR) of Stock-6-derived haploid inducer lines. A total of 14 haploid inducers were evaluated across two typical growing seasons between 2020 and 2021. Weather data were collected on daily minimum and maximum temperatures, relative humidity, precipitation, and solar radiation whereas phenotypic data were recorded on plant phenology, tassel attributes, plant stature, ear components, inducer seed rate (ISR), and HIR. The effects of season, genotype, and genotype by season were significant for all traits except season factor on ISR. Seasonal variation existed where the dry season was more suitable for haploid induction and inducer maintenance, as haploid inducers revealed better agronomic performance and seed set, delayed flowering dates, and higher HIR. Since the crossover performance of haploid inducers over seasons was detected, further implications on genotype selection in each season are discussed. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Small scale method for estimation of genetic coefficients of photoperiod-insensitive rice using generalized likelihood uncertainty estimation(2023-03-01) ;Suanphrom, Nattawut; Importance of the work: Genetic coefficients are important parameters for simulations of rice yield performance in crop growth models. Most genetic coefficients (GCs) are obtained from large experiments. Objectives: To estimate the GCs of seven photoperiod-insensitive rice cultivars for four planting dates in a pot experiment. Materials & Methods: Input data (soil, weather, management, plant parameters) were collected and used to calibrate the GCs of seven rice cultivars using the GLUE estimator in the DSSAT version 4.7 package. The data were collected from four planting dates: 1) 23 Nov 2019; 2) 23 Dec 2019; 3) 23 Jan 2020; and 4) 23 Feb 2020. The data from planting dates 1, 3 and 4 were used for calibration of the GCs, whereas the data from planting date 2 were used for evaluation of the GCs. Results: Good prediction qualities of the model for most cultivars were indicated for days to anthesis and days to physiological maturity; however, there were poor prediction qualities for almost all cultivars for their biomass and grain weight. Main finding: This information should be useful for further investigations of GCs in rice. Although the results were contrary to the initial hypothesis, the method showed promise for further use in rice modeling research if the method can be improved by experimental management, the use of suitable reference plants for each cultivar and running the model for an appropriate cycle. It was possible to obtain some reliable GCs from small-scale experiments, so the experiment should be improved to obtain better results. Item type:Publication, Rate of Azolla microphylla dry matter on nitrogen use efficiency and yield of Japonica rice(2023-11-01) ;Suraphonphinit, A.; Samart, S.The responses to the application of Azolla microphylla dry matter for nitrogen use efficiency for biomass (NUE) and nitrogen use efficiency for grain yield (NUEg) were investigated in two Japonica rice varieties. NUE and NUEg reduced with higher rated of Azolla application. The highest values were recorded at the rate of 37.5 kg N ha-1, and the lowest values were recorded at 187.5 kg N ha-1. DOA1 was higher than DOA2 for NUE, but they were similar for NUEg. Grain yields increased with higher rates of Azolla application. Grain yield was the lowest at the rate of 37.5 kg N ha-1 and the highest at the rate of 187.5 kg N ha-1. Item type:Publication, Effects of urea and sunn hemp on nitrogen use efficiency and physiological traits related to Japonica rice yield(2023-05-01) ;Khemtong, J.; Somchit, P.Application of sunn hemp as a sole fertilizer could provide nitrogen use efficiency (NUE), tiller number, leaf area index (LAI), crop growth rate (CGR), biomass and grain yield higher than application of urea as a sole fertilizer. Correlation coefficients (r) among some physiological traits including LAI, CGR, NUE, NUE for grain yield (NUEg) and agronomic traits consisting of tiller number, biomass and grain yield were significantly positive resulted which ranged between 0.65 and 1.00. The results indicated that application of sunn hemp as green manure can promote growth and yield of Japonica rice and tend to be a good choice for supplying nitrogen in Japonica rice production. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Effects of chicken manure and chemical fertilizer on Growth and Yield of Japonica Rice(2022-01-01) ;Phopaijit, S. ;Suraphonphinit, A.Organic and inorganic nitrogen fertilizers are normally used in Indica rice (Oryza sativa L.) production system, but information on the effects of chicken manure on Japonica rice is limited. The effects of chicken manure and chemical fertilizers on growth and yield of Japonica rice were determined. Rice varieties were significantly different for most traits including plant height, crop growth rate (CGR), biomass, percentage of filled and unfilled grain, number of grains per spikelet and harvest index (HI), except for grain yield. Chemical fertilizer had the highest grain yield followed by chicken manure, non-treated control and chemical fertilizer together with chicken manure, respectively. The interaction effects between fertilizer treatment and rice variety were not significant for all characters. These rice varieties seemed to better respond to chemical fertilizer than chicken manure treatments. