    Design 2.4/5.8 GHz microstrip-to-coplanar strip transition

    A 2.4/5.8 GHz microstrip (MS)-to-coplanar stripline (CFS) transition (industrial-scientific-medical bands) is presented in this paper. The transition can operate at two bands simultaneously with a stepped impedance transformer and stepped impedance open stub. The circuit is proven with a design on RF060 substrate. Simulated and experimental results of the transitions connected in back-to-back style are in good agreement. The back-to-back transition exhibits return and insertion losses, which are better than 15 dB and 3 dB, respectively.

    A unidirectional antenna using circular disc monopole excited circular ring above cylindrical reflector

    The objective of this paper is to propose a unidirectional antenna using circular disc monopole excited circular ring above cylindrical reflector to cover the frequency of 3.1-10.6 GHz for ultra-wideband (UWB) applications. The simulated results are presented ultra-wideband performance of this antenna by using Computer Simulation Technology (CST®). The simulated results verified that the proposed antenna radiates unidirectional pattern. Moreover, the antenna design is described in terms of return loss/impedance bandwidth and radiation pattern. The return loss of better than 10 dB covers the frequency range from 2.46 to 12.41 GHz. The proposed antenna has a unidirectional pattern with the gain of 9.98 dBi at 3 GHz, 11.56 dBi at 7 GHz and 11.59 dBi at 11 GHz from the simulated results. Moreover, the design of this antenna is simple. Therefore, proposed antenna is suitable for many applications in long and narrow path service cell. © 2008 IEEE.

    A multibeam antenna using quasi-optical antenna-mixers

    A multibeam antenna could be designed without using a complicated feeding system by using quasi-optical antenna-mixers. Accurate beam directions could be obtained when practical antenna patterns was taken into account in the design. The effectiveness of a three-beam antenna is demonstrated at K-band showing accurate beam directions which is very useful in modern wireless communications. © 2007 Elsevier GmbH. All rights reserved.

    A rectangular aperture antenna fed by planar plate monopole for UWB applications

    This paper presents the rectangular aperture antenna fed by planar plate monopole for ultra-wideband applications. Various wireless communication systems are operated at different frequencies. Thus, antenna which is capable for application in broadband is studied. The proposed antenna can be fulfilled the application requirement as mentioned above. According to its benefits, low cost and compact size are desired. In addition, the geometry antenna is easy. This proposed antenna radiates unidirectional pattern. In order to design the antenna, the parametric study is also discussed in this paper to determine the suitable parameter with desired characteristics such as impedance characteristic and radiation pattern. It is not easy for design the antenna with both desired unidirectional pattern and very wide bandwidth. From the simulation, at the frequency of UWB spectrum of 3.1 GHz, 7.0 GHz and 10.6 GHz, the gains equal to 4.33 dBi, 7.42 dBi and 5.58 dBi, respectively. The front-to-back ratios of 3.1 GHz, 7.0 GHz and 10.6 GHz equal to 3.70 dB, 17.53 dB and 29.38 dB, respectively. The measured and simulated result of return loss is lower than 10 dB at frequency of UWB communication system.

    Phased array of switched-beam elements for handset adaptive antenna

    The objective of this work is to develop a handset adaptive antenna for operation at the frequency of 5.8 GHz. This antenna must be compact and have fast convergence. A phased array of switched beam elements is introduced to speed up initialization of CMA. Using dual-feed switched-beam patch antennas, the antenna system can be compact. An array element has dimension of 15.5×15.5 mm<sup>2</sup> and the array radius of 15.5 mm. Hence, the antenna dimension is 46.5×46.5 mm<sup>2</sup> which is sufficiently small to install on a handset. ©2007 IEEE.

    Design of a spherical array self-mixing oscillator antenna

    Principle of a spherical array self-mixing oscillator antenna is discussed in this paper. Applying the injection locking technique to the spherical array which elements are made of simple waveguide radiators, the beam steering with considerably constant pattern in different directions can be achieved without using the sophisticated phase shifters. This antenna is designed and tested at the frequency of 10 GHz.

    This paper presents the path loss model and measurement of wireless network in durian garden at 5.8 GHz. This study is important in wireless communication system for predication and design the communication system of durian garden such as communication range, power transfer, position of transmitting and receiving antenna. From the results, it is obvious that the path loss at the distance of 128 m from the transmitter is less than -50 dB. © 2008 IEEE.
