Abstract
Multi-Band FIR filters was successfully designed by Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) has lower ripple when it is compared to Minimax Approximation. However, PSO may converge into a bad solution, which results in failed design. This paper presents the benefits of initializing PSO with a solution (coefficients) obtained by a Minimax technique. The characteristic of filter, which was designed by this technique, is greatly improved from the Minimax's solution, without chance to failure. The four band pass are designed by Minimax, PSO and our proposed methods; the result of proposed method is superior to the result of conventional method (Minimax, PSO). © 2012 IEEE.