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Application of soil test kit for evaluating nitrogen fertilizer requirement of Napier Pakchong 1 grass in Thailand(2018-12-01); A soil test kit may be applicable for nitrogen management in pasture grass production. The nitrogen fertilizer requirement of Napier Pakchong 1 grass (Pennisetum purpurem ×Pennisetum amenicanum cv. Pakchong 1) was evaluated by using a soil test kit (STK). Result showed that the application of nitrogen fertilizer in the forms of urea and ammonium sulphate increased in dry mater yield of Napier Pakchong 1 grass, whereas application of cattle manure at both recommended rates and the recommended rate by STK gave the dry matter yield similar to the unfertilized control. Application of ammonium sulphate gave better than application of urea. The clay soil with moderate soil fertility and high soil moisture content, the soil test kit provided the acceptable guideline for nitrogen management in Napier Pakchong 1 grass. The application of the soil test kit for nitrogen fertilizer management of Napier Pakchong 1 grass in other soil types are noted. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Influence of seed moisture content on seed quality of Bambara groundnut (Vigna subterranean L. Verdc) were evaluated for seed quality under different seed moisture contents between 8, 10 and 12%, and the seeds were stored under ambient condition for six months. Songkhla 1 maintained high germination percentage (91.11%) and high germination index (24.43) after storage for six months, whereas TVsu 1221 showed low germination percentage (54.67%) and germination index (14.83) in two months after storage. Differences among seed moisture contents were low and seed moisture content of 12% was better than seed moisture content of 8% for germination percentage and germination index. Variations between bambara groundnut varieties and seed moisture contents were low for shoot length and seedling dry weight. These parameters seemed to be not suitable for evaluation of seed quality of bambara groundnut. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Impact of salinity stress during reproductive stage on physiological responses and yield of landrace rice genotypes(2026-12-01); ;Ruttanaprasert, Ruttanachira ;Pinta, Wanwipa ;Rodnuch, NattareepornBoonsom, MaythasSalinity significantly reduces rice yield, particularly when stress occurs during the reproductive stage. This study aimed to evaluate the physiological and yield responses of rice genotypes subjected to salinity stress during this critical growth phase. The experiment followed a 4 × 10 factorial arrangements in a randomized complete block design (RCBD), comprising ten rice genotypes and four salinity levels (control, 6, 12, and 16 dS/m). Data were collected for electrolyte leakage, relative water content (RWC), proline content, SPAD chlorophyll meter reading (SCMR), total phenolic content, grain yield, and 1,000-seed weight. Salinity stress significantly affected both physiological and yield-related traits across all genotypes. Under 16 dS/m salinity, RWC and SCMR declined from 86.13% to 65.59% and from 41.86 to 26.56, respectively, at 14 days after salt application. Electrolyte leakage increased from 8.80% to 19.11% and from 13.12% to 33.23%, while proline accumulation rose sharply from 37.41 to 268.75 µg/g fresh weight. In contrast, total phenolic content decreased slightly from 7.22 to 6.38 mg/g dry weight. Among the genotypes, Met Makham produced the highest grain yield under control conditions (31.72 g/plant). Under moderate to severe salinity, however, Hom Yai consistently achieved the highest yields (18.35 and 15.14 g/plant at 12 and 16 dS/m, respectively) and exhibited the smallest yield reduction (42.12%) relative to the control at 16 dS/m. This reduction was lower than that observed in the salt-tolerant check variety Pokkali. Hom Yai also maintained high RWC (80.75%), SCMR (35.55), and phenolic content (7.22 mg/g), together with relatively low electrolyte leakage (20.91%) and stable yield performance under saline conditions. These findings suggest that Hom Yai was a promising genetic resource for cultivation in saline-prone areas and can serve as valuable parental lines in breeding programs aimed at developing high-yielding, salt-tolerant rice varieties. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Effects of calcium sources on physiological traits related to pod and seed yield of peanut(2022-01-01) ;Inban, N. ;Somchit, P.Gypsum is an important calcium source in peanut production system as calcium is required for pod and seed filling to attain acceptable pod yield. Other sources of calcium may be used as gypsum substitutes in case they are available at low cost or free available. Calcium sources were significantly different for crop growth rate (CGR), pod growth rate (PGR), total dry matter at 65 and 92 DAP, and seed yield at harvest. Crop growth rate during planting to 65 DAP was significantly related to pod yield with R<sup>2</sup>=0.56<sup>∗∗</sup>. Pod growth rates during 65 to 92 DAP and 92 to 125 DAP were significantly related to pod yield with R<sup>2</sup>= 0.35<sup>∗∗</sup>and 0.54<sup>∗∗</sup>, and also related to seed yield with R<sup>2</sup>= 0.29<sup>∗</sup>and 0.57<sup>∗∗</sup>, respectively. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Influence of calcium from different seashells on growth and yield of Khon Kaen 6 peanut cultivar(2023-11-01) ;Hongyotee, T. ;Somchit, P.Application of all calcium sources increased biomass and crop growth rate of peanut. Significantly increasing in biomass was found in the crop threated with gypsum. The crop growth rate was significantly increased in the crop treated with gypsum, mussel and clams. Application of calcium sources was not significantly affected on yield and yield components of peanut. The possibility to used seashells as an alternative calcium source for peanut production.
