Item type:Publication, An Optimum Technique for Renewable Power Generations Integration to Power System Using Repeated Power Flow Technique Considering Voltage Stability Limit(2016-01-01) ;Wannoi, Chaisit ;Khumdee, Anurak ;Wannoi, NarumonThis paper presents an optimum location definition and technique for a better placement location of renewable power generations in a wide area power system using repeated power flow technique considering voltage stability limit. In this study, for a better understanding, the author have implemented the newly proposed idea on Thailand's power system especially focusing on renewable generation support plan from the government policy under the current Power Development Plan (PDP 2015). The study results have compared between: 1) installation the renewable generation at the newly recommendation area and 2) installation the renewable generation facilities throughout into distribution system in the Northeastern area of Thailand. The study results focus on impaction to voltage stability when system has load demand increasing and generation capacity decreasing. This study, a Modified-Thailand's power system during peak load in 2013 was used as a system base case with generation capacity around 27,400 MW and load demand around 26,810 MW while system losses 590 MW. The results found that the newly proposed technique can define optimum location for install renewables generation in wide area to enhance system security in term of voltage stability impaction. This technique may also carry to define the installation of other equipment as FACTS devices or define generation dispatch for Automatic Generation Control system (AGC) for power system stability enhancement. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, A case study on Thailand's New Teleprotection regulation: Direct transfer trip application in distributed generation network(2017-01-01) ;Chotiwanaporn, NaradonThis research paper presents the new idea of applying the transmission line teleprotection scheme called direct transfer trip (DTT) technique to use with a closed-loop distribution network. A large-scale 163MW gas turbine power plant connected to a three-substation closed-loop distribution network was chosen to be a case study here. A newly-proposed DTT configuration, DTT logic diagram and circuit breaker trip matrix had been redesigned and presented in this paper. For the proposed DTT configuration, several remote terminal units will be installed at every substation connected to the distribution network, whereas the logic controller will be installed at the selected power plant. A huge advantage over the conventionally-installed zoning peer-to-peer protection scheme is that the proposed DTT logic controller is able to almost instantaneously compute and send out the clearing faults command, regardless of fault locations in this particular closed-loop distribution network, while the conventional one cannot in many cases. Additional benefit is that the proposed DTT teleprotection scheme completely prevent the generators from operation in island mode resulting in minimal lost and damages caused from this circumstance. The relay test tool is used to verify the proposed DTT protective capabilities and speed. The simulation and commissioning test results confirm the proper functionality of the proposed technique. The implementation to the real field has been done and presented here as well. What we have learned from this case study shall be a very good guideline for other similar circumstances. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Automatic Resonance-Frequency Tuning and Tracking Technique for a 1MHz Ultrasonic-Piezoelectric-Transducer Driving Circuit in Medical Therapeutic Applications Using dsPIC Microcontroller and PLL Techniques(2019-01-01) ;Boontaklang, SuttipongDriving ultrasonic piezoelectric transducer (UPZT) at maximum performance in real-time operations is a very challenging task due to the deterioration problem of ultrasound output causing by human-skin impedance fluctuations. This paper proposed ideas and solutions on how to maximize the UPZT driving circuit performance in or deter to solve the deterioration problem. A newly-designed feedback control block with a phase-locked-loop (PLL) technique controlled by microcontroller has been added to the conventional UPZT driving circuit to ensure the automatic resonance frequency tuning and tracking capabilities. After intensive experiments, it is clear that the proposed technique works flawlessly and much more efficient compared to the conventional one. The experimental results also confirm that the percentage of error in tuning to the desired frequency is less than ±0.2% and the speed of tuning convergence time is between 9-12 milliseconds on average. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, An evaluation of public truck terminal implementation and truck ban policy in a medium-size city of Thailand: A case study of Khon Kaen city(2018-08-14) ;Chhorn, Vuchlung; This study aims at investigation the potential impacts of a public truck terminal implementation along with truck ban policy adaptation in Khon Kaen City, Thailand. A four-step model is developed and used for examining traffic condition changes due to the terminal relocation. Three different terminal locations are set. Truck traffic of each scenario are estimated and converted to total network cost, and then compared with the base-case scenario. The most suitable truck terminal location is suggested. Item type:Publication, A Multi-Channel Feedforward ANC with FXLMS Algorithm for Aviation-Noise Suppression(2019-11-01) ;Sookpuwong, ChadapornThis paper presents a novel multi-channel feedforward Active Noise Control (ANC) system using Filter-x Lease Mean Square (FXLMS) algorithm for reducing classroom-aviation noises. Such a system will be simulated in MATLAB for a demonstrative classroom in KMITL University, Bangkok, Thailand. This circumstance becomes an interesting issue since the aforementioned classroom is located right next to one of the Asia Pacific's largest international airport namely Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport. An aviation noise problem occurs when aircrafts taking off and landing. The main idea of this research is trying to lower the level of the aviation noises which occurred in the classroom. A novel multichannel feedforward ANC system has been brought into account here. The FXLMS algorithm is used for updating the ANC controller coefficient in order to achieve the optimal weight vector resulting in minimal errors. A conceptual design of a proposed ANC and system configurations including all related equations are described. The simulation results will be presented in terms of noise attenuation capabilities and the Mean Square Error (MSE) convergence time. Simulation results presented in this paper will be used for further analysis to improve the system performance of the proposed ANC methodology before implementing in the real classroom. