Abstract
To increase areal density in bit-pattern media recording, space between bit islands must be reduced. This reason causes more severe of 2D interference composed from 2 type of interference: InterTrack Interference (ITI) that occurred by the islands in adjacent tracks and Inter-Symbol Interference (ISI) occurred by 2 adjacent islands in the same track. The 2D interference can generate either constructive or destructive effect, depending on the readback waveform of the detected bit and its surrounding bits [1]. The constructive effect amplifies signal amplitude of a detected bit. On the other hand, the destructive effect reduce the amplitude. Hence, when the readback signal of the detected bit encounters the destructive interference, it could probably cause an error at the data detection process.
