Item type:Publication, A Study and Development of Workplace Facilities and Working Environment to Increase the Work Efficiency of Persons with Disabilities: A Case Study of Major Retail and Wholesale Companies in Bangkok(2018-01-01) ;Pruettikomon, SorajThis research aims to improve the work effectiveness of people with physical disabilities in department stores, retail and wholesale companies in Bangkok. It focuses on the environment and facilities needed by people with three types of disabilities, visual impairment, hearing impairment, and wheelchair users. A mixed research method was used (questionnaires, interviews, and observations). The results were applied to a design process based on the needs of people with physical disabilities and addressed solving their work problems, increasing their work effectiveness, and bringing the results of the design to a group discussion. The group was made up of 15 experts who were supervisors, representatives of the people with each type of physical disability, instructors, and personnel from the university knowledgeable about universal design for people with disabilities. Architects and designers helped to brainstorm ideas and develop designs that led to production and product testing. Testing was conducted to compare pretest and posttest results using designed products to evaluate the work effectiveness of the people with physical disabilities using statistical analysis (paired t-tests). The results using developed products showed a higher average posttest score than pretest. This indicated a statistically higher work effectiveness (α =0.05) and supports the research hypothesis. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, CULTURAL TOURISM: FACTORS INFLUENCING THE TRANSMISSION OF CULTURAL AND CULINARY HERITAGE IN PHUKET, THAILAND(2026-01-01) ;Phrammanachot, Montita; ; ;Sompoangeon, SanehEgwutvongsa, SongwutCulinary wisdom is an essential part of a culture as it signifies the way of life, belief system, traditions, the environment, and social contexts of communities. Phuket has been recognized as a UNESCO City of Gastronomy and a primary tourism city in Thailand, with a highlight in the cultural diversity of food reflecting the way of life from birth to death. Food also plays a crucial role in local rituals as well as festivals, during which wisdom i s transmitted from generation to generation. Understanding the elements that influence local food culture and wisdom will lay the groundwork for the long-term preservation, development, and perpetuation of this precious heritage. This knowledge will enable the continuous presentation of its value to a broader audience, as well as foster a sense of pride in the unique identity of the local commu nity. Furthermore, it will aggressively promote cultural heritage conservation and the development of gastronomic tourism, which can provide sustainable economic benefits and enhance the international reputation of the city. Thus, factors influencing the transmission of cultural and culinary wisdom in Phuket were studied. In the study, data were collected from 1,200 pe ople using a simple random sample (400 local people, 400 Thai tourists, and 400 foreign tourists). The findings were evaluated using both exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Research results revealed that 5 factors have an influence on the inheritance of cultural and culinary wisdom in Phuket for Thai and foreign tourists, including 1) knowledgeable chefs representing their culture in cooking, 2) the authenticity of recipes and cooking, 3) heritage food that is subject to cultural and societal influences, 4) inheritance, and 5) the locality of ingredients. All 5 factors can be applied to promote the efficiency of gastronomy tourism for the image of Phuket's local food. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Cultivations of cross-cultural experiences via a collaborative and cooperative approach for sustainable learning from communities in Si Satchanalai, Thailand(2021-01-01); In 2018, a group of faculty members and students from King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology, Ladkrabang (KMITL), and Royal College of Art (RCA) organized workshops and field trips to Sukhothai province in Thailand to explore the livelihood along with cultural heritages, social practices, and sustainable learning by the inhabitants of communities in Si Satchanalai district. Conceptually informed by Spencer Kagan’s notion of Cooperative and Collaborative (C&C) sustainable learning approach employed by the KMITL-RCA collaborations, this research examined the 2018 workshops and excursions for their roles in 1) advancing tacit knowledge on the artistic and architectural heritages of Si Satchanalai; and 2) bridging a horizon of understanding between Thai and foreign students. In order to assess the pedagogical efficacy of the C&C approach, the upcoming evaluative discussions encompassed a series of dependent sample t-tests, utilizing several questionnaires, surveys, and personal conversations for collecting data to construct a content model in terms of comparative studies between the KMITL and RCA participants. Not only did the statistical inquiries: 1) validate the methodological applicability of the C&C edifying model but also 2) demonstrate its merits in promoting cross-cultural learning in architectural and design discipline. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Interpretation of a local museum in Thailand(2018-07-21) ;Sirivanichkul, Jirawan; ; ;Damrongsakul, WeerananThis paper considers the interpretation of a local museum in Thailand using the local museum of Thai Bueng Khok Salung as a case study. Data collection was carried out from 9 September 2015 to 22 January 2018. The collected data were derived from related documents, previous studies, in-depth interviews and observations. This present research aimed to investigate the interpretation of the case study through the management of "persons, places, and things". The findings revealed that there are two major types of interpretation at the museum: the interpretation for the people in the community (that is, indigenous curators, local visitors, and local people) and the interpretation for the people outside the community (that is, general visitors and specific-purpose visitors). The results of the study indicate an appropriate and effective interpretation system for the specific community context which encourages people-both locals and foreigners-to be aware of the value of the community. Consequently, as a result of their awareness, people would increasingly cherish their community and work in collaboration with other people for the sustainable development of the community. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Baan Fai Rim Ping: a haptic approach to the phenomenon of genius loci by a riverside residence in Thailand(2023-01-01); Standing on the west bank of the Ping river in northern Thailand, Baan Fai Rim Ping displayed a fluid profile of multiple perspective points. Such an eccentric appearance, however, belied the senses of place and historical continuity, along with the feeling of belonging provided by this waterfront residence. Apart from occupying a prime estate near a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Kamphaeng Phet province, apposite utilisations of materials, coupled with sensational spatial organisation and formal composition, were the major contributing factors to the said characteristics. Informed by a conceptual framework of genius loci, this research presented multidimensional inquiries on the haptic design of Baan Fai Rim Ping for generating a phenomenon of place through the sensory receptions of its dwellers. Containing three thematic foci, the studies firstly examined the contextual background leading to the creation of the building. Second, the investigations concentrated on how the design parameters and elements of the house were developed and implemented. Third, the aforementioned modes of problematisation lent a basis to argue that the quality of placeness was not confined exclusively to traditional or vernacular structures, but could be found in the unorthodox aesthetics of Baan Fai Rim Ping as well.