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Optical and electrical performance comparisons between high power LED and HMI studio lighting including the engineering economics analysis(2017-05-19) ;Prechaveerakul, JirasakA superior alternative to the conventional hydrargyrum medium-arc iodide (HMI) luminaires, high power light emitting diode (HP-LED) luminaires are increasingly being utilized in numerous modern lighting designs and applications. Specifically, this research is concerned with the comparative optical and electrical performance and engineering economic analysis of Fresnel-type HMI and HP-LED luminaires for studio lighting applications in the experiments conducted in a real studio environment. The findings revealed that, optically, the Correlated color temperature, luminous flux, luminous intensity and illuminance of the experimental HP-LED and HMI luminaires were comparable. The Color rendering index of the HP-LED was higher and its beam/spread output was more controllable. In the electrical aspect, the results showed that the HP-LED luminaire required significantly less power while producing lower %THD<inf>v</inf> and %THD<inf>i</inf> vis-à-vis the HMI counterpart. The payback period for the replacement of HP-LED luminaires was around 7 years and 7 months, which was shorter than the project life of 15 years. The commercial prospect of HP-LED luminaires is thus brighter as an excellent substitute for the conventional HMI luminaires in myriad applications, particularly in studio lighting for photography, cinematography, and broadcasting. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Performance comparisons between a single-channel feedforward anc system and a single- channel feedback anc system in a noisy-enviroment classroom(2017-10-27) ;Sookpuwong, ChadapornAdaptive or Active Noise Control System (ANC) is now widely used in many applications. The problem of interference or noise cancellation is one of the main focuses of the ANC solutions. In this paper, two classic ANC systems called a single-channel feedforward system and a single-channel feedback system will be simulated in MATLAB/Simulink environment for a demonstrative university classroom. This circumstance becomes an interesting issue since the aforementioned classroom is located right next to one of Asia Pacific's largest international airport in Bangkok City, Thailand. A very lousy-noise environment occurs when the time of airplane taking off and landing. Unfortunately, such a noisy environment happens almost every other minute on average. The main idea of this paper is trying to lower the level of the noise during those critical times in the classroom. Two simple ANC systems are brought into account here to see how they perform in resolving the problems in this particular circumstance. The least mean square (LMS) method is used for updating the weight vector in ANC control block diagram in order to achieve the optimal weight vector resulting in minimal errors. How to find bounds on the step size, how to estimate the rate of convergence and the steady-state errors of the proposed LMS method are also elaborated in this paper. The simulation results between two ANC systems will be presented in terms of noise attenuation capabilities and system performances. The discussions and the conclusions presented in this research paper will be used for further analysis to improve the selected ANC system performance before implementing in the real environment in a very near future to come. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Engineering economic analysis between high power LED and hydrargyrum medium-arc iodide luminaries in studio lighting application(2016-01-18) ;Prechaveerakul, JirasakHigh Power Light Emitting Diode (HP-LED) luminaire is a rapidly evolving technology used for studio lighting application and replacement for the traditional Hydrargyrum Medium-Arc Iodide (HMI) luminaires which have significantly grown because of reducing energy consumption and also their efforts to reduce overall cost. In this research, an engineering economic analysis was made. Results indicated that the payback period (PBP) for the replacement of HP-LED luminaires was around seven years and seven months, which was shorter than the project life of fifteen years. The net present value (NPV) from the investment was about 60,491 baht with an internal rate of return (IRR) of 9.70 % and the benefit cost ratio (B/C ratio) was 1.82. In conclusion, the study found that the HP-LED luminaire replacement for HMI luminaire was identified as economically feasible. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Analysis of winding temperature and design of distribution transformer for improving short circuit withstand capability under renewable generations mixed environment(2018-01-01) ;Suechoey, Boonlert ;Boonseng, Chongrak; Chompoo-Inwai, ChaiUnder renewable generations mixed in today's modern grid system, many of renewable generation resources tend to increase the fault level to an existing power system. Rules and regulation for power equipment and devices need to be revised and updated, of course, no exception for the distribution transformers. This article, therefore, presents the evaluation and analysis of the winding temperature on both loading and short circuit conditions of an oil-immersed distribution transformer and propose the novel transformer design method for improving short circuit withstand capability. In the study, the methodologies of measuring and estimating the winding temperature of the transformer during short circuited are presented and implemented. In the study, various winding parameters are analysed including: the winding temperature, the hottest temperature of the winding after a short circuit, the short circuit current, short circuit force and short circuit duration. The tested and analysed result are benefit for the newly proposed distribution transformer design of a 400 kVA 3 phases 50 Hz 22 kV-400/230 V, Dyn11. The new design approaches will enable designers to find a weak spot and proper selection of raw materials, such as winding size, insulation thickness and properties of the silicon steel for a better quality of distribution transformer. Moreover, the new design can offer lower winding temperature rise of transformer while loading or experiencing with short circuit conditions meaning that it can prolong transformer insulation and extend transformer lifetime. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Simulation results and conclusions presented in this paper will be used for further analysis to improve the system performance of the proposed ANC methodology before implementing in the actual classroom.
