    Optical spin generated by a soliton pulse in an adddrop filter for optoelectronic and spintronic use

    A new concept of an optical spin generation using bright and dark soliton conversion behaviors within a modified optical adddrop filter known as PANDA ring resonator is proposed. The orthogonal solitons can be formed within the system and detected simultaneously at the output ports. Under the resonant condition, the dark and bright soliton pair corresponding to the left-hand and right-hand rotating solitons (photons) can be generated. When a soliton is absorbed by an object, an angular momentum of either or - is imparted to the object, in which two possible spin states known as optoelectronic(soliton) spins are exhibited. Furthermore, an array of soliton spins, i.e. particles can be generated and detected by the proposed system, which can be used to form large scale spin generation. © 2011 Elsevier Ltd.     Vehicle tracking using fuzzy-based vehicle detection window with adaptive parameters

    In this paper, fuzzy-based vehicle tracking system is proposed. The proposed system consists of two main processes: vehicle detection and vehicle tracking. In the first process, the Gradient-based Adaptive Threshold Estimation (GATE) algorithm is adopted to provide the suitable threshold value for the sobel edge detection. The estimated threshold can be adapted to the changes of diverse illumination conditions throughout the day. This leads to greater vehicle detection performance compared to a fixed user's defined threshold. In the second process, this paper proposes the novel vehicle tracking algorithms namely Fuzzy-based Vehicle Analysis (FBA) in order to reduce the false estimation of the vehicle tracking caused by uneven edges of the large vehicles and vehicle changing lanes. The proposed FBA algorithm employs the average edge density and the Horizontal Moving Edge Detection (HMED) algorithm to alleviate those problems by adopting fuzzy rule-based algorithms to rectify the vehicle tracking. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed system provides the high accuracy of vehicle detection about 98.22%. In addition, it also offers the low false detection rates about 3.92%.

    Soliton spin manipulation using an optical add-drop filter

    By using the optical add-drop filter which is formed by a microring resonator.After a dark soliton pulse is fed into an input port of the add-drop filter, the orthogonal soliton pair (dark and bright solitons) can be formed within the system and detected simultaneously at the output ports. Under the resonant condition, the conversion of dark and bright solitons corresponding to the left-hand and right hand soliton orientations can be generated and seen. Whenever a soliton(photon) is absorbed by an object, an angular momentum of either +h or -h is imparted to the object, in which two possible soliton states known as soliton spins are exhibited and confirmed by the helical phase presentation. In application, the train of orthogonal solitons, that is, many solitons (photons) with slightly different wavelengths can be generated by using the modified add-drop filter, which is available for many soliton spin investigations. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

    A novel multi-optical/quantum memory and encoding system using multi-photon generation

    We propose a novel system of an optical/quantum memory generation, which can be used for multi-optical/quantum memory applications. The large bandwidth of a single pulse is generated using a soliton pulse in a Kerr-type nonlinear medium, i.e. a nonlinear waveguide. The generation of the localized temporal and spatial soliton pulses within the nano-waveguide is achieved. The free spectrum range enhancement of the generated multi-soliton signals can be formed and achieved using the nano-waveguide incorporating the Mach Zhender Interferometer (MZI). The different light path of the soliton pulses is introduced by the delayed lines of the interferometer. This improves the wavelength free spectrum range, where the different entangled photon pairs can also obtained. Furthermore, the generated photons can be filtered and stored within a system, where the storage of single or multi-photons using the proposed system can be achieved, which in turn can be used for multi-optical/quantum memory applications. © 2009 Elsevier GmbH.     Usage-based Insurance Using IoT Platform

    The premium of car insurance is normally calculated based on statistics i. e. car and driver information. Drivers who have the same age range pay equivalent premiums regardless of their driving behavior. We propose the usage-based insurance (UBI) system that takes driver behaviors into account. Locations and vehicle speed obtained from smartphones while driving are sent to the Internet of things platform for live monitoring and data storing. Stored data are later used to calculate driver behaviors i.e. annual distance and the frequency of harsh braking. The premium discount of 30% maximum will be awarded to drivers who have annual distance and the number of harsh braking less than predetermined thresholds.
